Her Wicked Duke by Lisa Torquay is the 3rd book in the Imperious Lords Series. The book wasn’t perfect but it was brimming with emotion, mesmerizing characters and had a thoroughly captivating storyline. My one and only complaint was some of the words didn’t fit. It was like they were accidentally placed there? Or something… I am not sure. It would just sometimes throw me off when I was deep in the story and I’d stumble over it. It screwed up my momentum a couple times. Other than that though, I absolutely loved it. Second chance at love tropes aren’t usually my favourite but I really enjoyed this one. A wonderful addition to an already great series and definitely worth the read. 4 stars.
Lisa Torquay writes passionate stories with strong characters. Phillipa and the Duke have a strained past but destiny has brought them back in each other’s orbit. The Duke is determined to grasp this second chance life is giving him. He is imperious and demanding and she is fiery and likes nothing better than disobeying him. Every time they get near each other they ignite until the inevitable happens and the end up in bed. It is another delightful story in this series that will keep you turning the pages.
Book three in the Imperious Lords series. Can be read and enjoyed as stand-alone with secondary characters the same throughout the series. Sweet & steamy historical romance, novella length told in dual POV, with HEA. I really liked this book! Philippa & Titus get a second chance together after being apart for a few years. I loved Philippa’s fire and Titus’s pursuit. I would highly recommend this book and I can’t wait for the next one in the series!
After a fiery summer tryst at a house party ended in disaster, with Titus going through with the marriage arranged by his family, Philippa has avoided him as much as possible, despite the fact that he married her beloved cousin. Now four years have passed, Titus’ wife has died two years previously, and he is the lofty Duke of Brunswick. All those unresolved emotions bubble to the surface when a storm sees Philippa stranded at the duke’s country house while en route to London. Titus has kept himself mostly hidden away in the country since his wife died in childbirth and their son along with her, but that peace is shattered with the arrival of Philippa and all the emotions she brings to the surface.
When Philippa finally makes it to London, she’s shocked to meet the reclusive Titus in a ballroom. But he knows they have unfinished business between them and their connection is undeniable. Philippa feels the attraction as well but fights it, knowing it is likely too late for them to be together.
This was my first read from this author and I’m sorry to say it just didn’t work for me. The second chance trope here was fine but the lack of communication between the main characters and the near constant repetition of what happened between them in the past got rather old. I also was very annoyed with how high-handed and domineering Titus was and how Philippa pretty much just blustered a bit and then bowed to him with the promise of sex. I didn’t feel any real chemistry between Titus and Philippa beyond lust, I’m still not sure they really had anything in common and
I never could bring myself to care for either of them. My biggest issue here was trying to accustom myself to the writing style, which I just found to be clunky and very wordy. The sentence structure itself was odd and has a distinct lack of intentional quotes, as well as a lack of subjects and pronouns in many sentences. While some meanings were still clear, the wording just sounded off in many places, especially given the extremely high volume of wrong words used. Though it must be said that I did read an advanced copy so hopefully these issues were fixed since then; I’d certainly love to get my hands on this as an editor. The plot had potential though and I’ll likely give this author another try at some point.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Philippa Whitman met Titus, the Duke of Brunswick at a house party four years ago. After spending some alone time together with Titus, Philippa was devastated to learn that he still planned to marry his intended, her cousin Lydia. Since then Philippa has avoided Titus. Now that Titus is a widow, Philippa must really avoid him. Too bad while traveling to London her coach gets stranded right by Titus’ land in the middle of a rainstorm. It is plainly obvious that Titus and Philippa still have strong feelings for each other that burn hot and the short time that these two spend together makes Titus realize that he needs Philippa in his life permanently. Can these two very strong willed people who both happen to be so stubborn realize that they have been given a second chance at the life they should have had four years ago?
I really loved Philippa! She was such a proud woman. I loved how when she finally made up her mind she went after whatever she wanted. I also enjoyed Titus. It was fun watching a powerful Duke be brought to his knees by the likes of a woman! Overall this was a fun addition to this series.
Philippa and Titus had a fiery tryst at a house-party but nothing came of it as Titus learned she was cousin to his long-termed betrothed. Years later widowed Philippa is stranded at Titus country manor during a severe thunderstorm. He is now a widower himself. They each fight their feelings for one another as well as issues from their past. Philippa cannot wait to resume her trip to London and her life of safe haven from her past. Titus is determined to follow through with what may still exist between them and follows her to London.
