Out of all the mysterious boarders who call Sanctuary home, no one is more antisocial or withdrawn than Maxis Drago. But then, it’s hard to blend in with the modern world when you have a fifty foot wingspan. Centuries ago, he was cursed by an enemy who swore to see him fall. An enemy who took everything from him and left him forever secluded. But Fate is a bitch, with a wicked sense of humor. And … sense of humor. And when she throws old enemies together and threatens the wife he thought had died centuries ago, he comes back with a vengeance. Modern day New Orleans has become a battleground for the oldest of evils. And two dragons will hold the line, or go down in flames, in Dragonbane, the next explosive Dark-Hunter novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon.

i LOVED!!! this book!!!!! sherrilyn kenyon just continues to get better and better. i dont know about anyone else, but every story i read hits me some where deep inside. what maxi went thur at the hands of the amazons was terrible. abuse comes in many forms from physical, to emotional to mental sometimes the thing people who love us say can hurt and cut deep into your heart. i had a father who loved me but when he was drinking would say some of the meanest things and make me feel lesser then. i cried in different parts of this book. because deep inside i think all anyone of us really want is to be loved for who and what we are. cant wait for your next dragon book!!!!! i wasnt like the other little girls who wanted to be a princess, i wanted to be a beautiful dragon!!!
Max and Seraphina’s story was all about honor, commitment, sadness and finding happiness again.
Maxis is the mysterious dragon who lives in the attic of Sanctuary. When his past comes back to him in the form of Seraphina, his mate, he learns things that have been hidden from him. With war coming to them will they be able to save those closest to them? Max and Sera must come to terms with their brutal past in order to fight old and new enemies. This is an intense read with a lot going on. I loved it!
Excellent storytelling, but a lacking romance. I loved how SK went back to know characters and expanded on them some. I love that we get a dragon! I just wish the romance was expanded on more.
1 Why do I keep doing this to myself Stars!
*Spoilers below*
I am about to rant my butt off. Just a heads up!
Did I just pay 14.99 to feel like a idiot? Really why do I keep doing this to myself? I have read every book in the Dark Hunter Series, so what 24 books, not counting the novellas I have read. The last few book have gotten more and more over the top and confusing. I feel like I need a Masters Degree in Mythology just to read these books anymore. I end up crossed eyed trying to keep up with all the pantheons, characters, bad guys, and mystical artifacts …..
The last book Son of No One was so confusing , but this one was so much worse. I can’t even tell you how many times I was confused reading this. I could have been reading a manual on how to build a engine and understood it better. I couldn’t tell you what the hell this book was about to save your life.
Who has what powers, who answers to who, which bad guy is coming for whatever group of people. The plot is so over the top, complex, and confusing that it isn’t fun to read this series anymore, it’s work.
I feel like I am in school again. With Son of No One I skimmed over all of the pantheon confusing crap and just read the parts with the love story, but Dragonbane didn’t really have much of a love story. And what little bit of a love story was in this book wasn’t good. The heroine was a huge pos. I hated her so much. Max and Seraphina have been Mates for 100s of years, but Max left her because Seraphina is a pos like I already mentioned. The 3 years they lived together as mates she abused, and disrespected him, allowed her queen and all of her Amazon tribe to inspect him naked, groping and humiliating him. She allowed her whole tribe to abuse him, leave him out, make fun of him, and treat him like trash, and call him a animal. Then at her queen’s request she betrays him pretending like she is going to kiss him, but instead collars him like a animal in a collar that zaps all his powers leaving him helpless and lets her queen and the whole tribe beat him nearly to death. Then he leaves her. Oh and lets not forget she was pregnant with his twins and she didn’t bother to tell him. Keeping his kids from him! He has grown up kids that he never got to see grow up.
Then the reason she is back is because her queen is holding her children and says she is going kill them unless Seraphina brings Max to her so she can kill him and have his heart. But I am suppose to believe that she is all of a sudden having a change of heart and now she wants him back. Are you kidding me???
Now she feels bad? What the hell ever! And OMG he takes her back!!!!! Really?? At that point I was just done. I hated their bs abusive relationship. She should get no new chances. Hell I have no clue how any of that could be called love. When did he fall for her when she was hating him because he was born Dragon, when she was treating him like a slave, when she was allowing everyone to abuse him. So much to love there.
