After darkness, always comes the light.
The darkness is where I’ve lived, ever since they took me all those months ago. Dragging me into the shadows to play their sick and twisted games. I don’t know why they took me? They talk about an eye for an eye, but I don’t know these men. How can I be punished for a sin I know nothing about? A sin I didn’t commit.
They love to watch me suffer, they live … suffer, they live to make my life hell. I thought my life was over.
Until him.
He blazed through my darkness like a lightning bolt, shining through the void of nothingness. He was a force to be reckoned with.
They thought they’d broken me, that somehow they’d won. But they didn’t expect him. I know I never did. And now, my life will never be the same again.
**HURT TO LOVE is a romance novel written in shades of darkness and light. There are mature themes included within the story that may make some readers uncomfortable. This includes: kidnapping, captivity, violence, abuse, post-traumatic stress, bad language and some dark and disturbing scenes.
Please heed these warnings, and if you’re still intrigued to find out more about Cillian’s story, then enjoy this crazy ride.

Cillian is an unlikely hero in this dark and emotional read. He sees an injustice and risks everything to right the wrongs he witnessed. I absolutely loved everything about him. Admittedly this is the first book I’ve read by Summers, so I have no basis of him as a character from Luca or This Cruel Love. I don’t even know if he is in those books, however Luca and Jackson are in this book as secondary characters, so I’m inclined to think that he is. He brings a wonderful sense of levity and lightness to an otherwise dark and twisted read. While this is a dark romance I would say that it is dark in the things that happen to the two main characters, particularly the FMC, known for approximately half of the book as “P”. This isn’t a bully or dark romance in any capacity as to Cillian’s treatment of “P”. As for “P” I think she was a wonderfully dark and broken character. I fell in love with her and her resilience from the get go. Summers portrays the agonizing journey of dealing with traumatic events and self discovery beautifully. The ending was fantastic and I loved the epilogue! This was a heavy read but I’m so glad that I took the leap.
I was in the mood for something dark and twisted, and Hurt to Love looked like a great option. And it was, but it wasn’t as dark and twisted as I expected.
I love the characters’ dynamic. It was sweet. The protective hero, without being it too much. The heroine strong, despite everything she has been struggling with.
It’s really a nice read to forget about the world.
I want to read more of Nikki’s books in the future.
Nikki J. Summers is yet another author who became my go to authors if I’m looking for story with some dark themes in it. Her newest book “Hurt to love” was advised to me by one of my dear book friends Jasmina, when she wrote to me “Read it, you must read it”. So I didn’t think too long and signed up this second and omg how much I love it.
I don’t always like to read slow burn stories but this time it came in very natural way. And believe me when I say you can’t not love Cill’s quirky character which makes this story even more enjoyable. He has that quality of arrogant no fu*ks given person and that quality will warm you toward him in a second. He is that kind of person that you would love to be in your corner. On the other site there is “Wednesday” who may be broken but definitely wasn’t defeated, she was treated no better than a dog and my heart hurt for her for many times when I’ve learned about what she endured at the hands of her two psychotic brothers. I still wonder how she survived without breaking her spirit. It was so good to watch her whole healing process until her fierce heroine come to play.
In shortcut if you look for raw, emotional, intense, full of suspense story this is your definitely your to go to book. Nikki did here great thing with exploring both pain and recovery in every single detail that will make you read this book until you will suddenly in its ending. Definitely a must read. And I, personally, am waiting for author’s next book. You o the other hand remember to check your friends book recommendations.
Cillian and P. will break your heart and turn you inside out. Cillian is arrogant, sarcastic and has a good heart. I loved reading about him. P. is a mystery through much of the book. I’ve really enjoyed reading this story.
Cheese and rice on a cracker.
Cillian *dreamy sigh*
I feel like I’ve been in love with him for so long when in reality i only met him a less than a week ago.
He’s got that wise crack humour that i love, he’s always got a pep in his step and he’s an absolute delight to read.
