I couldn’t put this book down once I started to read it. All Heather wanted to do was get away from her husband and take a vacation. Chad, her husband, was supposed to go with her to Salzburg. But he has put work above everything else in his life. Including his wife. Heather isn’t willing to give Chad the divorce he ask for. On the way to Salzburg passengers begin to get sick and some of them die. Once the plane lands all non sick passengers are quarantined. Now Heather’s work is just beginning. There seem to be only one person who has the knowledge to make the virus that is attacking. Her husband Chad. As I stated previously, I couldn’t put this book down. I highly recommend this book to all mystery buffs. Beware though. It will make you leary of wanting to get on an airplane again.
I was given this book by Tyndale Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
Mills’ story was an intense, gripping ride. When Agent Heather Lawrence finds herself on a flight infected with a fast-acting, deadly virus, she must try to be the FBI’s eyes and ears on the inside to find the killer before he strikes again. Adding to the conflict is the painful reality that her husband Chad is a prime suspect and their marriage is on the rocks.
This book kept me up late several nights, because it is a page-turner. Although its plot holds some frightening parallels to our own pandemic experiences, I truly enjoyed it. As a good book will, it pulled me in and away from the chaos in the real world and showed me the brave fight of characters who are seeking to save both their fellow man and their marriage. Good fiction helps us find courage for our own tomorrows, and this book does just that.
Great read! Suspenseful and the characters were complicated and interesting and pulled me into the story. This is not my usual read but I will read it again and again. If DiAnn writes another like this– I’ll be racing you to the checkout to get a copy! I’m so happy that I bought this ebook! The paperback copy will not be released until I think it is September. Highly recommended read!
If I didn’t know that DiAnn Mills wrote this book before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I’d think she tore a page from the headlines. Since I do know that, I wonder if she knew how prophetic it would be.
When FBI Special Agent Heather Lawrence’s marriage to Dr. Chad Lawrence cracks, she decides to take a trip to Salzburg, Germany to regroup and to plan how she will raise the baby she carries without her husband. Mere hours into the flight – in fact, it hasn’t left US airspace yet – people on the flight begin showing signs of great distress. Nosebleeds, vomiting, breathing distress, then death seem to stalk the passengers. Heather recognizes the symptoms as being similar to something her husband has been treating as part of Doctors Without Borders. How could something like this happen on an enclosed airplane unless someone brought it aboard?
Chad Lawrence has never believed in the existence of God, and nothing his wife says has changed his mind. As he continues to volunteer overseas, and sees all of the preventable death, he becomes more entrenched in the idea that he needs to focus his life’s work on curing the incurable. That focus necessitates ridding his life of the one thing that takes his focus off his work – his wife. Yes, he still loves her but he can’t be the godly man she wants anyway, so why not free her? When he suddenly comes under scrutiny for creating the virus that has infected her plane, can he prove that he is all about saving lives, not taking them?
As the body count from the plane mounts, and the passengers are quarantined, can Heather use her skills as an FBI behavioral analyst to weed out the person or persons responsible for releasing the virus?
Airborne delves into the hysteria that arises from an unknown virus outbreak, and points the way to God as the only hope. While the book didn’t detail a pandemic like we have been living through, it gave a small taste of what has been happening by closing airports in Chicago and Houston.
Readers who love romantic suspense that hits pretty close to home will enjoy Airborne. It was a little scary how real it was! I definitely recommend
FBI Agent Heather Lawrence boards a flight for Salzburg, hoping to escape her problems. However, the one she finds onboard is more serious and deadly than she could possibly have imagined. Thus, the double meaning of the title, while airborne an airborne virus is released, causing many to fall ill. Can Heather help find the cause and the guilty party in order to stop this catastrophe before it spreads further? Many plot twists entwine in this intriguing suspense tale that grabs your attention with its realism and emotional weight. Plus, this fictional microcosm eerily mirrors our current pandemic. A powerful thriller we hope never comes to life. I received a copy from the publisher through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
Airborne, by DiAnn Mills, is an amazing modern day Christian suspense romance story. Just weeks after her husband, Chad, moves out FBI agent Heather is taking a vacation. Shortly after the plane takes off people start getting sick with an unknown illness. Chad is a top expert in developing vaccines and immediately become the prime suspect.
This is a great story, so well written it kept me reading just to see what was going to happen next. This story is full of action and has twists and turns that I never expected. This story shows that no one is exempt from investigation when good investigators are involved. One of the things that I found enjoyable was to read about Heather and Chad’s relationship and the reason behind it’s failure. There were some spots in the story that had me questioning Heather’s actions.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Tyndale House Publishers through NetGalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
A well-timed (regarding release), well-written, fast-paced tale that was so very engaging. While I had a strong idea “whodunit” by a ways into the story, I did not guess why. Well done.
