A former cop with emotional scars that discourage him from getting involved is intrigued by a woman looking for a fresh start.
Skye Hewitt thought coming to Jesus would fix all her problems. Boy was she wrong. But He has given her the strength to make some big decisions. Like the choice to leave the East Coast where she was comfortable, and head to the Southwest and the grandparents she’s never … Southwest and the grandparents she’s never met. Maybe the change of scene will provide the solution she desperately needs.
Morgan Young came to Hope Ranch to work with horses and put his years as a police officer behind him. The influx of Hewitt grandchildren isn’t even a blip on his radar. At least until Skye shows up. Now he’s torn between seeking out and steering clear of the woman who stirs more than his curiosity.
The longer she stays, the more they’re thrown together, and both of them will have to decide if falling in love is something they’re willing to risk.

She’s out of options. He doesn’t want to get involved.
Hope for Tomorrow, as with all the stories I’ve ever read by Elizabeth Maddrey, packs a wallop.
As Skye struggles with an unknown disease and the loss of her job because of her poor health, she seeks the grandparents she had never known. She is an interesting combination of strong and unsure of herself. The anxiety she experiences causes her difficulty in making decisions. And she feared to reveal her newly-found faith in Jesus to her father.
Several hard subjects are addressed in this story. Chronic, undiagnosed illness. Estranged Family. Trust. Each is handled with tact and the answers point to faith in the Lord.
In addition to Morgan and Skye’s issues, her parents are a bit…hippyish. Naming all their children after shades of blue is only the tip of the iceberg!
Not everything is resolved in the story, by design. The books in the Hope Ranch series build on each other and yet close with satisfying conclusions so they could be read alone though they are best read as a series.

I was given a copy of this book. I was not required to give a favorable review nor was any money received for this review. All comments and opinions are my own.
I love books that I don’t have to slog through, books that make it easy to just keep reading and reading … and I finished all but the first chapter in one sitting!
And though I hadn’t read the first in the series, I didn’t feel like I missed anything. It’s definitely one of those series where the other main characters are mentioned but they each have a different love story.
I loved that though we got both Skye’s (the heroine) and Morgan’s (the hero) POVs, we didn’t have to relive any of the violence that still seared Morgan’s memory. I very much appreciate not having that stamped on my overactive imagination to live it vicariously. I loved both of their flawed but sweet personalities. I loved how fleshed out almost all of the secondary characters were.
It was interesting to have Skye’s family dynamics be such a major part of the plot. It felt very complicated and real. We all go through things in the middle of complex family relationships or other messy relationships in addition to other trials like medical diagnoses or trust issues.
I especially loved the life lessons sprinkled throughout. And the strong faith thread! I loved how Skye wrestled with how much to share Jesus with her hostile family and also how praying in her daily life was a little more complicated than usual.
I highly recommend it!
Favorite quotes:
“Wayne might have kept quiet about Morgan watching Skye sleep, but she wouldn’t. That woman saw hearts and flowers everywhere she looked. And that wasn’t something in the cards for Morgan.” (p. 12)
“’Basically your grandparents took a chance on someone who was looking for a change and willing to work hard and learn.’ … There were more strays at Hope Ranch than people who belonged there.” (p. 34)
“Plus she didn’t know where she stood with him… She had no idea. The man had a poker face that could win tournaments.” (p. 43)
“At least Morgan wasn’t lurking nearby where he’d see. Filling a tube with spit was no way to convince someone they wanted to kiss you again.” (p. 85)
“’Of course.’ … ‘I love you.’ … He [had] said he loved her. There was nothing ‘of course’ about that.” (p. 129)
“Nothing worked. Nothing was fun. It was all pointless. ‘Meaningless, meaningless.’ … He was losing it. Maybe whoever wrote Ecclesiastes had been, too. It wasn’t a comforting thought.” (p. 163)
“’Marriage is work. It’s compromise … You have to be willing to bend and to apologize when you’re wrong – even sometimes when you aren’t wrong but when you’ve gone about being right the wrong way.’” (p. 178)

Skye has never met her grandparents. Some of her siblings have recently met them. So she decides after losing her job to travel and meet them. She’s also experiencing an unknown medical issue. She meets Morgan at the ranch. He’s a former police officer turned horse enthusiast. He helps Skye’s grandparents at the ranch. I really enjoyed this book.
