An unplanned promotion to princess!Carina was just trying to advance to manager at her accounting firm. Instead, she uncovered the dirty secrets of a giant bank, got framed for murder, and fled the country. Now she’s hiding out in a van with a stray dog in the kingdom of Alaska… illegally on royal land).
Before she knows it, she’s whisked off to a palace on the arm of a dragon shifter (!) prince and fitted for a crown…because she’s been chosen by an ancient magic spell to be the mate of the next king of Alaska.
As the youngest (and arguably most unsuitable) prince, Toren never thought that he would be tapped to rule, but he knows that Carina is worth the weight of his new duties. Now he’s just got to figure out how to be a king, and even more importantly, how to protect his queen-to-be from old enemies…and new foes who will stop at nothing to see Alaska fall.
From the creator of the addictive and off-beat Shifting Sands Resort series comes a fresh new world of secret shifters and hidden magic. Set in an alternate world Alaska, where being a princess is more hiking boots and field hockey than it is tiaras and balls, THE DRAGON PRINCE OF ALASKA is a steamy, standalone, fast-paced paranormal romance adventure.

Cute story. Well written and I was able to become vested in the story. It was a little predictable, but I would read more of her work.
This was an enjoyable fun read. The characters were all likable and it did have enough twists to keep you engaged. Standalone story but with enough investment in the other family members to want to read the rest of the series.
This series is a lot better than I expected, really enjoyable.
I really enjoyed the premise and the world building. I liked the characters and bought the next book.
I’m a huge fan of fantasy and shifters. and this story has amazing world building.
Careful! All is not as it seems!! I liked how supportive Toren’s brothers were of him and Carina, especially when it mattered most! They frequently put the cart before the horse, but it works for them. Low angst, high danger and action, and sweet heat. I look forward to following the brother’s journey’s.
Excellent light read. This has dragon shifters, running for her life, and magic. Carina found damaging information while working for a bank, when she tried to do the right thing she was accused of killing the woman that tried to help her. While trying to hide she ended up in Alaska being told she has to get off royal property and also that she was the princes mate. Humorous things happen to them and also someone trying to kill them all to stop them from marrying.
Oh boy do this book need a lot of polishing and rework. While the whole dragon shifter, running from your life and Alaska being a kingdom was an interesting idea, on paper … well, it did not play out that well.
Right from the get go with introducing the main characters the book completely lost me. This was mostly due to the characters being so shallow and generic that they were just names on a paper and therefore really hard to tell apart. Especially between all the brothers. This really saddens me when most of the room in the book was used for long and unnecessary details about places, decorations and other inconsequential things, instead of a good characterization and defining personalities. It really hurt the romance. Or actually, the romance was screwed from the beginning being turned into a lazy insta-love.
Seriously, there is nothing to gain for either the reader or the author to make a romance into insta-love so I have never understood the point in it. It makes the romance vain and shallow since the characters fall in love before they even really interact and get to know each other. The only positive I could see was for the author; her establishing a romance without having to put any work or effort into it. It really at the end of the day was a lose-lose situation though since all they could fall in love with was their looks which was abundantly clear with how they were described as out of this world gorgeous constantly. Neither of them having much of a personality or development made the romance forced and super underwhelming. All they could talk or think about was how fantastic the other was and many other pedestal worthy phrases, yet they had nothing to back that up.
The only thing I could get from them was the one thing I did not want, and that was how oblivious they were. They missed such obvious clues and information staring them right in the face, like who the “villain” was. Surely it was just coincidence that a dog without a owner in a world of shapeshifters just happened to find them and get attached to them given the predicament they were in, randomly disappear when something suspicious happened and then just appear again. Oh and being present when the hiding spot was shown and somehow later the evidence in that hiding spot was just gone. Whoever could it be? Seriously though, I would expect a kindergartener to see who the perp was so them not seeing it was just unrealistic and really got on my nerves when the obviousness was staring them in the face and they did not get it. Then the fact that she just swallowed the whole shapeshifters thing to begin with without any skepticism … just no.