Mills crafted a very believable, powerful tale with so many wonderful intricacies it never once bogged down with useless narrative or dialogue.
What especially impressed me was Chad. I can’t say why due to it being a spoiler, but you will be impressed as well.
The short–but not too short–chapters also helped with the fast pacing. The story never lacked, revealed only what needed to be revealed, and left me vey satisfied by the last page.
I purchased my paperback copy from a writer’s conference. This is a definite must read.
So I want to say as most readers know it doesn’t take an author over night to write a book but having this book release during a world wide pandemic just about did me in. I felt like I was there she could have ripped this from the headlines, it was super crazy. I like to guess who done it earlier on and write it down just to see if I was write in the end. Well in the case I was but it was totally touch and go for a while the author literally keeps you guessing what was around the next corner. I really liked this book I really like Heather and all her friends she made they each had a strength about them that just popped off the pages. Over all this was clean read book and so well worth it.
The interesting thing to me about this story is that the author wrote it before anything came out about COVID 19! This was fiction come to real life for us in 2020. An airborne virus was released inside an airplane on a flight bound for Germany. Within a couple of hours several passengers started showing signs of illness. Terrible symptoms including profuse bleeding. Heather, an FBI agent was onboard and taking a vacation away from her husband. Their marriage was in jeopardy, especially after her husband Chad was a person of interest in the development of the virus. When passengers infected began dying, others became very fearful.
This was a wild ride from beginning to end. All I could think about was our situation in a world wide pandemic that has taken thousands of lives. If you like edge of your seat, can’t put it down stories this is the book for you! I wanted to know who and why something like this was released on a plane. Even my husband read it and he is not a big reader.
This was a personal purchase and I wrote this review because I review every book I read by choice.
AIRBORNE ..DiAnn.Mills
FBI Agent Heather an oversea trip not as an adventure, a time to reflect on a husband who didn’t want her anymore. To rekindle her faith, and a course for her future. Without sleep and the stress the past few weeks, soon she was sleeping till screams awoke her. Panic was beginning on the aircraft, too many now sick. She texted ASAC Mitchell with the medical happenings, reminded her of her husband’s remark where an outbreak happened in Africa.
A story that could have take place this year. As a reader you grasp the fear, the nightmare when you are surrounded, and what of the pilots to land if they too succumb. The value of life, and ones faith is shown, and strengthen

“Hold on to a glimpse of tomorrow, no matter how thin or fragile.”
Airborne by DiAnn Mills is a chilling adventure into the world of a deadly virus unleashed on a plane full of innocent people traveling from the United States to Germany. When symptoms erupt a few hours into the transatlantic flight, chaos, confusion, and fear ensue.
FBI Agent Heather Lawrence is on that fateful flight, taking the vacation meant for her and her estranged husband, Chad. While Heather is one of the fortunate few who is seemingly immune to the virus, she is not completely free from danger. Who would do such a dastardly deed and why? Heather embarks on a journey that turns out to be a bit more thrilling than a European vacation. Quarantined in a facility on an island in Jamaica Bay near New York, Heather and the other survivors are frustrated and scared and mourning the loss of family and newfound friends from the flight. Back in Houston, Texas, Heather’s husband, Chad, is facing his own frustration as he is a prime suspect for developing the deadly virus. Is he as innocent as he claims? Will Heather and Chad follow through with their divorce since Chad refuses to share Heather’s belief in God because it does not align with his beliefs as a scientist? Will the mastermind behind the virus strike again? So many questions, and watching the answers unfold across the chapters is pure entertainment.
DiAnn Mills has the Christian Romantic Suspense genre down, no doubt about that. Airborne is a race against the clock to find an antiviral and an eventual vaccine and to find the evil person behind it all. A few suspects pop up as Heather conducts her own undercover search while in quarantine, even as Chad struggles to keep his temper under control, convince the FBI of his innocence, and restore his career. The entire story is well researched and well developed, with a strong Christian theme throughout and a specific emphasis on the effects of bullying during childhood and subsequent mental illness.
Mills expertly captures the grief and isolation and fear during quarantine and the irritation among all parties involved as the culprit continues to elude detection. The details of Heather’s quarantine are interesting yet mundane, but several exciting events catch the reader off guard and send the story into overdrive. For authors, achieving a balance between the everyday life and highly dramatic moments can be tricky, but Mills has the talent for it and for keeping the reader engaged all the way through to the last page. What a thrill ride!
Airborne is a timely novel during 2020 as our world struggles with an all-too-real viral outbreak. In Airborne, the virus may or may not be contagious, but woe to anyone who breathes it in and cannot fight it, and woe to the world if the evil mastermind is not caught in time.
I received a free copy of this book from Lone Star Book Blog Tours in exchange for my honest review.
