This book was everything!
If anyone could convince me to read a historical pirate romance book, it would be this author.
Set sail on the waters to search for the treasure as a pirate would back in the day. Toss in the grueling tale of Pirate Bennett Sharp and you are in for some pretty stormy seas!
Make sure to stock up on plenty of Rum as you will need it to get through some of the events in this book. Dark as the sky when sailing to the next port are some of the scenes we encounter in this book. While sipping your rum, watch out for the twist and turns you encounter.
Kudos to a great author who just showed us how talented she is by switching it up for her fans and writing this unforgettable book!!

Wow! I’ll be the first to admit the historical romance are not my thing. But…. anything Pam writes is most definitely up my alley. I devoured this book! I enjoyed the fact that it was a refreshing change of pace. I definitely didn’t predict the way the story played out. It kept me on my toes and interested the entire time. I fell in love with the characters. Their chemistry was scorching and there is nothing like some pirate pillaging…. just sayin’! Whew! Pam nailed it. I can’t wait to see what kind of wicked goodness she comes up with next!
”Love isn’t a decision. It arrives unannounced, breeds madness, and leaves a sea of ruin in it’s wake.”
I’m not saying this lightly. This is my favorite book I’ve read from Pam Godwin. Hands down. And you guys know how much I love her other books. I’ve read four of her books and they’ve all been four stars or higher (hell most of them were 5 stars). I’ve read her intense dark romance, sexy contemporary romance, and the down right weird sci-fi romance. Now she’s tackling pirates in this standalone romance, and HOLY SHIT! I already knew it to be true but Sea of Ruin just cemented just how diverse Pam Godwin is as an author.
”You feel me running, Bennett?” He rested his forehead against mine.
“No.” My chest rose hard, my voice barely a whisper. “I feel you falling.”
I’m not going to go into details other than introducing the main characters because going in blind made this book a joy to read. We are following lady pirate captain Bennett Sharp, pirate Priest Farrell, and pirate hunter Commodore Ashley Cutler. All three are on the run from someone or something, but all three will collide in this swashbuckling tale of pain, passion, lies, victories, and unsinkable love.
”Then you kissed me, and I knew…” A swallow burned in my throat. “I didn’t want to escape you.”
I knew this book was going to blow me away at the 10% mark. How did I know that? I cried. Yep, I’ve never in my life had a book make me cry so quickly, but that’s just an example of how amazing Pam’s writing is. Her writing always swallows me whole and before I know it I’m consumed and I can’t stop reading until I reach the end. I cried, laughed multiple times, blushed, winced in pain, and fell in love over and over again. I highlighted the shit out of this book. Sea of Ruin will be on my top 10 of 2020. It is so unique, and while this story is complete and wrapped up nicely, I’m begging for more books in this pirate world. I need more pirate booty…I mean action.
Read this if you enjoy:
-pirates duh
-action packed stories
-intense chemistry
-captor/captive
-enemies to lovers

It’s been a long, long time since I’ve read a historical romance and I wasn’t sure this was what I was in the mood for. But omg did this story take me by surprise and give me exactly what I wanted. Bennett Sharp was a feisty tomboy, daughter of a notorious pirate and independent as hell. Priest is a sweet talking ladies’ man who’s the pirate that won Bennett’s heart and then broke it. I loved him…hated him…loved him…he’s a sexy beast…what more can I say? Their chemistry sizzled off the pages. Lord Ashley is a serious, strategic pirate hunter who’s taking on capturing as many as he can after a successful wartime career. He’s all proper and noble born. Bennett is just the woman who can poke a hole into that regal veneer and get a rise out of him. Lots of adventure, action, twists and angst with the fighting of feelings and pushing the temptation to level one hundred. Whoa…it’s steamy. Definitely kept me entertained and flipping those pages.
Pam Godwin had me drowning in, quite literally, a sea of ruin. Between the intensely captivating scenes of pirating, love, and loyalty to the raw and gritty attraction between three unlikely individuals, I was a goner.
Raised to behave in high society, all Bennett longs for is life at sea––to be a captain of her own ship just like her infamous pirate father. She is one of the fiercest and strongest characters of Pam Godwin’s that I have read to date (and I have read A LOT of her work). She is both sexually liberated but loyal to the one that holds her heart, witty, smart, and a pirate leader second to none. Though broken from a betrayal, her attraction to Priest will never end causing her to keep distance from the libertine, protecting her heart.
Priest Farrell is a sexy pirate with no loyalties, no apparent sense of commitment, and zero shame. His addiction to Bennett goes without saying––he has hunted her for two years hoping to right a wrong and get her back in his bed. This libertine is more dynamic than meets the eye. He is possessive, caring, and a romantic, all at odds with his reputation for being a man of many women.
Unfortunate circumstances land Bennett captive by a pirate hunter and member of British Navy, Ashley Cutler. But he is not all as he seems. Though he tries to hide his desire for Bennett, they quickly draw one another in with similar dark and twisted desires that keep you on the edge of your seat with a fan and glass of water in hand! Ashley’s character spoke to me on many levels. Perhaps because of his torment choosing between love and duty, or perhaps it’s because of his struggles with his own self-acceptance.
Though they fight one another, they must fight against common enemies to survive and to ultimately win what their hearts desire.
This enemies to lovers seduction will have you weak in the knees and soft in the heart. I highly anticipated getting a hold of this book and it has quickly become a favorite. Between Godwin’s ability to build such intricate worlds and insatiable interconnected relationships, Sea of Ruin did not disappoint. I cannot applaud Pam enough for delivering a beautifully heartbreaking, emotional turmoil ridden, action-packed, adventurous, deeply romantic and lustful piece of art.
Sea of Ruin is a hot and steamy book! You’ll need a refreshing drink to cool you down while you read this.
It’s got adventure, love, and betrayal. I couldn’t put this down. The characters in the story were so easy to love. I honestly didn’t know if I’d get excited about a book on pirates, but this was absolutely addicting. PAM GODWIN IS AMAZING!
**Warning: There are some dark scenes involving rape.
OMG! OMG! OMG! First of all, I have no interest in pirates, pirate romance, what have you. When I first found out that Pam Godwin, one of my all time favorite authors, was writing a dark pirate romance I was like ugh. But since I am such a huge fan of her work, there was no way I wasn’t going to read it. Then she released King Of Libertines in the Australia anthology. And it was AMAZING! And it made me so very excited for Sea of Ruin that I could hardly wait! And I was not disappointed in the slightest! Sea of Ruin is pure gold! I absolutely devoured it. I loved it and would give it a thousand stars if I could. Thank you Pam for another amazing book.
