Funny and sweet. Another D’Avenant brother finds his match. Marie LeBon lives a quiet life in the French countryside doing her experiments. She wants to make a fertilizer to help crops grow and feed the nation. But her compound is unstable and mistakenly catches on fire. When the French Government hear about it they buy some from her brother and use to take out an English merchant ship owned by the D’Avenant family. Max D’Avenant is hired as a spy by the English to kidnap Marie and get the formula. While escaping from the French Government, she, her sister, and her brother were in a carriage accident, killing her sister, her brother ended up in prison, and Marie has amnesia and is an asylum. Max has to free her from the asylum and gain her trust and get her memory back. But there are traitors on both sides and Max is taking on more than he bargained for. I loved Marie. What a kind gentle woman, and when she is learning to talk again and get her memory back it was funny the things she would say. Adventure, danger, spies, brilliant scientists, heartache, amnesia, passion….oh yes, this story has it all! Shelly Thacker has done an amazing job writing Max and Marie’s story, I loved it!! From start to end, you will be so immersed in their story, you will feel like you’re right there with them.
All Marie is trying to do is make a fertilizer that will help people with their gardening but unfortunately her attempts aren’t working out. In fact, the last batch she made caught on fire and now the French and English military want to use it as a weapon of war. When an accident occurs while she, her twin brother and her sister are escaping, she ends up with amnesia and in an asylum.
When Max is advanced by the British Crown to find Marie and find out the formula, little does he know what he’s getting into! After rescuing Marie from the asylum, he convinces her that he’s her husband and even though the lies pile up, he can’t help but start having feelings for her. Passion takes over and so does danger. When the truth comes out and Marie regains her memory, the heartache is real!

Marie has developed a new fertilizing chemical that is explosive and her government has used it to blow up an English ship. Next thing she knows she’s being rescued by her “husband” who she doesn’t remember. Max D’Avenant has been sent to extract Marie and get the valuable formula from her before the French government does. Max can’t help but be attracted to Marie, she doesn’t seem to be the killer he first though she was. She’s a little leery of Max, after all she has no memory of anything. The two grow closer as they dodge the French set out to kill Max and capture Marie. A captivating story with adventure, betrayal and romance to make this a great story!
