David Rosenfelt is one of my favorite authors. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this audiobook, the story is written just like someone is talking to me in the room and narrated by Grover Gardner and he does a great job from the beginning of the book to the end. The main characters are a perfect blend for Andy Carpenter, Laurie Collins his Private Investigator and love of his life, good friend Sam who he does song talks together and of course, Tara his golden retriever. This story is about the murder of Tony Preston a wide receiver for the New York Jets who is found murdered and Andy Carpenter is the lawyer who gets his friends and staff together to get all the facts.
I really enjoyed this one, although I guessed the ending(s) about halfway through. Of course, I had to keep reading to see if I was right — and enjoyed every swipe of the kindle page.
David Rosenfelt’s Andy Carpenter is a laugh out loud masterful defense lawyer that has captured my heart since I stumbled on an audio book last year. Since then, I have tried to read as many of his adventures as I can. I have been reading them out of order, which is not the best way to experience David Rosenfelt’s incredible talent. He does have cliffhangers usually in dealing with his loveable main character, Andy’s personal life. That is especially true in Sudden Death book 4 in the series. But David keeps most of the support characters in Andy’s life the same in every book, building and adding to their lives and personalities, so you always seem to know what’s happening whether you are reading book 1 or further in the series! The only thing that changes are the cases Andy is involved in and the characters that are part of the case.
David Rosenfelt is a wizard at creating legal mysteries that keep you guessing as to who is the real villain literally right up to the last sentence on the last page. David lays out the in’s and It’s of trial investigation, pre-trial prep and the trial as though you were right there in the room every step of the way. He is such an artist with words, you feel the anxiety just like Andy and his team as you wait for the juries verdict. And just when you are coming down from the high you feel at the end of the roller coaster ride you have been on since the book started, David Rosenfelt throws in a last minute zinger that you never see coming.
Andy Carpenter series is a laugh out loud romp through the legal system and the people caught up in it, that is entertaining as well as thrilling. Who knows! David Rosenfelt’s Andy Carpenter may just have you believing that lawyers aren’t such bad guys after all!
Loving this series. In Sudden Death, defense attorney Andy Carpenter takes on a high-profile murder case involving football players. Adding to the weight of the case is the fact that the love of his life, Laurie Collins, has been offered a job in her hometown which would mean her leaving Paterson, Andy, and Tara for good if she accepts. Things get quite dangerous in Sudden Death, both for his life, and his heart. Great read in a great series.
This is the first book by this author I have read. It is wonderfully written, great characters, and a very interesting plot. I am not a fan of Golden Retrievers but Tara is a great addition to both the plot and the characters she supports. The dialogue is great and descriptions leave just enough room for you to put your on spin on circumstances of the case. Had a great and unexpected ending.
angst, the-mob, dogs, law-enforcement, lawyers, murder, murder-investigation *****
The body in the closet, the NFL star with a smoking gun, the clueless lawyer, the regular Mob boss, the crazed Mob boss, and the murder trial from hell all factor into this compelling read. The suspense is awful and the characters certainly are, but I just couldn’t put it down! Didn’t hurt that there were references to Milwaukee, Norway, and Jeremiah.
As always, love David Rosenfelt’s character Andy Carpenter! It’s a great read!!
An early entry in the series and one of the better ones.
