Gilded Ruins

REVIEW
Gilded Ruins is the follow up to Blinding Night, and I recommend reading the books in sequential order to avoid confusion. This story is a retelling of the tale of Hades and Persephone. The author gives it a modern makeover, and it works well. The characters Summer and Darce continue their journey to Mount Olympus to see Summer’s mother. They need Zeus to give the okay for their relationship to exist, so they can have a happy ending. Will it be that easy to get permission from Zeus? True love is never an easy road, and anything could happen. This is a basic concept that the author developed into an entertaining and compelling story. There are excellent secondary characters, and the time and place are aptly and vividly depicted. I think the length of the story is more like a novella, so it’s a good choice if you’re short on time. If you like mythology and retellings, you should try Gilded Ruins. I found it enjoyable and creative, and I would like to read more from the author.
Enjoyed seeing some of the other gods and goddesses in this book and how they interact with each other. Felt really bad for Morpheus and wonder if he will ever get a love interest. Was a little thrown on how Zeus and Darce’s relationship ended up. Seemed a bit too neat. Overall it was a great read.
First and foremost Gilded Ruins is the sequel to Blinding Night. I highly recommend both these book as they are both truly phenomenal! Read Blinding Night first though otherwise you won’t know what’s going on.
That being said all I can really say is woah! I have been patiently waiting for book 2 ever since I read Blinding Night and the author sure didn’t disappoint. She cane back stronger than ever making Gilden Ruins a truly amazing read. Not too fast so you can follow along without getting lost but yet not too slow to where you were board out of your mind.
The author picks up a few days after book one ends. Summer, Darce, Morpheus, Thanatos, Arae, Erebus are trying to ready the underworld for Summers summoning and trying to ready Summer to what she’s about to walk into. Hermès is still wondering around making everyone nervous since him being there is a constant reminder of what’s to come. They are brought to Poseidon’s yacht and we meet a whole new group of Gods and Goddesses. Eros, Aphrodite, and Dionysus being a few of my favorites. Throughout the story we get to see Summers growth throughout. She becomes more mature and quite frankly a kick a** heroine. Through out all the stories and tales she stays true to herself. She knows that Darce, Morpheus, and the others from the underworld are the ones she can truly trust no matter what. I love the banter between Thanatos, and Arae. They truly are so funny. I love watching the relationship blossom between Arae and Summer. Summer and Morpheus become stronger than ever and the friendship that grows between them is something everyone truly wants in life.
There are lots of twists so you must pay close attention to figure things out. Loyalties are put to the test. Tales are spun that aren’t what they seem. Questions are answered not always revealing perfect answers. Summer has a lot thrown at her and each time she comes back stronger than ever knowing exactly what she believes to be true.
Minithe and Demeter are back creating all kinds of trouble as usual. The two of them being a lot closer in their horrible acts than we originally thought.
This book had me feeling all kinds of emotions. Laughter, sadness, OMG moments that had me gasping, and so much more. I know these books took a lot of research into making them as amazing as they are. All this creating a story that we can literally see ourselves in with all the characters. I’m truly lucky I was able to read these books.
A definite must read series!!
