AFTER LOSING MY JOB and my home in the same day, I need a miracle. And that miracle is coming in the form of an interview with the son of a local oil baron, Gentry King. The catch? I have to hop on a private jet with said gorgeous oil baron to get to the interview. Except, I miss the interview when we get waylaid by a snowstorm. Now I’m stranded with Mr. King. In the same hotel room. With only … With only one bed.
I’VE MADE A PROMISE TO MYSELF—no more women. It’s not like I’m a love ’em and leave ’em kind of guy. They all know the score, and they’re all looking for the same thing I am. But I have to set a better example for my grown sons, who seem to be making all the wrong decisions when it comes to their relationships.
The last thing I need is to be stranded in a snowstorm with Kendall, twenty years my junior and unintentionally sexy. We’re stuck in very close quarters. With no electricity. And no heat other than what we can generate…
King’s Crown is a standalone novel in the Oil Kings series written by an award-winning author.

Good story about a family involved in too much controvery.
I’m an age-gap junkie so of course I jumped at the chance at reading this story as part of the blog tour for book 3 in this series, King’s Treasure. I just met this author’s writing no more than about 5 or 6 months ago so I don’t have a whole lot of experience with her writing but what I do have has been really great and so far, the first three King books are following that same path!
I enjoyed Gentry and Kendall’s journey even though it was drama fueled, and when I say drama, I mean DRAMA. It came from all sides. And you know what? I was okay with all of it because it was expected. This particular story needs the drama in order to be an effective, well thought out plot. So props to Marie Johnston for accomplishing that with me rolling my eyes or wanting to stab someone. Okay, it’s possible I maaaay have wanted to stab one or two people along the way but maybe just like a shallow stab LOL There are already a ton of reviews that in my opinion give away too many plot points of the story so I’m not going into any more detail than that. I just wanted to make the point sometimes, soap opera (ish) storylines are necessary for not just the story to make sense, but also to set up future books. Okay, that’s it on that. Let’s move on.
So Gentry and Kendall were a great match as far as I’m concerned. They may have had a rather sizeable age-gap, but Kendall was all grown up before it was time for her to even be a grown-up. Life circumstances made sure she matured rather quickly, which matured her past her age. I felt their connection in the story and I loved their chemistry!
Sidebar: I do have to mention one thing because it’s a thing with me, but nobody’s winning any prizes with this cover LOL That guy doesn’t look anywhere near 50ish and I don’t know what’s happening with that very long scarf blowing in the wind …. #help LOL
This is the 1st in a new series and is Gentry and Kendall’s story. Kendall is divorced and newly unemployed and is looking forward to a fresh start with an out-of-town job prospect, and while on a plane on route for her interview, she meets Gentry who is a widower and the CEO of the family business. When they are stuck together during a snowstorm, they get to know each other, and the attraction between then is palpable, and there are many challenges along the way with his meddling sons, mother-in-law, and co-workers. This is a well written age difference romance story which is entertaining and an addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I recommend.
Gentry and Kendall
Fun, fun book to read. Lots of family drama but handled nicely. The age difference was an issue that was overcome.
I am not usually into the age gap romance but this one was pretty good.I was more interested in the dynamic of the family itself. This book doesn’t gloss over the challenges adult children face when accepting a new relationship. I loved it when Gentry stood up for Kendall despite the negative reaction from his family. I kind of like the family animosity. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
It’s always fun to see the different plots available. The age gap as well as the income gap in this romance made it a fun read.
This is book one in a series and I received an arc from the author to review this series.
I loved this book so much. Its very different than I pictured it but I loved every second of it. Its an age gap romance as he, Gentry is 49 and Kendall is 28 but she has been taking care of her siblings for years so she really was very mature and was tired of dealing with immature boys and they had a lot in common.
The story begins with Kendall who is living with her ex husband, said boy who kicks her out so his college girl friend can move in. Then she gets fired because she does not have a college degree but a fellow co-workers offers her a lead on a well paying job in Denver and thats how evil granny Emilia enters her life.
Gentry has some business in Wyoming and he is asked by Emilia to pick up Kendall and drop her off in Denver for a job interview with his son Beckett. But no one told the weather man that and so they end up snowed in and a one bedded room in a big snow storm in Wyoming.