Lisa Torquay has woven a really good, emotionally packed, character-driven story of these two souls. Each one has past guilt issues to contend with. The dialogue is right on. The goading, back and forth banter between them was combat with no winners and no losers. They satisfy one another’s carnal needs but Philippa knows they each must come to terms with the issues of their pasts in order to move on.
If you love character-driven, internal, emotionally packed reads, I recommend this one. It was great. I received an ARC from the author but it has in no way affected my honest and voluntary review.
A new to me author and a very good historical romance.
I loved how the author made the heroine a strong character that is not a damsel in distress type and their second chance at love road to happiness is not easy at all.
It’s a love story full of everything you want in a great book, from a good banter to steamy scenes and the well deserved happily ever after.
This was a second chance/reunion story. Phillippa and Titus were victims of circumstance, finding each other at the wrong time. Then they came face to face again, with all the hurt between them, it was interesting to watch them realize the truth before them. Phillippa was filled with guilt for what had happened, and I loved her spunk in trying to make the best of things. She really was a caring person and had the strength of mind to admit her feelings to herself. Titus took a bit longer to realize his own feelings but was determined once he figured it out. There were a few moments where the story felt a bit repetitive and dragged some, but it was an enjoyable novel.
I received an ARC of this story as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.
Her Wicked Duke is the third book in author Lisa Torquay’s “Imperious Lords” series. Although third in the series, it definitely works as a standalone. But I highly recommend you read the entire series! Both Titus and Philippa made an appearance in the previous book and there was definitely a mutual animosity between them. I couldn’t wait to see what actually happened between these two to cause such contempt and to see how they would reach their HEA!
Well, we finally get Titus and Philippa’s story and I am thrilled! I finished this book in one sitting and could have easily reread it! Titus the Duke of Brunswick met Philippa at a house party. Both were immediately attracted to each other and they had a tryst. But then Titus found out Philippa was his soon to be betrothed’s cousin…
From the moment these two meet again you sense the attraction and the heat between them. The sparks could start a fire! But both are hurting from their past and the possibility of reconciliation seems impossible in the beginning. Although Titas was extremely angry at Philippa for keeping him in the dark about who she was, he just can’t shake the effect she continues to have on him. Philippa was a young debutante infatuated with a handsome young man and torn apart with the knowledge that he was set to be betrothed to her beloved cousin. Her heart broke when he married her cousin and she’s yet to recover from it. I really loved this couple and was rooting for them to somehow overcome the past. I felt they truly cared about each other but circumstances kept them apart. Although a HEA at times didn’t seem possible, I trusted Ms. Torquay to help these two find their way back to each other and she didn’t disappoint me.
This was such a fabulous story of two people who fell deeply, madly in love with each other, but at the wrong time. It was wonderful to see them finally admit their feelings and overcome the past to be together. I enjoyed Ms. Torquay’s writing as always and loved getting to see the characters from the previous stories in this series. I’ve really loved this series to date and am looking forward to the next book in this series, Her Wicked Marquess that will feature Hester & Drake. I highly recommend Ms. Torquay and her books!
The fierce attraction between Philippa and Titus was what drew me into this passionate story. Philippa is a fiery termagant. Neither can forget their past relationship. It was sad that their past held them captive. Neither can forget the powerful emotions that has bound them together. It was hurtful to Philippa that Titus married her cousin and blamed her for what happened between them. I felt sad that he lost his wife and their baby in childbirth, but I felt it was unfair that he blamed Philippa. I, also, wished that Philippa didn’t feel guilt over their attraction. I kept thinking that the heart wants what the heart wants. I was glad when the weather brought them together so they had a second chance to find their true love. Lisa Torquay made these characters come alive. I felt their passion and love. I’m enjoying The Imperious Lord series and I’m anxious for Hester and Drake’s story.
I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. My comments are my honest opinion.
This was the third book in this series, and it was great!! I especially loved the witty and sarcastic dialogue between Philippa and Titus. Also, the sex scenes were steamy and sensual. Lastly, it was great to have the epilogue, to see what their future looks like.
A complicated romance filled with lust, longing, grief, suffering, anguish and pain. Two hearts that met at the wrong time and four years later by unintentional circumstances they were brought together again. They had a lot of emotional baggage to sort through. It was not easy nor comfortable. There was guilt and shame. Above it all was their undying feelings for each other. A very sexy romance filled with raw emotions and feelings. I do recommend it. I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
In this story, Philippa and Titus have a second chance at love after his wife and her cousin, Lydia dies, but will they be able to make a success of it or not?
Titus is a headstrong and determined character.
Philippa is just as determined of character and has a stubborn temperament. She knows exactly what she wants in life and what she doesn’t but doesn’t always practice this in her own favor.