It actually could have been a good book with the idea it had if the writing wasn’t so detached and, excuse my honesty, childishly flawed. I’m not usually the one to point out mistakes in grammar but when it occurs in every other sentence it can’t just be ignored. Not only that, but the writing was kind of awkward, like a character being so hot that she fainted, or how the characters talked out loud to themselves or made really cringe worthy jokes and then laughed so exaggeratedly about it like they never heard a joke in their entire life. It was more like it was directed towards children rather than adults the way it was written, especially when you add that “reveal all my plans just before I get caught” evil monologue at the end. Or the press not asking tough questions just because they were nicely asked not to (that is not how the press works however nice it would be). It all just kind of came of as written for children, minus the sex scenes, since all this this does not get past an adult. Two stars for the effort though.
A great book. This is book 3 in the series. I encourage you to read the others before this one as you will get more from this book if you do so. This book kept my attention and gives you an emotional rollercoaster. This series has more to give and this book gives you a glimpse of what is to come. Cannot wait for the next book. I received an ARC for an honest review.
fun great read
An unexperienced dragon king in the realm of Alaska didn’t do it for me.!
Good
A YA Romantic Fantasy Dragon Tale
Imagine that modern day Alaska is not part of the USA, but instead is a country belonging to a royal family, who also happen to be dragon shifters. Such is the setting for The Dragon Prince of Alaska by Elva Birch.
This stand along read is both quick and easy with likable and interesting characters. The story, though simple, is well written with a balanced amount of descriptions to dialogue. The chemistry between Toren and Carina is sweet with a bit of humor, but it is the element of intrigue that keeps the story interesting. In fact, there is a plot twist that actually took me by surprise.
Content 411: This could have been a very sweet and enjoyable read if not for the unnecessary sex scenes. Thankfully were are only six mild swear words.
Great storyline, but the dragons didn’t really play a role into the story, nor were they significant. So much potential here!
Lots of drama. Wow. Loved how Toren was with carina. They were adorable together. And she took to the info quite well considering. Loved how he stepped up and wanted to learn how to lead.
I fell in love with this series and these characters from the very first chapter of ‘The Dragon Prince of Alaska‘. A Shifter/Paranormal/Alternative Universe Romance written by a favorite of mine among the Zoe Chant authors, this one is just ‘different’ enough in that parallel universe feel with everything familiar I need to find it all plausible, believable enough to get lost in this new world. This is the first title in the ‘Royal Dragons of Alaska‘ series, and I’m already hooked on continuing anything written in this world.
Carina is in big trouble, and that was before she was spotted camping on royal grounds. She’s on the run from some seriously evil people (and company) since she discovered a secret that had lain in plain sight for a very long time unless you knew what to look for or you were a highly skilled accountant out to earn a promotion. Her discovery turns even more ominous and she heads to Alaska, a place where everyone “knows” you can easily get lost in while figuring out what to do next. She never expected magic, shifters, or to become the next Queen of Alaska alongside the handsome, sexy, and adorable Prince Toren… because – magic and the princes knowing who exactly is their fated mates upon meeting them. She’s running for her life — and ran straight into a completely new life with complications and attempted murder.
Toren is the youngest brother of the Royal House, and the least likely by anyone’s opinion to become king. Yet, by decree of a complicated document the next king is always the one who finds his mate first. End of discussion. When given the task of ousting a trespasser on royal grounds no one could have believed that Toren would wander into his mate’s campsite – or the distractions and danger this discovery would bring about.
I adore this world. Yes, I guessed who the bad guy might be early on… but then promptly forgot about that assumption as I became consumed by what was happening to Carina and Toren, as well as meeting the brothers and learning about this world. Clever to give me the clues but make them not seem too terribly important at the time. *wicked smile*
If you love getting in on the beginning of a new series, if you get caught up in puzzles, if you enjoy a really good, sizzling love story, or if you just love an intriguing parallel world series – then you’re going to love ‘The Dragon Prince of Alaska‘. I’m already anxiously waiting for the next title because I need to dive back into this world – I enjoyed it that much, and I believe you will, too.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
