I devoured this book! Once I started I couldn’t stop, I was consumed. So far, Wild Highway is my favorite book in the Runaway series! This book brought so many emotions—it had me feeling everything. I cried both sad and happy tears and was overcome with so much happiness. Gemma and Easton captured my heart—I loved them so much.
Gemma has not had it easy. From a young age her childhood was anything but perfect. Gemma became a runaway and found safety at a junkyard with 5 other runaways who she formed a friendship with and who became her family. At the age of 18 she leaves California with Londyn and Katherine and they make their way to Montana. Once there she starts working at the Greer Ranch and finds some peace. Wanting better for her life, Gemma jumps at an opportunity that’ll change her life. She ends up leaving Montana, but not without regret.
Now, eleven years later, Gemma has sold her cosmetics company and in need of figuring out what’s next for her and what she wants out of life. She embarks on a road trip, one in which leads her back to Montana and to finally apologize to Katherine. It also turns out that Gemma left someone else behind and he’s not happy to see her back.
Easton Greer never thought that he’d ever see Gemma again. He thought what they both shared that night all those years ago was not just one-sided. Though he was wrong since the next day she left without saying goodbye. Now she’s back and Easton pleased to see her he also isn’t kind to her, but deep down those same feelings he had for her are resurfacing and at the forefront. And in order to protect himself from more heartache he won’t admit what he feels to Gemma and save himself from yet more pain when she ultimately leaves again.
Gemma and Easton consumed me. There’s no doubt that these two are perfect for each other. Seeing Easton care so much and showing Gemma that she belongs and that the ranch and being by his side is the place for her to call home was so heartwarming. And watching Gemma finally realize that she belongs and feels wanted and loved had me shedding tears. Gemma and Easton were exactly what the other needed and watching them become friends and eventually become something more left my heart at full capacity. I loved their journey and loved their love so much more.
Wild Highway is a second chance, enemies to lovers romance jam packed with feels. I fell so hard for this story and these characters. With each book in this series that Devney writes it just gets better. She has you immensely invested in each new character that you can’t help but need their story and go along on their journey. The Runaway series is easily becoming one of my favorites and I can’t wait for what’s next.
Gemma is a force to be reckon with.-Lana~White Hot Reads
Even though Gemma has made something of herself, the once broken abandoned teenager still craves the one thing she never had. A home.
Easton never thought he would see Gemma again and when she shows up at his Montana resort to make amends with Katherine, old feeling come to the surface. These two are like fire and ice but oh so explosive when together. Once Gemma opens up, Easton can’t resist.
This was such a quick read, I really was sad when it was over. It was so good! And what I loved the most about it, they talked about their problems.
Easton wasn’t happy when Gemma arrived at the ranch and he shows it. But instead of stretching the book into oblivion with unnecessary drama they talked.
Wild Highway is what I like to call a feel good romance. It’s about finding your home, yourself and second chances and once again a 5 star read for me.
One thing I like to point out is that I‘m absolutely going to travel to Montana one of these days because Devney describes it so well. Feels like the perfect place to me.
Gemma Lane is changing her life. She has worked tirelessly for years to build a cosmetics empire and investment profile, but she still could not escape the pain and insecurities from her tragic youth. She and her friend, Londyn were part of a group of six runaways that lived in a junkyard and all had gone their separate ways except her and Londyn since they landed in Boston together. But now Londyn’s life has changed for the better with new love and a new home, and it is kicking up Gemma’s need to take a deeper look at her own empty existence. Gemma’s fun and adventurous spirit has been stifled by work and commitments. So she takes off to visit Londyn, but then is encouraged to head out on her own towards California to deliver a car to another one of their friends. But as she begins to experience new freedom. she finds herself feeling the need for a much overdue detour.
Years ago Gemma and Londyn left another friend in Montana and it is time for amends to be made. But that also comes with the complication of running into the son of the ranch owners who Gemma also ran away from.
While the Greers and even her friend, Katherine welcome her back, one man is not so thrilled. Easton Greer is broody, angry, sarcastic, and frustrated. He is under a lot of pressure and tension at the ranch, and now the unforgettable girl from his past is back. He will do his best to be indifferent. He does not want to fall into her trap again where he might get invested and she takes off again.
But these two still have chemistry. They fight each other in an attempt to fight their feelings. They challenge and push each other. Before she knows it, she is conned into staying longer. But as they begin to just enjoy secret moments, open up, and be real, things are bound to get messy. Gemma is the girl so used to just existing, that she gets scared when she feels and goes into self-preservation mode. And she is the type to push people away or run to avoid the hard stuff. She still has abandonment and trust issues and feels not worthy. Vulnerability is hard for her. She never has felt safe, secure, and loved in a home.
