The third book in the Highland, Georgia romantic comedy series from Laura Trentham, A Highlander is Coming to Town, full of love, laughs…and highlanders! You better watch out. . . Holt Pierson is dreading Christmas. His parents absconded to Florida for the season and left him to handle the family farm which will be his one day–whether he wants it or not. Driven by duty, Holt has always … it or not. Driven by duty, Holt has always followed the path expected of him. But lately, he’s been questioning what he wants and where he belongs. Will assuming the responsibility of the Pierson farm make him happy or is there something–or someone–else out in the wider world calling to him?
To Claire Smythe, the Scottish lead singer of a touring band, Highland, Georgia, is the perfect place to hide . . .until a very handsome and deeply curious Holt begins to ask all the questions Claire doesn’t want to answer. As Holt draws Claire out from under and into the fabric of small-town life, can Claire put the past behind her and embrace the unexpected gifts of the season–including the new and lasting love?

“Christmas in Highland is the perfect place for a miracle.”
A Highlander is Coming to Town by Laura Trentham is a wonderful addition to the author’s Highland, Georgia series. This is the third book in the series. I really enjoyed reading this book. The two main characters are very likable. Claire is in Highland thinking hard about life choices she needs to make and falling for Holt which ends up affecting her choice. The Christmas spirit in Highland was fun to experience. It was great to be able to visit again with favorite characters from past books in the series as well as getting to meet and get to knew new ones. I highly recommend this book.
A delightful little romance. Claire “Smythe” is a Scottish lass hiding out in Highland Georgia after leaving her Scottish rock band, the Scunners. She is working as a caregiver for the elderly Mrs. Meadows for her room and board. Holt Pierson is running his parents farm as they traipse around the country. Holt meets Claire when she is running errands, and realizes who she is, and that she is hiding secrets. He is intrigued and wants to get to know the mysterious Claire. Claire is a bit neurotic, but as you get to know her, you understand why. Holt is just a delight, handsome, sweet, and an all around good guy. The path to live for these two was fun to follow. This is the third book in the series, but can be read as a stand-alone. After reading this book, I will definitely be reading the first two. I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.
The storyline was well written and the characters were very likable, believable and so engaging that Holt and Claire pulled me right into their story as it unfolded!
The Highland, Georgia series by Laura Trentham is such a great series. This is also a stand-alone, so if you haven’t read the other, it’s okay. There is mention of a few characters from past books; but, you don’t need to know their whole story. If you have read the last book in this series then you know Holt Pierson. I was so happy to see him get his own story and not just be a secondary character. Claire Smythe is introduced in this story as the lead singer of a Scottish rock band called The Scudders. She decided to leave the band and stay in Highland for a while. She is a young woman surrounded by mystery. Holt assists her one day and that is the beginning of their friendship; although Claire’s promise to herself was not to get attached to any one or any place. It doesn’t look like she’ll be able to keep that promise.
I thoroughly enjoy Ms Trentham’s writing style and prose. This book is well written with some wonderful characters. I loved meeting Ms. Meadows and the cousins Jessie Mac and Jessie Joe; as well as some others. Wonderful story, I almost hated to see it end.
I loved this book. It is a wonderful story of a young lady trying to find her place in the world, one that isn’t connected with her family name. Claire is sort of hiding in Highland, Georgia after leaving the band that she had been touring with. Claire has been staying with and taking care of Ms. Meadows, an elderly lady who was unable to stay alone any more. Theirs is an interesting relationship and Claire doesn’t realize just how special it is until it is threatened by her leaving. After a small mishap, Claire meets Ms. Meadows’s neighbor, Holt Pierson. The more time Holt and Claire spend together the deeper their feelings for each other grow, but will their relationship withstand Claire’s past that she has been hiding from. Will Claire realize in time that all that she has been searching for for the past few years is now at her fingertips? What would you be willing to give up to be with the one you love? This book had me laughing a lot in some places and then really thinking in others. It was well written and very enjoyable and one that I would read again.
Thanks to Netgalley, the author and St. Martin’s Publishing group for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book. My review is being given freely and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the 3rd in the series and my favorite so far-they just keep getting better & better! A light, happy HEA. Love the grumpy heroine & pollyanna hero trope. Looking forward very much to the next one.
Claire has been running from her future for years but now it is about to catch up with her. Hiding out in the town of Highland she starts to make connections with people and one in particular, the sexy Holt Pierson, makes her want to open up in a way she never has before. Holt is a lovely guy with an even temperament that never gets upset at Claire’s prickly attitude. It is obvious from the start that there are sparks between the pair of them but Claire’s secrets are a barrier that Holt slowly chips away at.
Great secondary characters, small town charm/closeness and a satisfying HEA ending.