Because of OCD and the the fact that the compulsion to finish a series once I start it is so strong it eats at me until I wanna rip my hair out I keep pick up this series hoping to see it through to the end, but it is evident to me that Sherrilyn Kenyon plans on beating a dead horse.
I don’t know if I will pick up the next book in this series. I started out loving this series so much and now I am just so disappointed that I don’t know what to think. I do know this much, I will not buy the next book if I do read it. I will get it from the library. I will not spend another 15 dollars to drive my self crazy
Original review: https://myshelfbooks.wordpress.com/2018/08/12/dragonbane-sherrilyn-kenyon/
This is book 24 of the Dark-Hunter saga. 24!! And I’m not even up-to-date. This month, the 27th will be published. Some people may be tired of Kenyon’s crazy world, but I love it even more now that it has got so big. My intention was to catch up with this saga before the new release, but I have to be honest with myself and drop the dream. I like to mix my books to make the hobby more fun. I will catch up, of course, but I’m not in a hurry.
This book is the book of Maxis, the weredragon that has been living in Sanctuary for a long time. He was betrayed by his mate and left her. The dragon thought she was dead, but suddenly appears in Sanctuary looking for him. Unfortunately, she wasn’t alone. Her queen Nala is with her, a long time enemy of Maxis. Even though he thought Seraphine hated him, she doesn’t tell her queen that her mate is close. Everyone leaves except Sera and the make-up ride begins.
The story is rather simple. What is complex is the world that Kenyon has been building over the years, so there are a lot of pieces all over the table. Keeping track of everything could be daunting, but the author does her best to make the book easier for the reader. The cast is so big, that a big chunk of the book is just to introduce one character to another and build the relationship among them. If there is something I love about Kenyon’s style is her sense of humor and outstanding banter in the dialogs. That makes the reading such a wonderful experience. It’s like a Christmas dinner with a family (a rather huge one). It doesn’t matter how long you have been away… you are always welcome!!
That is why I can forigive Sherrilyn almost everything. I can even forgive that this book is a bit… lazy. Several times, she builds tension around a situation and then it ends abruptly: the rescue of Max’s children, the recovery of the Emerald Tablet, the escape of Sera and Max after the accidental stabbing… All those situations seemed pretty huge and dangerous, but they are resolved “behind the scenes”. As a reader, that left me a sour aftertaste. I wanted a big fight against the demons, but I guess that wasn’t in Kenyon’s plans. I was expecting more for those moments, so I’m a bit disappointed by them.
As always, the best part of the book are the characters. It’s obviously that she loves creating new pawns for her world and Im glad for it. In this case, Hadyn (Max’s son) is my favourite addition. I have no idea if she plans to make a book for him, but I hope there is one in the future!! Yeah, I have a weird crush even though we barely know him!!
My favourite moment of the book: the reunion between Nick and Acheron. It’s not a proper meeting, but they get to be in the same room and they behave!! They even exchange a few words!! As a huge fan of Ash and Nick, I am relieved to see that their friendship is not as dead as it seemed. Or maybe it was just that the situation called for adults and not kids throwing tantrums. Nah, I prefer the optimistic explanation. If there is something I have a huge respect for in the Dark-Hunter books is the optimism. It doesn’t matter if everything looks lost, there is always a light that the heroes can follow to triumph.
Obviously, they are going to need that light to face the Apollo and Kessar situation. Is there going to be a bloody conflict or will be resolved easily as the situations in this book? I’ll know the answer with the next one, which I plan to read this year if everything goes as planned.
I have been curious about Max ever since he was first introduced and so little information has been given about him. It turns out Maxis is amazing. Sera on the other hand was an awful person and while I’m glad Max gets is HEA, Sera doesn’t deserve one. Unfortunately those have to go hand in hand. But in all seriousness, Sera is terrible and doesn’t deserve an ounce of happiness. While technically she was redeemed by the end, it wasn’t enough for me, and by the end, while I no longer hated her, she certainly isn’t my favorite.