We get to know both of these characters quite intimately as the story unfolds and learn that all is not what it seems on the surface.
A passionate love story that had me totally engrossed and breathing a sigh of relief at the end of the Epilogue.
Please, can I have more of this kind of book!
I read an Advance Reader Copy (ARC) and this is my voluntary and unbiased review of it.
Philippa Whitman met the Duke of Brunswick three years ago at a house party. They could not get enough of each other. But he was going to be betrothed to her second cousin. She did not see him for four years. She was stuck in an awful rainstorm and had to seek shelter. She ended up being close to the Duke’s Manson. Needless to say, she had to go there.
I loved this story. At first, she was sure he hated her. For a while, it seemed like they hated each other. It started out with a lot of arguing and trying to order her to do as he says. Not a good thing.
She got furious and fought back.
The characters were engaging and funny. The novel was well written, easy to read and it kept my attention until the end. It was interesting to watch them fight and the way their family reacted.
I would definitely recommend this book. I received this from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.

BUT COULD TWO WRONGS MAKE A RIGHT?
My review :
Will they be able to overcome their past when it is eating their soul and destroying their possible future …
This is my second read by Mrs Lisa Torquay and it was so very different from the first one and previous book in this series.
I just devoured it even though I always say I hate heroine who suffer from weak knees and bland brain when in contact with a yummy man. And here, at every turn, the heroine looses all control to her emotions when she is in close contact with the hero, yet as he suffers from the same affection, they are on equal ground.
This tale is one full of guilt, bitterness, anger. During the short time they spend together, like an escape outside their responsibilities and duties, they were like two magnets, unable to stay far from one another, drawn to the other and for once, truly happy. Then reality came crashing and torn them apart, leaving them only with anger and guilt to rely on.
For years, they avoided each other, when guilt to have betrayed her cousin ate Philippa’s soul, it was anger that dominated Titus’ thoughts.
At first, I really disliked Titus for putting all the blame on Philippa, when even if he didn’t know who she was related too, he was the one betrothed, not her. I was upset at his censures when he was as much and even more sinful than her as he was the experienced man.
But Mrs Lisa Torquay does not create one dimension characters, Titus moved all his frustration, remorse, regret and grief in one emotion to try to absolve himself from his own heartache and self reproach.
Philippa has always been more than a little attracted to Titus, she longed to see him, even from afar, so when he granted her with his attentions, she has been unable to turn her back to the one man that awakens the most incredible sensations in her inner core. Since, as enviousness and remorse for being this way destroyed her slowly; she saw her as unworthy.
So when they rekindle, each of his barbs reaches their aim, when she is still unable to resist to his touch, she hates herself even more. Thus her resolve to finally turn her back to everything they shared to rebuilt herself.
I loved she never reacted to his title, she is lust-crazy and love-crazy for the man, but never to the peer. Once she decides to stand for herself, even when their chemistry explodes, she does not bend, does not comply to his orders, she does as she wills.
Titus is even more complex, despite his words of rage, he can’t stand to see her escaping his reach, he wants her for himself and only him. Thus his hurtful words as he feels she is getting out of his grasp. He refuses to acknowledge his needs for her, as it would admit her hold on his soul, still he runs after her, unable to let her go.
This is a very moving and haunted tale, not a sweet story with kind and fair characters, as Titus and Philippa are tortured souls oscillating between shame and desire.
5 stars
I was granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.

Her Wicked Duke is a fabulous historical romance by Lisa Torquay. This is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited time for reading. Ms. Torquay has provided readers with a well-written book populated with an excellent group of characters. Philippa knew it was wrong, but she was drawn to Titus, the man her cousin was to marry. Titus is angry that Philippa never told him who her cousin was and avoided her through his short marriage and beyond. Titus and Philippa’s story is loaded with drama, humor, pounding rain and smokin’ hot sex. I enjoyed this book so much that after reading a couple of other books, I went back and read it again. It’s that good. I look forward to reading more from Lisa Torquay in the future. Her Wicked Duke is book 3 of the Imperious Lords Series but can easily be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
“Her Wicked Duke” by Lisa Torquay
A Spicy Regency Romance that will keep you guessing the answer to the question … Could two wrongs make a right? I received an ARC of this story from the author with the request for an honest review. I was so caught up in the story that even though I was very tired I pushed to finish the story. Thus the ending was a bit muddled for me. So I will go back and re-read those last few pages once again when my eyes and brain have rested just a wee bit. So be warned, do not race through this story or you too will need to go back and re-read some pages. Happy Reading ! !
