Everything was perfect. And then her fiancé disappeared… warns her she’s in danger. Then that night, Matt, her fiancé, doesn’t come home. Desperate, Amy calls the police – but when Matt fails to emerge, she’s forced to call off her wedding day.
Then another man is reported missing, by a woman called Fiona – a man meeting Matt’s description, who was about to leave his fiancée for her. He was supposed to be moving in with her – but instead, he’s vanished.
Amy refuses to believe Fiona’s lover can be her Matt – but photos prove otherwise, and it soon becomes clear that Matt has been leading a double life. As the police dig deeper, two conflicting, yet equally plausible stories emerge from two women who allegedly have never met.
The wedding day never happened. But the funeral might.

The Vow has introduced me to an author that I’ll most certainly read again.
I was captured initially by the blurb of this novel, just as you are supposed to be. However, in recent times, I’ve found that occasionally the blurb is better than the novel itself.
Absolutely not in the case here!Debbie Howells captured my attention from the very first page and produced a story that kept me guessing right until the very end.
Every action and reaction that the author describes is questioned throughout, leaving the reader happily confused as to what really happened and who could possibly be responsible.
What a wonderful way to be introduced to a new author! We’ll meet again…I have NO doubt.
I raced through this book, compelled to keep turning the pages to unravel the secrets. Kept me guessing right until the last moment. Trust NO ONE! A sinister, twisty tale you won’t want to put down.
Amy is looking forward to her upcoming wedding to Matt. Her dreams are shattered when she receives a strange call from him one night and doesn’t return home. The days pass by as she tries to figure out what could have happened to him. Did he get cold feet or is he hurt somewhere? With the police and her daughter Jess trying to dig deeper to his past, a shocking discovery is made when another woman Fiona reports her boyfriend missing. Her boyfriend also named Matt who was planning on leaving his fiancé for her. Amy can’t believe it’s the same Matt. But when the police target Amy as the prime suspect to Matt’s disappearance and has evidence against her, it’s up to Jess to prove her mother’s innocence. Unfortunately Jess has no idea that Amy has been keeping a big secret and she’s not as innocent as she portrays.
I thought this was an engaging and enjoyable book with POV’s from different characters. A lot of different scenarios from past to present were going on and I thought everyone was a suspect. There were twists I didn’t see coming and was second guessing everything. I look forward to reading more books from this author.
Thank you Netgalley and Harper 360/Avon for the opportunity to read this book.
A wedding, a missing groom, a double life, a secret from the past comes to life…what’s not to like.
This story has all the intrigue for a wonderful story. I was a little disappointed in the fact that the daughter was smarter than the investigators, but it is not the first time they get focused on a person of interest and stop looking. But all things considered it was a good story that I couldn’t put down.
I received an ARC from NetGalley for an unbiased review.
Kept my attention the entire time. Could not put it down.
A tragic accident and life long repercussions.
Someone holds a terrible grudge.
The story has twists and turns from start to finish.
Good book
I couldn’t put this book down. Easy to get invested in the characters. Good believable story.
If you like books that keep you guessing, this is for you!
Good reading. Very hard to put this book down. I highly recommend
Just as you untangle this compelling plot of love and betrayal, there’s another twist. A story of how old resentments encroach on new dreams, set against the beautiful Sussex landscape. I couldn’t put The Vow down.
I don’t read many romantic thrillers or thrillers in general but this one had my attention because of the plot. While I want to say it met my expectations but it didn’t fully.
The plot starts as a bride is making plans to marry. Writing vows. Strange events occur and the groom disappears. The event after take us back to the heroines teen years in which we see deceptions, betrayals, obsessions and revenge. What is interesting is that it’s told f I’m dual POV alternating between Amy and her daughter. Time lines change and might be a little confusing at times.
I think the best parts are from Jess since we get a sense of the character of Matt. But Amy was a tricking situation since she contradicts herself quite a bit. Her being a herbalist was definitely something unique I haven’t read before. The flaws about the book in my opinion make the parts of the book that are interesting and twisted unravel a bit. The plot is then a little unrealistic and is repeated a few times with a little variation.
All in all it is a interesting read but the last half made me laugh in thinking that there’s no way that this could happen in real life.
I want to thank Netgalley and Avon Books for the ARC.
Matt and Amy are soon to be married and have decided to write their own vows. Amy was divorced long ago and is the mother to Jess who is in her second year at university. Amy is an herbalist growing many of her own herbs, and preparing concoctions for her clients.
