“You don’t have to fight the world alone. You’ve got me.”
Travis Dayton, a.k.a. Truck, is focused on two things: settling into his position at the Coast Guard Academy and helping his younger brother stay out of trouble. So even though the beautiful, comic loving Jersey Banner is tugging at his heart strings in funny ways, he isn’t going to act on those emotions. Not when he’ll eventually be … those emotions. Not when he’ll eventually be moving on, and she’ll be staying behind.
Jersey has been struggling to keep her family afloat ever since their dad went to jail. The pain she feels on a regular basis? It isn’t anything she can stop to think about. At least not, until she ends up at the emergency room in the protective arms of the one man who makes her pulse beat faster than the superheroes she worships.
When Jersey finds herself in desperate need of medical care that she can’t afford, Truck does the only thing he can to help… he marries her.
When chaos invades their lives, their temporary deal starts to crumble. Hearts and souls are twined together, so that there’s little chance of escape without permanent damage. Unless, they just surrender to it all and let love heal them both.
From award-winning author, LJ Evans, comes a novel inspired by Lady Antebellum’s “Ocean” about resilience and love. You don’t want to miss this small town, military romance.
Author’s Note: Protective, noble Coast Guard. Nerdy, comic loving heroine. Heart tugging words and slow, simmering attraction. Fake marriage, broken promises, and happiness you’ll feel in your bones.
“Love is the only real superpower.”

This is a story of a Coast Guard officer and a beautiful blond who meet and have a marriage of convenience, but that’s not the whole story. This story is about two brothers and two sisters who meet. A man who sees a woman who needs him and he just wants to help. A woman who doesn’t trust anyone, but knows her goal is to protect her sister above all. That’s funny, because that’s exactly how he feels about his brother. This story is about watching them figure out that they can all find happiness.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I enjoyed the book and the themes and lessons it highlights. I sometimes felt a bit frustrated by Jersey and her “hiding”, but other than that, I thought there was a good amount of chemistry and dialogue between the 2 of them. I also loved the side characters and the funny conversations. Truck and Jersey agree to a fake marriage in order to help her get medical insurance. As she learns to accept help, they both realize they are more similar than they thought.
Avenged by Love is just one of those stories with sweet, subtle prose and an endearing romance. It has real life situations that are easy to connect with and two people with so much in common and so much responsibility weighing on their shoulders it seems quite unfair. Travis “Truck” Dayton and Jersey Banner are both caregivers, putting others before themselves, sacrificing their happiness so that those they love most can have it instead. Their growing feelings and realizations about each other manifested into slow burn.
Travis is such a good guy. Kind heart, superhero complex, and utterly handsome in his uniform. He’s very perceptive too. I loved how he wanted to do the right thing, but not step on anyone’s toes.
Jersey is so guilt ridden for things that aren’t her fault. I was absolutely frustrated with her that she couldn’t see she deserves happiness too. I wanted more for her. I wanted her to realize she deserved it. I hated that life could be so hard for some people. I think those feelings are the mom in me.
Ms. Evans has created, in the Anchor series, a group of friends that are family in the truest sense. Each story is its own lovely escape. Her ability to tie in music with an awesome playlist is a bonus. Avenged by Love is another great addition to the series. I can’t wait to get the next couple.
I was given an advance copy of this book for an honest review. Right away I completely fell in love with these characters! They were so unique, quirky and REAL. Truck & Jersey have riveting backstories, loads of guilt and both are caring for their younger siblings. It was clear that Truck & Jersey should be together. Their romance is beautiful and heart tugging. Their hearts knew it, yet both had a lot to overcome, including their marriage contract for Jersey to have medical insurance. As one who has suffered from endometriosis for many years, I could honestly relate to Jersey’s health struggles. And the ending . . . *muffled squealing* Yeah, I can’t talk about it because of spoilers, but it was so fabulous and perfect! LJ Evans, once again, writes a beautiful story that just grabs my heart, squeezes & will not let go. It hit me straight in my feels and had me laughing, crying, mad, and swooning all at the same time. I can’t wait to read the next installment of this series.
This story was right up my ally. I loved how even though two people can be very differnt they can have some simlar traits. This story will take you on a ride around the small town, and how people can overcome how a small town might feel about them.
This story will give you all the feels. The happy the sad, even the fustratred and wanting to yell at characters to do what you think as a reader they should do.
Trust the author to know where the story is going to take you. It will be a bumpy and sometimes sweaty ride but it will not dissappoint you.
Avenged by Love (Anchor Series # 3) is a military romance with lots of heart and soul. The characters are compelling and well evolved. Jersey Banner and Travis, a.ka. Truck Dayton will strike a chord with you as they sail through their journey to get a hea. Looking forward to reading what’s next in this series.
Every time I read one of LJ Evans’s books, it becomes my favorite. This one was no different, except it happened faster! From the very first chapter, I was totally invested in Truck and Jersey’s story. They both were carrying so much responsibility for such young people. Jersey also had some physical issues happening that were very relate able. Truck is a caretaker through and through. My heart broke for them, until they found each other. I am already looking forward to more in this series!