This is very much a friends turning to lovers and work place romance story rather than an age gap story. The obstacles in their way are more about her job working for King’s Oil after being snowed in together rather than their age. It was a wonderful story about two very lonely people who find a close friendship with each other while facing obstacles at work and with Gentry’s own family. I loved it and can’t wait to dig into book 2.
New author to me and I’m looking forward to reading more of this series!! Kendall younger woman and Gentry the older man. I loved this book.
Silver Fox finds his young sexy Vixen
King’s Crown is the first book in the Oil Kings series by Marie Johnston. This is the story of one very unlucky young lady whose luck definitely turns on a dime in the blinding whiteness of a snowstorm. Add in a very sexy silver fox, oh who am I kidding the man epitomizes of “Sex on a Stick” and I want to lick him until I get to the sweet center!
Gentry King and Kendall Brinkley are wonderful together even if it does not start out quite so smoothly. But in the end when you are forced to share one hotel room with only one bed and no where to go these two start peeling the onion and then their clothes.
This is a great first book in the series and sets the stage for more to come. After all the man has Gentry has four very sexy sons if they take after their old man at all. I can’t wait to see who the first one up is.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
This had me entranced. It’s an older man, younger woman romance that’s complex and passionate that it was hard to put down. Gentry and Kendall have their work cut out for them. Their attraction is instant but both control themselves because there are other things at play and as hard as it is to move past their attraction and connection, it’s hard. The pull and chemistry they have is explosive and I loved being able to see them maneuver everything and grow and move past all the obstacles.

ONE DECADENTLY DELICIOUS TREAT!!!
Sensational! Marie wiped the floor with this praise worthy storyline and laudable plot, ratcheting up the tension and highlighting an impressive approach with all the acumen, proclivity, imagination and intellect rocking this piece of perfection from start to finish without a single hitch. A raging vortex chocked full of baffling circumstances and staggering events, fuse this baby together sleek, shiny and tight. Laying out incredible, well rounded scenario’s that punch dead center, ramping up the exuberance and gusto with such intensity and precision, testing our characters in ways they could have never anticipated. The attraction and chemistry sizzles alluring and mesmerizing, binding them to one another perfectly. Twixt, twinned and put through their paces dodging astonishing twists and stunning turns, testing our characters in ways they could have never imagined. The characters are authentic and original with qualities and traits that transforms into amazing personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and descriptions, as to give you a full understanding and realism that flows smoothly. Remarkable job Marie, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.
Poor Kendall has had a run of bad luck she lost her job, her roommate (her ex-husband) replaces her in the house they share with his latest lover and she is forced to move home with her family. The family depends on her to help with her younger siblings too much. A dream job pops up and she has a flight on the family’s private jet for the interview with her potential boss’s father. A winter snowstorm grounds them and of course, there is only one hotel room available in town. Gentry lost his wife years before and he has raised his sons while being a bit of a playboy on the side, no relationships. I enjoyed these characters and the attraction they had for each other. This book starts the story for this family with lots of drama based on Gentry’s dead wife’s will and the dynamics within this family. Waiting for the next book in this family’s future.
LOVED!! Gentry and Kendall’s story was not what I was expecting, but I am completely in love! Sweet, drama free and just plain amazing! This is one of the best age-gap stories I have ever read! I love a good Silver Fox and Gentry was perfect!! I cannot wait for the rest of the books in this series!! FIVE STARS!!
Poor Kendall… Laid off her job and evicted by her ex on the same day. Widower Gentry is just slogging through each day as CEO of the family oil company. His mother-in-law Emilia rules with an iron fist and is trying to get her four grandsons wed to comply with their deceased mother’s trust requirements. She send Kendall, but she gets snowed in for several with Gentry. She is not going to hookup with his son. However, he is vulnerable to all Kendall has to offer; she’s smart, witty and has an uncanny insight to his business. Can he get pass the 20 year age difference? Familiarity leads to getting to know you pretty quick. Not a whole lot of drama or intrigue or violence. Steamy stuff that doesn’t take up the whole book, yes! Nicely written and I really enjoyed reading it! Just long enough and an easy read.