But she won’t ask to stay, and he won’t beg her not to leave. They are both stubborn and sometimes cannot see what is right in front of them.
This is a sweet, sexy, heartfelt second-chance story about a lost girl searching for herself, acceptance, unconditional love, and a place that truly feels like home. I really liked Gemma’s smart and snappy personality that hid a hurt, vulnerable girl underneath. Easton could be a grump and was easily frustrated, but he often just wanted to do right by everyone and it was hard to make everyone happy. But he was a charismatic, sexy, and swoon-worthy hero when it was all said and done.
I loved the Montana ranch setting and the Greer family. I enjoyed getting updates on Londyn and Brooks from Runaway Road. This also introduces her friend, Kat’s story with his brother, Cash. Their story will continue in Quarter Miles and I am looking forward to more with them.
Sweet, emotional, heartfelt, redemption, reinvention; what more could you ask for!?
This book was incredible; the series so far is incredible! Gemma is a teenage runaway, who makes something of herself; she is wildly successful! But she’s having a midlife crisis, trying to find herself and figure out where she belongs. She decides on a whim to take a road trip to get away, clear her mind and revisit some ghosts from her past. Along the way, she detours to an unexpected destination; a ranch in Montana, to reconnect with a friend, whom she left years before. But revisiting the Montana ranch also entails revisiting a very sexy and broody cowboy! Queue Easton Greer!
Easton runs the show on the ranch and has been hung up on Gemma for years. When she unexpectedly makes an appearance on the ranch after 11 years, he’s downright angry and makes sure she knows it. But their chemistry is undeniable, they understand and support each other like no one else could or would. Gemma and Easton are such a team, their path back to each other was so heartfelt; ALL THE FEELS!
But even more than the love story, what got me the most was Gemma. This woman came from a horrific childhood, she’s was a teenage runaway, she takes risks to make something of herself. Her risks payoff, she is crazy successful but recognizes she isn’t whole, so she sells her company, she tries to find herself and she ultimately finds her home and her family. Her story of redemption and really reinventing herself, was so freaking great and I felt every single emotion she was feeling.
Devney Perry doesn’t just put words on a page and hit publish; her books are full of heartfelt stories that captivate your every emotion and never let go. I CAN’T GET ENOUGH!
Wild Highway: Runaway Series 2 by Devney Perry is everything I needed and wanted, but oh so much more.
Perry has a true gift and ability to lead her readers on a journey with her characters.
She lets you see the world from their eyes, and feel their emotions. No matter how raw or how real.
Gemma is one of my favorite female leads. She is the definition of survivor. And I love that Perry allows her female characters to have strength and vulnerability. Truly a survivor.
And have mercy, Easton is one male character you’ll be swooning over.
Although he’s slightly hardheaded, he has the heart and the spirit to understand the depth of a woman who is worth everything.
I absolutely love this series, and can’t wait for more!
Absolutely beautiful and haunting and phenomenal all in one
5 Stars
“On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair.” Yeah, I know it’s the opening line in the Eagles hit, Hotel California. Still, it reminds me of Gemma Lane’s trip that started when she sold her business and the rest of her belongings and traveled to West Virginia to see her best friend, Londyn. Londyn convinced Gemma to take the Cadillac to its finial destination Temecula, Califonia. Gemma starts her journey heading for Colorado when all these memories flood her mind, and she wonders how Katherine is making out in Montana, where she left her 11 years ago. Knowing she owes Katherine an apology and explanation on why she left the way she did, she decides that a detour is necessary and sets out for Montana and the Greer Family Lodge. It turns out that Gemma owed more than one person an explanation of why and where she went. Easton Greer is working his family’s ranch and lodge when he opens the door to the lodge and runs into Gemma. I wonder if Katherine is going to deliver the Cadillac to California?
While the suspense and mystery are missing from this story it still has all the feels hence the four-star vs five stars on the review. I enjoy the small-town feel of this story.
I am loving this series!!
The stories are fun, entertaining and sexy. I am a sucker for a road trip romance. I love that the stories kind of play off each other and each of the next books are set up at the end of the book before.
These books can be read as stand-alones but I wouldn’t recommend it. I think to truly appreciate these stories and the characters you need to start from the beginning and work through each story in order.
Wild Highway is the second book in this series. I did enjoy this book but it’s not my favorite so far. This is an enemies to lovers story, which generally aren’t my favorite to read. But because Devney wrote this book, I knew I had to read it.
I loved Gemma and all the secondary characters we met but I have to say Easton isn’t my favorite Hero of Devney’s. Normally I love when the Hero and heroine bicker and banter back and forth but in this story it didn’t work for me. It turned me off from Easton…at least for the first half of the book. By the end my heart softened for him but I didn’t fall in love with him like I was hoping to.