Amy is disappointed when Matt calls to say that he won’t be home until later as his boss has asked him to take an American client to dinner. As it gets later in the evening and Matt doesn’t come home, Amy gets nervous when he won’t respond to her texts. The next day she calls the police who start to check into his disappearance. But some things that Matt told her are turning up to be untrue. When a lovely floral arrangement is left on her front porch and she realizes that the stems have been wrapped in a bag of blood, she is hysterical and calls the police again.
This book delves into Amy’s past plus that of another character. It shows how easily some women can be led by men. Grrr! Grow up, ladies and don’t let yourselves be pushed around. The author keeps the reader guessing almost all the way through the book which makes one wonder what and whom to believe. This is certainly an unusual and compelling plot, and I applaud the author for her creativity. The only complaint I have is that I feel there was too much repetition of conversations which is not necessary as the reader has already read them. Perhaps next time those repetitions can be deleted.

“Nature perseveres…until balance is restored.” Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. Amy was leading a seemingly perfect life, or so everyone thought, until her fiance disappeared. An ever twisting tale of deceit, lies and secrets. A masterfully crafted whodunit that will keep you guessing until the end. The characters are so well written that I was invested in the story immediately. By the middle of this story I couldn’t put it down. The first person writing really made me feel like I knew Amy. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes thrillers and murder mysteries!
Descriptive writing style and the different narrators had me hooked from Page 1, and I couldn’t put it down. What happens when a fiancée goes missing just 2 weeks before your wedding and your world starts falling apart. Second-time bride Amy is excited for her upcoming wedding to Matt, until he goes missing and strange things start happening to her, She reports him missing, and a few days later, so does another woman, his Partner! They don’t know about each other…or do they? Just as you are getting comfortable with the storyline of missing Matt, and you are vested which She Said/She Said, a new twist comes into play and everyone is in trouble. Add a determined daughter and a few minor characters and the book will have you hook, line and sinker!
Enjoyed this fast paced thriller by a new author for me. I look forward to reading her again. Thanks to Ms. Howells, Avon Books UK and NetGalley for this ARC. Opinion is mine alone!
This was an entertaining book. It was told from multiple points of view, as a mysterious disappearance unfolds. It kept me guessing about what was really going on. I enjoyed this book.
This was given to me by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
2 weeks before her dream wedding to Matt, Amy realizes he has disappeared. A few days later, another woman calls the police to report Matt missing, saying she was in a relationship with him, and that he was leaving Amy for her. What unravels is twisty. When I first started reading this, I wasn’t too impressed. Amy was too naïve, Matt was a schemer, and Fiona seemed a bitter woman. But then, all the pieces started coming together. Thankfully, Amy had her teenage daughter, Jess there to look out for her. I was a bit disappointed with the police investigation. When someone goes missing, it seems to me that nowadays, the first thing they look at is social media to answer some questions, look for clues or follow up on leads. The police in this story did not do that.
Instead, Jess was on Facebook connecting dots, researching past news articles and brought all that she discovered to the police. That being said, this was good little mystery of what happened the night Matt disappeared. This book is set to release 10/15/20. Thank you NetGalley, Avon Books UK and Debbie Howells.
A new to me author and a first book is always exiting to read for me especially when I have no idea what to expect and I mostly go in blind.
I’m happy that I did choose this thriller because it was so worth it.
From the first chapter to the last, I was invested in this story and wanted to know more and especially why Max has disappeared.
So many secrets to unveil with each chapter and so many twists and turns that some were predictable and some very unexpected.
A great read for the suspense lovers.
I enjoyed this story very much, it is full of twists and turns that gave me whiplash there was so much going on. It started well, and I was drawn into this story immediately and couldn’t wait to see where it would lead me. Full of mystery, scandals, unsavoury characters it had everything that makes a psychological story a really good read.
Told from different four POV’s it goes from the present and flits back to the past to find out all the dirty secrets that Amy and Fiona have kept to themselves over the years. Amy was, I thought, a slightly naive and gullible person who was wearing rose coloured glasses when it came to her fiance Matt. Fiona was a mystery that I was dying to find out more about, and Matt was just a sheep in wolf’s clothing. Amy’s daughter Jess was the only person that talked some sense in this story and was very level headed. and likeable.
I did revel in the way the author has written this story; she took me on a journey through many a twisted road. Just when I thought I had worked out what was going on she turned the whole lot upside down and, I was back to square one, wondering what on earth was happening, It certainly kept me on my toes guessing right until the very end. For me, the only slight downside to the story was that I would have is that I felt the story lagged in the middle and was at times slightly repetitive but that being said I was mainly held captive all the way through and couldn’t wait to find out what would happen.
This is definitely a recommended read!!