*Spoiler Alert*
Opposites attract despite an age gap and a massive fortune. Whilst being taken for a job interview by private jet Kendall (FMC) and Gentry King (the father of her potential boss) wind up snowed in at a hotel in the middle of nowhere. They spend the time getting to know each other and find out they have a little in common. I loved Kendall and Gentry. Their tentative relationship was honest and sweet regardless of their age, financial differences and other outside influences. A great romantic book and read too
I loved this romance. Kendall and Gentry were such a fun couple. After being a widower for years and raising four sons, Gentry is not looking for a relationship. He has meaningless affairs but doesn’t let anyone close. Kendall is divorced from her loser husband and is out of a job and a home when she gets an interview for a job with Gentry’s son’s. But she has to fly out with Gentry meet Beck and they get caught in a snow storm and are stranded in a small town for several days, sharing a room. He is twenty years older than her but with nothing to do they talk about their pasts and get to know each other. Kendall didn’t know that the job she had applied for was really Beck’s grandmother trying to set her up as a wife for him. When Gentry tells her she goes back home, but she has feelings for Gentry and Gentry has feelings for her. But will his mother-in-law and his four adult boys approve if he dates Kendall? And is he really ready for a serious relationship with a look toward the future? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review
“King’s Crown” Book 1 of Marie Johnston’s new series The Oil Kings, is a delicious, drama free, sexy, engrossing, and entertaining read. I absolutely loved everything about it.
Gentry King is one hell of a complicated man. Married straight out of high school, father to four sons, pawn in his mother in laws hands and left a widower all before his thirtieth birthday. Fast forward twenty years and he is a sexy as sin silver fox, running an oil empire alongside his mother in law and oldest son and a certified playboy until the moment that changes everything.
Kendall Brinkley is 29, divorced and newly unemployed. She’s an old soul in a young woman’s cute and sexy body. Being one of six siblings forced her to grow up fast and her sense of responsibility towards her youngest brothers and sister a breaking point for past men she’s been involved with.
Gentry and Kendall meet and it’s a match made in romance book heaven except for all the baggage that comes with it. A twenty year age gap, an interfering MIL, sons who don’t forgive or forget easily and workplace politics to name a few. But overcome these obstacles they do, making their happily ever after an incredible one. I absolutely loved this book and look forward to reading Beckett’s story and all the other Kings stories. TBR and Enjoy. (I read an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.)
Large Age Difference.
Kendall is only a year older than Gentry King’s oldest son but the age difference doesn’t matter to either of them. As the oldest of six with busy parents, Kendall has practically brought her siblings up and they still rely on her for support, something her previous partners have not been understanding of. Gentry has four grown boys and understands family loyalty but due to his lifestyle after the death of his wife years earlier and Kendall’s age, his sons and ex mother-in-law are less accepting. An enjoyable story, steeped in family, with interesting characters and a good plot. Can’t wait for the next book to be published.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book was a pleasant surprise. I usually avoid older man/younger woman romance books at all costs. King’s Crown took a slightly different direction.
Although there was a 20 year age difference between Gentry and Kendall, Kendall was an old soul. She shouldered a ton of responsibility from an early age, and was still carrying a load for her family.
Gentry had issues with his son’s stemming from their mother’s death, and his subsequent behavior during the years after her death. Gentry found a strong, independent, intelligent woman that gave him both a reason and the strength to stand up to his former mother in law, as well as lay down the law with his sons.
Gentry and Kendall have a number of situations to overcome such as money, jobs, family, etc. before they reach their HEA. It will be interesting to see how this series progresses.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel from the first page until the very last. It has been very rare that I have been able to read a book in one day, but I was captivated by these characters instantaneously.
Let me just start off by saying that I have already set an alarm in my phone to remind me to be on the look out for the next book in this series! I absolutely LOVE these novels and the romantic atmosphere that they bring without becoming crude and overbearing. So many times, now-a-days, there are individuals out there quick to write a fast story with too much lust and not enough romance; however, you never have to worry about that when it comes to the Oil Kings series!
Kick back in your chair, dim the lights, make yourself something to drink along with a snack while you join the story of a young woman discovering that maybe love is within her grasp after all. Everyone gives up too easily on their family whenever there has been abandonment or deep resentment placed that took a couple of years to build up, but no one ever take the time to look deeper to see that the person in question places more guilt placed upon their own shoulders than that that anyone else could place. Come and read about a self-reliant young lady finding that not all men are the same, and a young man finding out that for some women love and family is all that they will ever want. Not all men and women will take advantage and leave when everything that someone could give is gone from them.