Airborne by DiAnn Mills is definitely a timely story – one that could almost be ripped from the headlines! While there are differences from real life – this fictional virus is incredibly deadly and released as a bio-weapon – the fact that we are living through a global pandemic makes this story seem much more real.
The story is full of nail-biting suspense, as we’ve come to know and love from DiAnn Mills, but it also includes plenty of dynamic characters. Chad and Heather both go through some challenging circumstances, both together and separately, as their marriage is in trouble and it looks like Chad might have something to do with the virus. I did have my suspicions about who the killer might be, but I was definitely surprised by how it all played out! This book will keep you turning pages long into the night. Another great book by DiAnn Mills!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I’ve read from Diann that God put this book on her heart last year. Most of us know how long it takes for a book to go from concept to publication. So she could not have known what we would be experiencing today. It is so relevant to what we are experiencing today with Covid. The characters are believable and realistic. The language is clean and there is no sex. The story bogs down at times, but it is a time to educate the reader about some things. The culprit is revealed after about three fourths of the book. But it’s interesting to see how the person is found out and apprehended If you haven’t contracted Covid, this book makes you feel good that you are healthy and “dodged the bullet.”.
Airborne by DiAnn Mills is the author’s latest brilliant work of suspense. A new deadly virus mass distributed through an airplane— could anything be more frightening these days? I have long been a fan of this author and her ability to create unique suspense novels that never feel contrived or formulaic. With this novel, she once again proves her amazing storytelling ability as well as her ability to do impeccable research that is woven in so beautifully to complement the story. I highly recommend this novel to readers who love suspense and good storytelling. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
When an FBI agent is on a plane on which a deadly virus is unleashed, chaos ensues. Then her estranged doctor husband is implicated. Did he do this to get rid of her? Yikes! In this current climate, this book has creepy undertones. Mills hits the ground running. Recommended.
*My thanks to Tyndale House for a copy of this book. My review ire is my own opinion.
FBI SSA Heather Lawrence needs to figure out what is next for her life, her husband has made it very clear that he no longer wants to be married to her and does not want to have kids. She decides to take her dream trip to Germany on her own, she thought that she and her husband would be going together, but that is not going to happen. No sooner the plane takes off people start getting very sick and dying. While Heather is taking care of people she continues to pray that her baby is healthy.
Dr. Chad Lawrence is thrilled that his career is flourishing the way he planned. He is about to start a position at the CDC in 3 weeks, now if he could just get Heather to sign the divorce papers. He decided that he can not stay married and continue his career path in the direction it is going, besides they have not been on the same page with their marriage for awhile now. The love they once had is just not there, at least not on his part.
When the CDC and FAA finally figure out where to have the plane land almost the entire plane has been infected and many have died. A quarantine hospital is put together and then there is a wing at Jamaica Hospital that has been turned into a quarantine unit for those who need more intense care and surgery.
While the government is dealing with the pandemic, what to do to contain it and ultimately get rid of it, Homeland Security is working to uncover who in fact let this out & why.
This was a great story, never disappointed by Ms. Mills. Thank you for allowing me to participate.
When Airborne was written and planned, I’m sure the author nor her publisher had any idea what 2020 would bring, but it’s definitely a very interesting read in our current situation! That being said, DiAnn Mills has used her talent to put together an engaging story centered around a highly contagious virus. She draws you into the emotional angst in the first pages when the reader is introduced to the lead character – Heather Lawrence, an FBI agent who is heartbroken and estranged from her husband, Dr. Chad Lawrence, a doctor who studies infectious diseases. From there, hold on tight because she pulls the reader into a compelling story with plenty of action, intrigue and drama that takes place on an airplane, in Houston, Texas, and on an island near New York where survivors of the virus are quarantined. I received a copy of of this book from the publisher through NetGalley, but all reviews are my own thoughts.
“Airborne” by DiAnn Mills was an interesting read since we are experiencing the Covid-19 scare right now in life. I had a little hard time getting into the story at first, though. But once I got past the first few chapters, I was hooked! I really liked the main character, Heather, a lot. I was routing for her and Chase the whole way through! The ending was a little predictable, not much of a twist, but I still enjoyed it.
This wasn’t my favorite novel by DiAnn Mills, but I definitely would still recommend reading this one.
I received this book from the publisher through NetGalley for my honest opinion.
This book, during this season of COVID-19 was one intense read.
This book dealt with so much, the “conflict” that some feel between science and faith, the question of why God allows terrible things like the virus in the story (or COVID-19) to happen. The struggles of marriage and the hurt that can happen.
But this book also provides hope for our lives. The author does a great job of winding faith without being preachy into this powerful and intense book.
Definitely recommend this book to fans of DiAnn Mills or to anyone that wants a powerful suspenseful story.
