In my opinion this is a GREAT!, conclusion to the Six Assassins Series. I predicted chaos and mayhem for this one in my review of Vendetta Target. Well you get blood, chaos, action and suspense. I predicted that there would be few survivors if any of DAC. I will not give it away you must read to find out. There were some twist I did not see coming, so WELL DONE Jim Heskett and Nick Thacker, this does not happen often. Sometimes I felt things were a little strung out, but I got over it. I loved Ember’s never give up attitude. I personally loved this book and found it a fitting conclusion. I read on Kindle Unlimited.
It all comes down to this. Ember has survived despite being a target for the last five weeks. Will she be able to fend off her last club assassin contract…..her own club?
This series has kept me reading and wondering how it would all wind up. I really didn’t want it to end but at the same time I couldn’t wait to see how it would end.
Nick and Jim have done an awesome job with this series. If Ember survives I hope they will keep her escapades going with a new series cause after all she was FBI. But then again, maybe this will be her end in which case, the writers will have to figure out a new heroine to take her place. I can’t wait to see what they do!
I received this book as a free advanced reader copy but the review opinions are my own.
Final Target – a review by Rosemary Kenny
Woe is me! The end has come and Ember Clarke is finally free to have a (roughly) normal HEA, which is nice for her and her inamorata Zack, but terrible for the rest of us, who have been cheering our girl on for the last six weeks of the nail-bitingly, screamingly tense and outstandingly brilliant 6 Assassins series, from the amazing Jim Heskett (and mostly his partner in creating Ember & co in these awesome novels, the great Nick Thacker), of which Final Target is sadly, as the title says, the last for now of Ember Clarke’s adventures in espionage.
The villains are satisfyingly dispatched, the heroes (for the most part – R.I.P. Gabe and Isabel), are battered and triumphant, now that what’s left of the DAC, is rid of the treachery at its core and Justice has been taught a salutary lesson at the FBI’s seat of power.
Ember, Zack, Layne and Serena will live to love and/or fight another day, but never forgetting their friends and the innocent – or maybe not so guiltless – lives lost, such as Ember’s younger brother, Fagan, Naomi etc al.
A special and successful conclusion for Jim Heskett’s Final Target, wraps up the series that you’ll be so glad you chose, to get you through the tough times of the Covid-19 pandemic and your Lockdown Blues.
Deserving far more than merely 5 stars, you should definitely treat yourself to the whole 6 Assassins series… which would make a great Father’s Day gift by the way…and make sure to do your friends a favour, by spreading the word!
Hopefully more books about Ember are to follow eventually – after all, you can’t keep a good (ex?) assassin/FBI girl down!
It’s up to you Messrs. Heskett and Thacker – your fans await your decision!
I received a review copy from the author at my request and this is my honest opinion. What a rollercoaster of a ride!! The action and the hits just kept coming in this one. Ember has been through the wringer and back but continues to be her indomitable self. There is more action than the reader knows what to do with and I found myself needing a break every once in a while to catch my breath. Only it had to be a short break because I had to see what happened next.
This has been an amazing series and one I have thoroughly enjoyed. I almost hated to see it end because I have bonded with Ember and the people in her life. Plus, getting to see Layne and Serena (from Mr. Heckett’s Layne Parrish series) is always a plus. I can’t wait to see what these authors have up their sleeves next. I’m sure that it will be amazing, as always. Be sure and check out this series. It is well worth your time.
The book you’ve been waiting for since the series began back in February. Final Target (Six Assassins #6), my thirty-fifth read from author Jim Heskett and the conclusion of the series. Another excellent read that you can’t wait to turn the next page and read more. The suspense has been building for five books and now the (very worthy) conclusion. I was given a Kindle copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
“Next stop for you is hell” ~~Layne Parrish
I had to face a blank page for quite some time before I could start this review. I don’t want to ruin the book for anybody, but the truth is if you’re to this book, then you’ve already read the rest of the series–or you should have. This really does have to be read in order. I can’t emphasize that enough. This book will be a mess to you if you haven’t. Don’t expect to start on Book 6 and hope to get the whole story. It ain’t gonna happen. Too much happens in the previous installments and the story cumulates to one great, big ending.
I’d barely started reading page 14 and I had my first WTF moment. From there, I just got more and more of them. From the first book, I was involved with the characters and got more than a few surprises when certain characters showed up from other novels and other series. I was shocked when I found out who the mystery character in this book was. It was the last person I would’ve expected, but it made perfect sense. There was a score to settle, after all.
Out of all the trials that Ember Clarke had gone through, this one was the worst. She’d already lost so much in the past six weeks and some of it was personal. I think this one was worse than Gabe and losing him was hard on her. I didn’t know how much more she could take and after reading over twenty books by this author, I know it isn’t unusual for him to kill main characters. I didn’t know who was going to make it and who wasn’t until the end of the book. It added to the suspense and kept me turning the pages. I won’t say who survived and who didn’t. What I will say is this whole thing was sh*t storm with surprises and twists on every level.
I do want to address Naomi, though. I got a bad vibe from her at first. There was something off about her from the very beginning, but I had no idea it was THAT! I was stunned with her part in all of this. She was a rather sleepy character from the first book, but she packed a punch and was loyal to just one person who wasn’t worth her time or energy. I was sad for her in that respect, but I guess that’s what happens when you put your faith in a misguided, greedy, selfish, arrogant crustacean.
This book is a mover and a shaker with plenty of shock and awe, action, and a tightly wound plot that sprung at the last minute. It kept me at the edge of my seat and even though this is the last book of the series, I do hope to see more of the surviving characters in future novels.
*I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.
This was a great series. Each book covered one week of her trial by combat which made you look for the next book to see how our girl was going to hold up. Even if there was some closure for each book the final story ties up the loose ends and question marks. Everything falls into place. I can’t say too much without giving away the story but you will have a lot of action and twists that will make it hard to put it down.
I loved this entire series. A strong, smart and beautiful heroine with an interesting and varied supporting cast and a couple of villains you just love to hate, it’s been a treat for action literature fans from the first book until this explosive ending.
The final episode in the Ember Clarke saga is chock full of non-stop action that makes it almost impossible to put down. All of the ongoing plot lines come together with everybody looking to get their piece of the young assassin.
This is a series I’m really sorry to say goodbye to.
