Miss Kate is full of spontaneity and dreams of fashion. Put her in a room with Ackerman’s fashion plates, the makings of a new bonnet, and a strong cup of tea and she would be happy for hours. Why does she go too balls? Not to dance with the men, but to study the dresses. But what happens when the best, most brightly dressed dandy of a man in Brighton crosses her path? True love of course. But … will her sisters agree with the match?
A family of sisters full of warmth and relationships, struggles, is passed along as tenants from one owner to another. Though of distant royal blood and with many high ranking friends, they have little hope for security or marriage…until help comes from unexpected sources.

The Devil Wears Prada set in the Regency Era
Cut-throat competition in the world of fashion is as old as clothes themselves! Jen Geigle Johnson writes a delightful novel set in Brighton complete with fashion plates, new cravat styles, peacock feathers, and Prinny’s trousers. But wait, there’s more! A mystery surrounding William the Conqueror, the castle in which the main character lives, and of course, a fantastic love story. No spoilers, but let me just say–that beach scene!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The main characters were witty and intelligent. I also enjoyed hearing more about the rest of the family that I’ve read about in previous Sisters of Sussex books. This author is one I know I am guaranteed to like whatever she puts out. The ending was of course a happy ever after- I only wish it could have been another 100 pages
3.5* Although I didn’t expect to relate to Kate very much, based on her character in previous books in this series, I was delighted by the character development shown by the hero and heroine in this story. Kate and Logan both, individually and learning alongside eachother, make great strides in making choices that are for the good of all and recognizing what is really important in life. The sizzle of romance was sweet in this story, as well!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This is my favorite book in the Sisters of Sussex series so far! Kate is a fashion expert and anonymously writes a fashion column called Her Lady’s Whims and Fancies. She often writes about Lord Denison (Logan), a fashion paragon, but he is not what he appears to be either. Words fly when they first meet and first impressions are hard to overcome
Kate is a fabulous character – I love strong female characters in the regency era that have talents, interests, and passions beyond drinking tea and finding a husband. I really enjoyed the character development of Lord Denison and his discovery of meaningful pursuits in his life. I absolutely loved some of the scenes when Kate and Logan stop worrying about society and are able to get to know each other better. Lots of swoon worthy moments!
I also enjoyed the ongoing side mystery in the series about the family’s ancestors – I can absolutely sympathize with the sisters’ desire to understand where they come from.
4.5 stars for this delightful regency romance! I can’t wait to read Lucy’s story next.
I received a complimentary copy from the author but am voluntarily sharing my own opinion.
This series is fun and has some unique characters. I have always enjoyed reading a series where we get to follow characters through multiple books. While this book can be read as a standalone, it’s so much nicer to read at least The Earl’s Winning Wager before this one. When this book first started I already felt like I knew the sisters so well.
Kate Standish and Lord Dennison are both Paragons of fashion, and both are hiding their secret reason why. They have some really great interactions together.
I made the mistake of looking up the next book in the series (Suitors for the Proper Miss) and now I am having a very real problem with trying to be patient. February 9th 2021 is a long time away!
This was a really sweet and fun book by Jen Geigle Johnson. I loved the sense of fashion that both Kate and Logan had and I loved how it was the thing that first drew them together. I also loved how they helped to bring out the best in each other and how they complimented each other so well. This is a really fun series and I love reading each of the sisters love stories. I also love how each book adds a little more to our discovering how they are related to royalty. I love that little bit of mystery. I’m looking forward to reading the other books as they come out.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
I love this series. This is such a fun group of sisters. I’m so glad they’re all getting their own stories. Kate is so fun and industrious. I never would have guessed. Her meet cute with Lord Dennison did not go well. Luckily after a few tries he was able to redeem himself. This was a sweet story that tugged at my heartstrings.
