This story was an interesting twist on the original tale. The characters were interesting and the storyline engaging. Red was an independent young woman who went after her dreams and did not let anything stop her. I liked her spirit and I enjoyed her connection and romance with Kit. This was a quick read but it was fun.

All Red has dreamed about is becoming a huntsman. While attending Grimm Academy, she enlist in the program. Now all she has to do is pass the exams given. She bumps into an old friend who might not be a friend at all.
A story with a current theme of women who fight against the norm. Loved how this story was not what I expected.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!!! Love it…when I agreed to read this book I did not realize it was a retelling of Red Riding Hood but what a refreshing way to see Red!! I love that she is strong independent woman who knows what she wants and goes for it. Much better than the story I was told growing up! I also did know it was an academy type story, although it didn’t resonate with a school vibe. I liked that it was more of a camp type atmosphere with all their learning outside. You get the sense that training and learning is going on in the background but it’s not the main focus. I really enjoyed learning about Kit, the handsome, rugged, training partner. Peter made a decent villain, a sour, snotty, and self-centered guy. I really enjoyed that grandma is another strong lady who’s living on her own out in the forest and thriving. Would have liked to learn more about Red’s family and how she got to this point in time and also more about Kit and how he got there, but am sure that’s another story. I really liked hearing Red Riding Hood from a different perspective!

There are those days, when I don’t feel too well, when I’m a little sick, and yet I still wanna get some reading done. Those are the perfect days to read a Laura Greenwood book. So, when I finished my first book of the day and started to feel a little hot after lunch I thought this was the perfect moment to finally read the next installment in the Grimm Academy Series, a light hearted, easy to read fairytale retelling series.
Huntsmen and hoods, a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, is exactly what I had hoped and expected it to be. The book follows the same concept as the other books in the series. A girl is attending Grimm Academy because there is a prophecy about her, a prophecy, when coming true, that can end with her dying. This time however we’re not talking about a princess following dancing classes and etiquette lessons, but we’re talking about a fierce girl who wants nothing more than to be part of the Huntsmen, something usually only meant for men.
And this little red riding hood is exactly the kind of girl to pull that off. She can take care of herself and others, she has the skills to actively fight and survive and to make a difference. And even though there are a few guys making fun of her, she’s mostly supported. Especially because she shows she really can keep up with all the others. I like how it’s made a theme that this is not the “proper girl thing”, without it being in your face. Red doesn’t constantly have to fight for her place. The moment people meet her, they are okay with her choices and therefore she paves the way for others.
This also means that her relationship, because of course there is a romantic subplot in this story, feels different than the ones in previous books. Not only are these characters a proper match verbally and personality wise, they also are matched physically. It’s in a lot of ways a really equal relationship where none of them is much stronger than the other and I liked that. I also liked how truly supportive Kit is. It made him easy to like and it made it easy to understand why Red fell for him so quickly.
I can’t wait for the next book in the series already!
This was quite a departure from the previous Grimm Academy books. Featuring a self-made heroine with an impoverished background, Red has no interest in etiquette lessons, political diplomacy, or ballrooms. Her goal is to be a Huntsman and her story travels away from the academy and into the surrounding woods and she proves her mettle and finds her place. Luck has no place in her story, it is all about planning, hard work and determination. She is a character who is very genuine and true to who she is.
The adventure in this book wraps around a sweet romance. The kind between two people who instantly hit it off and are destined to be friends, but neither are looking for romance and it kind of sneaks up on them. Compared to other books, the curse seemed almost anti-climactic. It was reminiscent of the traditional tale.
Well written and well developed characters! I loved it! I read this book in one afternoon! You will Not be able to put it down!
These books are so much fun to read. Such a quirky take on little red riding hood.

I loved reading this version of Little Red Riding Hood. The Grimm Academy world is rich and exciting and something I’m always eager to return to. Red was an interesting character, much different from the princesses and nobility in the previous books. I look forward to reading more in this series of standalone stories.

I liked this! It is a very different type of prophecy than the others in the Grimm Academy series, particularly since no princesses were involved. I have to ask – does Peter have a prophecy, too?