Real life kept getting in the way while reading but when i had to put it down my brain was constantly going over and over wondering what their doing.
I loved the storyline and everything that went into it, it had it’s hard parts but Cillian more than makes up for that.
P was so strong, she was a fighter and i loved her for it. I can’t say much about her without giving stuff away but she was so amazing to read about.
I think I’m seriously in love with Nikki’s writing.
This book is about a want to be a good guy who talks way too much but I honestly loved his sense of humor and the fact that once he saw “Wednesday” all he wanted to do was protect her, keep her save and help her heal from the demons of her past. OMG poor Wednesday she’s been through so much, and I mean so much. This book was really emotionally read.
Hurt to Love book truly blew me away with its dark romance and slow burn, complicated relationship between main heroes. Author kept a perfect balance between dark and romantic level in the book. This story is not only dark but also very beautiful, heartbreaking, heart-warming and oh my gosh I was melting over main characters. Nikki J Summers created an amazing story which fulfilled my reader’s heart completely and hit that right spot of the dark side of my soul.
I was awaiting for Cillian’ story from the moment I’ve met him as a second character in This Cruel Love book. BTW if you haven’t read this story, I recommend to read it but it’s not necessary to understand this one.
Author wrote this story from the dual POV and I need to give her credit because she excellently managed to write it from man’s point of view.
Cillian was arrogant smartass handsome guy, with a cocky attitude but other than that he was like an angel of a man, man I would easily fall in love with. He was protective, carrying, charming in his own way and made me laugh out loud with his witted mouth.
His heroine was more of enigma in the story and I won’t tell you much about her because I want you to have the same reading experience as I had but what she went through made my heart cracked open.
She was broken, insecure, trusted no one and she put up high walls around her heart.
Her story is a mystery for bigger part of the book. We barely know anything about her. The darkness was lurking from the shadow all the time and wanted to capture her again.
Their relationship wasn’t easy, it was very slow burn romance but they felt strong attraction to each other and I couldn’t wait for their very first touch or kiss.
Their lives were full of secrets which peeked my curiosity and pushed me deeper into the story.
Addictive plot full of suspense didn’t allowed me to put this book down. Author accelerated pace of action in the second part of the book with twists and turns in the story and I was devouring every single word and telling to myself “only one more chapter” but wanting more all the time until the very end.
Hurt to Love book make you scream, make you gasp and make you cry but definitely will tug your heartstrings. Nikki J Summers wrote an amazing story mixed with darkness and light, full of pain but also with deep healing love and I get lost in the words of this book.

“Let me love you. I just want the chance to love you.”
I am so glad we got Cillian’s story! Be prepared to fall in love with this alpha hero who will do anything to save his girl from a dark and disturbing future!
The book starts with Cillian visiting Jackson and Riley and I loved being back with them. He gets to thinking that he wants what they have – a forever love.
He later visits a club for his particular wants and is taken aback when he spots a girl in the corner who can only be described as someone who doesn’t want to be there and can see the true fear in her. This doesn’t sit well with him and he sets to rescue her. With true determination, he succeeds in rescuing her, however, they must then go into hiding.
When they are safe, Killian realises how damaged Paige is, she doesn’t talk and is so closed off. He gets her the help she needs and slowly she starts to trust him and open up.
I loved Killian is in protector mode. He wanted nothing more than to make Paige feel safe, cared for and living back in the real world. He’s was kind and always thinking of her. When things started to change for him, I loved him even more. He’s a gentleman and fierce with his love and also particularly funny and had me laughing and smiling and the quirky side of his personality.
Paige, this poor girl had been taken from her family and forced into a dark life being tortured and abused. Summers writing of Paige was so real and I hurt so bad for her. She was a true warrior and fought her way out the darkness into Killian light.
This was a slow angsty burn romance that nearly tore me apart with how raw and intense it was and really put my heart through the ringer when all the action was going down, but I loved every second of it.
ARC received for an honest review – thank you
