This novel was full of suspense and just the strong-willed female character we all need.
The story follows Mollie, an amateur detective. While at a grand opening event for her friend’s nail salon, she finds a dead body. When that friend’s brother is the suspect from the murder, Mollie promises she will clear his name.
I loved the slow built of the story. It started with a trivia game, going onto a protest, and then murder. It was action-packed! I loved how the calico was so much like a human being. The funny nicknames Mollie’s husband gives her are uproarious. The weird way that Mollie caries her conversations with the sheriff is farcical. And we all know a person such as Charmaine Buttercup. The book was stunning.

This series is so funny! Mollie is such a character! And Scooter, oh my gosh, don’t say ‘murder’ or ‘blood’ around him, he’ll pass out or need lots and lots of chocolate! The murder mysteries were really good too. I was so off on who I thought committed the murders. Mollie figured it out though, even getting a compliment on solving it from the Chief!

This was another great installment of the Mollie McGhie Mystery series.
Scooter and Molly have to be the strongest couple on the planet. Mollie keeps finding bodies and Scooter keeps eating chocolate to cope. Scooter keeps starting new hobbies- from sailing to CatTube to trivia and Mollie keeps eating chocolate to cope. I guess it’s their unified reliance on chocolate that keeps these two going.
Seriously, the laughs keep coming, unfortunately along with the deaths, as Mollie and Scooter become more and more a part of the Coconut Cove community. This book helps solidify their status as “like family” with all the other reoccurring characters.
I don’t want to say too much because I’d rather you read this book and all the books in this delightful series. This series has been a wonderful lighthearted escape for me the past few years and I look forward to more.

Highly recommended to fans of humor and cozy mysteries.
I get such a kick out of Mollie McGhie’s antics while she goes about solving a murder. Such is the case in the 5th book in this series. Her long-suffering husband plays a bigger role in Shooting by the Sea. Mollie is an original. She plays the fumbling detective brilliantly. The cast of characters are nearly as entertaining as she is. For an easy, relaxing read, you can’t go wrong with Shooting by the Sea.
Mollie and Scooter are on a team auditioning for a trivia game show. One of their teammates, Alejandra, has a dream to open her own nail salon. The grand opening of The Nail Nook is interrupted by the death of the ruthless landlord, and Alejandra’s brother is the prime suspect. Naturally, Mollie starts asking questions. My favorite new character is the hilarious Charmaine Buttercup. I especially laughed at Mollie’s amorous advice for the Chief.

Another fabulous Mollie adventure!
Love the setting of these books. The cast of characters is fantastic. Scooter especially shines in this installment. The plots are always different and entertaining throughout the series. I love the twists and turns they take. It’s so much fun trying to figure out the villain throughout the story.
A great read full of fun and mystery and intrigue – highly recommended!
