Rebel Academy: Crush is Book 2 of the Wickedly Charmed series by Rosemary A Johns. OMG!!! This is absolutely an award worthy read that is a superbly written thrill ride with amazing characters (Rebels Magenta, Rask, Fox Sleipnir, Prince Lysander, Midnight) to love. Rosemary puts so much in her stories (humor, romance, mystery, fabulous characters, twists/turns, etc) and they are action packed, fast paced, page turning reads from beginning to end that keep you glued to your seat and leave you wanting more. Love this story and series and am anxiously waiting Curse, Book 3. This is a must read book and series that I highly recommend. You will be thankful that you did. Received an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.

I’ve always loved Rosemary’s Rebel books. I guess I’m just a sucker for all of these amazing yet vulnerable characters that she creates. They may be vulnerable while alone and driven to face their past and current problems by themselves, but as a group they become stronger, a force to be reckoned with, and are able to seriously change the world around them. Although separated between Princes and Immortals, both groups in the Rebel Academy are considered monsters by those around them, something unnatural, out of place, or dangerous. One of the themes in this book is that even monsters deserve love. All of the main characters in this book, especially Magenta, are able to see past the surface of a person and dive deeper into them to see them for who/what they truly are. And really, are they truly monsters? It seems to me that the real monsters are the ones posing and pretending to better the world while depriving others of basic decency and keeping them locked away from the world. This second book seemed to focus a bit more on the relationships between everyone, which I loved. The backstories and history of each character were revealed bit by bit, and although some are still a mystery, it really showed us where the root of all the insecurities, guilt, or remorse began for everyone. Instead of causing everyone to turn against one another when secrets were revealed, they were brought closer together, accepting each other’s flaws, past aggressions, and accidents. I can’t wait to see even more development in the next book and see some actual steps taken to break the curse and free all of the rebels at Rebel Academy. Also, I’d really love to see Magenta have a turn at the Memory Theater. I could see that epiphanic moment really bringing the entire group even closer by seeing the reasoning of her actions in the past and feeling how she felt during that time. Keeping my fingers crossed!

What i love most about this series is that although The Rebel Academy is not a hospitable place where whipping, torture……etc is common place Magenta (FMC) Bask, Sleipnir and Fox seem to find humor in the most dire situations. Some of which i couldnt help but chuckle at. The one liners from crows Doom & Flair gave a constant stream of laughs. Prince Willoughby gets more book time in this book. You find out more about his back story and i couldnt help but feel for him but i loved how Magenta tried to integrate him with the other guys. It felt like Crush was more focused on the relationship between the characters. Which i really liked. This series just keeps getting better and better. Im loving reading it so much

ONE UNFORGETTABLE SPIN
Unparalleled! Rosemary unleashes another badass wild ride with this thrilling, heart pounding, pulse racing, adrenaline pumping, block buster, delivering such sweet torment, thrusting this combustible treat to life brilliantly. Observing the arduous trials and hard fought triumphs, noting the dramatic twists and wicked turns, testing our characters in ways they could have never envisioned. Trapped in a vicious game of daring drama, captivating intrigue, intense encounters, escalating danger, spiraling suspense and cunning escapades, unveiling revelations of sinister intents and vicious iniquity, putting our characters through their paces, fusing this baby together seamlessly. The magnetism, attraction and chemistry collides with such intensity and ardor, drawing you deeper until you feel the electricity running rampant through your veins. The characters, banter, interactions and charged atmosphere are realistic, complex and genuine with traits and qualities, add depth and diversity, blending into charismatic personalities. The scenes are abundantly descriptive with colorful details that blend and flow, creating one gruesome backdrop that’s so rich and lively it feels as though you were transported to ground zero with them. Remarkable job Rosemary, thanks for sharing this thrilling treat with us.

“…monsters deserved love too.”
You need to start at book 1 with this reverse harem, Rebel Academy, where no one comes out a winner; if they come out at all. Here, the Immortals have won the Rebel Cup. But the win comes with a price. Of course, it does. This isn’t your typical reform school.
I had already loved Magenta from book 1, because her story was heartbreaking and she rose above it. As if you needed another reason to cheer for her, her cluelessness to modernity is absolutely endearing, and it will have you laughing out loud.
Thank gawd we only have to wait until December for book 3! We finish precariously hanging on the edge of a cliff and have no way of knowing what lies ahead for this group. I think my favorite part of Crush is the connection that is growing with the Princes. I have a feeling that connection is going to play heavily in Curse, or at least, I hope it does. Nicely done!

In the second installment, the Immortals HAVE to win the Rebel Cup or else Fox will die! Through the series of “games or trials” put before the Princes and them, the Rebels will discover all of them have vulnerabilities that can tie them together and make them stronger. They all desire to belong and loved for who they are…evil or good. Magenta has the capability of loving all of them…can she set them free? Damelza is so jealous and spiteful; she wants what does not want her anymore. She will do anything to own him again…Bask! The Rebels will do everything in their power to keep him safe from her! The Immortals are commanded to perform one final task that will either kill them or make them the winners! What is it? How dangerous is it? Rosemary Johns manages to spin quite the story~ The snarky humor she puts in the books fit so deliciously with the characters she writes about. Reading these series will help you to understand just how utterly talented she is! I want to take her Rebels and keep them for myself! I received this as an ARC and am leaving a voluntary review.

After reading book 1, became an instant Johns fan and now need to read as much of hers as possible—she’s a great writer and world-builder.
Book 2 does spend a bit of time recapping some of the major events from book 1, but I recommend reading both, as book 1 was an epic experience. There is a lot to love about this series:
Completely wicked characters.
Broken-but-lovable mates.
Life-altering (or -ending) trials.
Lovable FMC, adjusting to modern life.
Dramaaa and mean girls.
Royals.
Seriously dark reform-school type academy.
Amazing world-building.
Adrenaline-rush.
4 stars.
Note:
Audiobook performance is great!

If someone would ever ask me to explain Rosemary A. Johns and the fictional world she has created, I’m not entirely sure I would be able to do so. It’s hard to describe her books, what they are, what it is to read them, how they work. Johns has such a unique writing style and such a unique way of telling a story. It’s one of those authors you will just have to experience for yourself. I’m however very happy that I got this boxset as an arc to read and review!
This second book was just as awesome as the first one and that’s something worth mentioning. Quite often the middle book has this middle book syndrome. All the introductions have been done and the finale will only happen in the last book. But with this series it feels like it’s just one huge giant story that has simply been split into three parts. We know what the goal is and what our characters are trying. We also know they have some more work to do to get there.
And that’s what happened in this second book. The characters got work done. Not so much practical work. But more emotional work, bonding work and alliances work. In this book we get to know all the characters even better than we already did in the previous one. On top of that we also get to see more of the two princes, their backgrounds and stories, their reasons for being locked in here at Rebel Academy with the rest of them.
It’s quite an achievement and talent Johns has there, if you ask me. Although it’s fully focussed on the emotions of these characters, their personal journeys and their pain and hurt, it never gets boring. It’s even quite addictive. Once I start there is simply no way I know how to stop! I already had an inkling what the cliffhanger for this book could be, but I was still kinda surprised. I can’t wait to pick up the last book in this trilogy and read the ending!

Crush is the second book in the Wickedly Charmed series. I recommend reading the first book, Cursed, first. Magenta’s stories continues and this time her boys and her need to win the Rebel cup or Fox will die. They also need to break Magenta’s curse wich will also free the boys from the Rebel Academy. But for this they will need to have one of the Prince as an ally.
Really loved this book and can’t wait for the third and final book in the trilogy. I have received an arc of this book from the author.