Like I said this book is a fun and entertaining read and a fairly quick read. This is the perfect book for a lazy Sunday afternoon. Not a lot of drama but enough to keep things interesting. Also the backstory of Gemma will tear at your heart. Mine broke for her when I learned about her past.
I thought the flow and pace of this story was great and loved how things moved right along. This story is told in Dual POV.
If you are a fan of Devney Perry‘s books you need to read this book and this series. Definitely one to add to your TBR list and 1-click once it’s released!!!
What was supposed to be a road trip turns into something more when Gemma finds herself making a detour on her way to California. Never mind the fact that this pit stop landed Gemma back into a place that played an important part in her past. Montana still held all of the glory that it promised all those years ago in Gemma’s youth.
As that restored Cadillac found its way to the ranch that Gemma walked into all those years ago, a flood of emotion found its way into Gemma’s heart. With a determination to make amends with Katherine after walking out of her life, Gemma knows that it is only a matter of time before she runs into the cowboy that stole her heart. Easton Greer was the one man that stole Gemma’s heart, and he is determined to never let her capture it again.
The rise to the top wasn’t easy. Gemma Lee created a multi-million-dollar cosmetic empire, invested in the growth of other businesses, and still couldn’t find the happiness that her soul sought. Now that Gemma has walked away from it all, she is searching for that one thing that makes her heart complete. Easton knows that Gemma is back in town and he is determined to push her to the brink with his taunting. All those years may have given these two a reprieve, but Easton reminds Gemma she is a ‘runner’ at every turn. Will the past find itself on repeat once again? With the open highway calling, Gemma will have to turn in the right direction to find the happiness she so desperately desires.
Wild Highway is the latest release by Devney Perry in the Runaway Series. While it is not required to understand this story, I highly recommend reading Londyn’s story prior to starting this novel. Gemma’s story has been my favorite by far. I love the brazenness to her personality and the fight within her heart to heal all those fractures. Life on the ranch holds more than horse stalls, spa days and a hard day’s work. That blue Montana sky holds the promise of a future that is deeper than the open road.
I really loved this story!!!
I know it’s a brand new series, but it’s giving me all of the nostalgic feels of when I read The Boxcar Children as a kid. Each book just gets better and better as we get to know these new cast of characters on a deeper level as the series progresses.
Gemma Lane has long since left behind her junkyard days, but the emotional scars of that past remain. She made some wonderful friends as she sheltered there, but when an opportunity for more came along, she seized it. Gemma climbed the success ladder and should be ecstatic where her journey in life has lead her. She has everything she should have ever wanted, except she doesn’t. What she truly wants is a Home of her very own. A place filled with laughter, and love that is shared with the people who matter most. Gemma makes the decision to walk away from her new world, in search of reconnecting with an old friend and unburdening herself of an old demon. What she finds is so much more than she bargained for when she arrives back at the Greer Ranch.
Easton Greer does not intend to make her stay a pleasant one at first, and things get off to a sizzling start. I love a good love/hate dynamic and these two gave me plenty to enjoy!
[“I see you two still hate each other.” It had never been hatred. More like two kids who hadn’t realized that hate was foreplay.]
This was an emotional read because each of the characters come from shady pasts and carry some pain with them, but there is so much to smile about in this story as well. There was great banter and terrific anticipatory build-up!! My heart was ALL a flutter over the gruff Easton.
Gemma was another great heroine with a backbone and so those types always seal the deal for me. Love a woman who will stand up for herself and is not afraid to tackle a gruff man head on. These two could Tango!
I can’t wait to see what happens next with our girl Katherine as we wait for book 3 coming soon.
Another wonderful read!! Highly recommend.
Devney Perry’s Runaway Series is such a breath of fresh air! I love the idea of six young runaways who lived in a junkyard scatter once they get older, but reconnect little by little through a cherry red Cadillac.
In Wild Highway, Gemma left West Virginia with the Cadillac with the intention of driving to Montana to try to fix her friendship with Kat, one of the runaways. Gemma had left there 11 years earlier in the early morning without saying goodbye, either to Kat or Easton. When she returns, she must work to fix the pain that she caused, while also trying to find herself. Easton is now running the Greer Ranch, albeit with his father and grandfather getting in his way. And when Gemma returns, things only become more difficult. The chemistry is still there between them, though. But Easton is concerned that Gemma is going to run again, while Gemma is worried about feeling.
I absolutely loved Wild Highway!! The characters had such depth, and made me cry (and I absolutely love a book that gives me those kind of feels!). This is definitely a reread for me!