I enjoyed this story but I thought there was going to be more to Claire’s backstory as she was extremely wary of men and seemed paranoid about being noticed/making friends. I thought something must have happened to her between being the extrovert lead singer of a band with her sexy clothes and look at me attitude; to then suddenly wearing multiple layers that hide her shape and wanting to be invisible. However apart from not wanting her true name to be known there was nothing to explain this character volte-face. The title of the book is a bit of a misnomer as Claire is from Glasgow in the Scottish Lowlands and was mainly raised in England.
I have not read any of the other books in the series and it can definitely be read as a standalone.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the first book I have read in The Highland, Georgia series, and can be read as a stand alone. This is book 3, a love story between Claire and Holt.
Claire is avoiding her family and responsibility. When she turns 25 she inherits shares of the family company.
Holt is trying to figure out his place and future.
Really liked the chemistry be Claire and Holt.
Crusty old Ms. Meadows turned out to be a friend to Claire and a woman I really liked.
Small town, laughter, love and friendship will keep you wanting more.
Thank you NetGalley and St Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read this book.
I loved this book. It was a sweet and endearing love story. This was my first book by this author and it definitely will not be my last. I recommend this book and this author.
Great story about people, who have to make choices. Holt is supposed to run his family farm, doesn’t matter if he wants it or not. Claire, run away from her responsibility, on her 25th birthday, which is coming, she’ll inherit shares of her family company. Will both of them make their decision and how they affect them.
Did enjoy this book.
A Highlander is Coming to Town (Highland, Georgia #3) by Laura Trentham I love Highland, Georgia and would loved to live there or at least visit. I hated to put this down to eat or sleep…. I love all the people of Highland and all the feels in this book, tears, fears, hard decisions, laughter, steam, and of course a very HEA.
Another wonderful story by this author. This is the third book in the series and is just as much fun to read as the first two . I found myself laughing quite a lot in this book. The two main characters in this one is Holt Pierson who is left to handle the family farm and Claire Smythe The lead singer of a band who is hiding out. When they meet life gets real interesting for everybody. Very quick read puts a nice smile on your face hope there will be more of this series
This was an easy enjoyable story. It had a good story, and perfect amount of romance. It’s a perfect book to read just before Christmas. It will certainly put you the holiday mood.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the early copy
A Highlander is Coming To Town is a fantastic contemporary romance by Laura Trentham. Ms. Trentham has provided readers with a well-written book. I love the characters in this story. Claire has felt neglected by her parents her whole life and lands in Highland, Georgia after quitting as the lead singer of the band she traveled with. Holt has spent his life in Highland, farming with his parents. His parents are off touring the US so he’s running the farm on his own. Claire and Holt’s story is packed with drama, humor, spice and a little suspense. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to my next book by Laura Trentham. A Highlander Is Coming To Town is book 3 of the Highland, Georgia Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
**I received a copy of A Highlander is Coming to Town from St. Martin’s and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions are my own and not solicited in any way.**
A Highlander is Coming to Town by Laura Trentham is the third book in her Highland, Georgia series. This is Holt and Claire’s book but it’s really Ms. Meadows who I’m sure everyone had a beloved teacher everyone loved. She taught the whole town science and the lessons she teaches Claire are the most important one..love, and family may not be the one your born with it’s the people around you. I can’t wait for the next book and the best line in the book is when Holt tells Claire that of course he’s going to wear a kilt to the bar because he’ll get a free beer.
Claire Smythe decided to stay after the Highland festival giving up the Scunners singing group and taking care of former teacher Ms. Meadows (Careful of her shotgun) using a bicycle to get into town. Holt Pierson rescues her during a rain storm and he knows there’s a reason she’s hiding in Highland so he’s willing to find out with a burned dinner and showing his farm animals to her. Little does he know that her biggest decision is coming right after the Robert Burns festival at Christmas, will she stay or move on? Can he convince her to stay?
Holt Pierson is lonely when his parents retire to sunny Florida leaving him with the farm that’s his
legacy. Meeting Claire in town may just be what he needs to get over his doldrums however hell have to get beyond her reluctance to share information. He introduces her to his best friend Annie, Ian and Dr. Meadows giving her a sense of family she never had. An emergency with Ms. Meadows will bring many decisions for everyone involved including Claire.
A Highlander is Coming to Town by Laura Trentham is a delightful, charming romance that is the third in the Highland, Georgia romance series.
Holt Pierson is the local that is at a crossroads in trying to figure out his place in life and what he wants for his future to include when he comes across another soul searching for answers in Claire Smythe, a Scottish singer, who drops into his life with her own problems and issues.
They end up running into one another and are placed into multiple situations where they end up seeking answers and acceptance from the other all while the author has the excellent ability in keeping these potentially deep and serious subjects light, airy, entertaining, and humorous.
I liked the chemistry and interplay between Holt and Claire and enjoyed the plot and pacing, as well. I also love a good Christmas theme, so that was an added plus for me.
All in all a great romance and a great ending.
5/5 stars