Wild Highway by Devney Perry was most certainly an enjoyably wild ride. Perry does it again, bringing another amazingly thrilling romance. This book is about Gemma, a woman who garnered millions from an empire she built, but she is putting that all behind. She yearning for something, and it appears she’s found it in a man named Easton Greer. Easton doesn’t back down from a challenge, instead he takes them head on, something Gemma seems to brush off until the overwhelming decision to prove him wrong be staying pops up. The novel was a wonderful read, and between the fun character dynamics, setting, great writing and plot, I’m just not sure which part was my favorite. I highly recommend this book.
Once again Devney has written a story that gripped my heart from the very first page and had me going through a wide range of emotions until the very last word. I smiled, I laughed, I swooned and I cried, boy did I cry… not delicate sniffles, I cried rip your heart out, can’t even see the screen anymore sobs! And I couldn’t love this story any more.
Gemma is without a doubt, one of my favourite Devney Perry heroines, having left behind an unfit mother, and a life she didn’t deserve, Gemma found safety and family in the form of friendship with 5 other runaways at the junkyard.
At the age of 18 she, Londyn and Katherine left for Montana, finding the Greer Ranch. Londyn was the first to leave, then Gemma, but her biggest regret was always leaving without Katherine.
11 years later, on her way to drop the Cadillac to Karson in California, Gemma decides it’s time to right the wrong and visit Katherine to apologise. Katherine is happy to see her and easily accepts her apology, but it turns out there was someone else Gemma left behind and he’s not so happy to see her.
Easton Greer never thought he’d see Gemma again, and isn’t best please when she ends up right in front of him. Sure she isn’t staying long, he sets about making her want to leave as quickly as possible, but feelings begin to develop again and this time Easton doesn’t want her to go, but won’t beg her to stay.
Gemma is so strong, she has surpassed the aspirations she had for herself, becoming a workaholic with more successful businesses and ventures than you can imagine, she has never felt she belonged and no one has ever asked her to stay. Work kept her busy for a while, but she’s lost until she finds the Greer Ranch and the family who own it.
Easton is a gruff, grumpy, alpha who has wanted Gemma since they first met, but he’ll never admit that to her, he also won’t admit he wants her to stay, she hasn’t had a lot of choice in her life and he won’t take it away from her again, but when Gemma needs a nudge in the right direction, he can certainly help with that.
I loved this story, I read it in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down. It has absolutely everything I love about Devney’s writing and much, much more, however with the ending, I’m cursing her because book 3 is way too far away! hahaha
Another 5 star hit, and a story I know will only evoke more and more feelings each and every time I read it, which I will definitely be doing again soon.
I knew going in that reading a series about a group of runaways who were now in adulthood, emotions would be high. I felt it while reading the first book, Runaway Road, but I had tears reading this second book, Wild Highway. Book 2 is the emotional story of Gemma Lane and her learning to find her place in the world. She had made something of herself, she built an empire and is worth billions. But something was missing and she was going out to find it. After taking over the task of dropping off the Cadillac to one of the other runaways in California, she detours to Montana to right a wrong that had been plaguing her for years. What greets her was more than she bargained for. And this came in the guise of Easton Greer, the first man she had ever truly desired.
Gemma was given the forgiveness from Katherine easily, but Easton was not happy about her being back. He was an actual jerk in the beginning, but he definitely softened when he started to see the Gemma behind the walls she had built around herself. The chemistry between these two were off the charts and you saw the intense connection, but her time was supposed to be temporary. It became harder and harder to see herself leaving until she felt like she had no choice but to go. But of course that did not last too long.
I really felt like Wild Highway was much more of an emotional read for me. Gemma’s story was heartbreaking and even though she seemed to have reached the top, the safety and security of a place, a home, was missing. I loved how Easton and the whole Greer family, along with Katherine gave her that place.
This was another 5 star read by one of my favorite authors and I highly recommend it. As much as I am looking forward to Katherine’s story next, it is the elusive Karson that I am really curious about.
This is the second book in this series, and my new Devney Perry favorite.
Gemma has left her life of boardrooms and decision making in order to find where she belongs. Gemma jumps into the Cadillac and decides her firat stop is in Montana to heal an old friendship.
Easton is a brooding cowboy who cannot forget the one night he spent with Gemma 11 years ago. Let’s just say he is not welcoming to her being there.
In this book there is so much depth to Gemma. Devney Perry takes you through all of her emotions and makes you feel them right along with her. There are sweet times, sassy times, sad times, and swooning times. Easton and Gemma are hot hot hot!!! I also really really enjoyed all of the side characters and the Greer family, as well as the Montana beauty.
I recommend this book to everyone. Once I was done reading I was talking my husband into a trip to Montana. I cannot wait for book 3 in this series to come out!
