From the blockbuster New York Times bestselling author Lisa Kleypas comes Mine Till Midnight, the first title in the beloved regency romance series The Hathaways When an unexpected inheritance elevates her family to the ranks of the aristocracy, Amelia Hathaway discovers that tending to her younger sisters and wayward brother was easy compared to navigating the intricacies of the ton. Even more … intricacies of the ton. Even more challenging: the attraction she feels for the tall, dark, and dangerously handsome Cam Rohan.
Wealthy beyond most men’s dreams, Cam has tired of society’s petty restrictions and longs to return to his “uncivilized” Gypsy roots. When the delectable Amelia appeals to him for help, he intends to offer only friendship–but intentions are no match for the desire that blindsides them both. But can a man who spurns tradition be tempted into that most time-honored arrangement: marriage? Life in London society is about to get a whole lot hotter.

Although I have reread this book many times and it remains one of my very favorite books ever written, it never fails to evoke emotion and affirm the reason why I love historical romance. The characters are well developed, emotional and intertwined in such a way that you can’t help but fall in love right along side them. Cam is a handsome and witty hero who definitely stole my heart! Lisa Kleypas is a master at her craft and this book shouldn’t be missed!
Love Lisa Kleypas and this tale of an unlikely union between two opposites is delightful!
The Hathaways is the kind of loud spontaneous family that is hard not to fall in love with. I liked each and every one of them, even Amelia who at times really got on my nerves. Cam Rohan was the kind of hero who you wanted to save you – roguishly handsome, steadfast and very very rich. Lets not beat about the bush, the Hathaways were one step away from the poorhouse… but they never lacked in spirit and good natured humor. The subtle romantic air around Win and Merripen was oh so sad but lovely. The sisters, Poppy and Beatrix, were sweet and easy to relate to with problems of their own. Leo, oh my Leo. He was so stubborn and so tortured. I hurt for him so much.
The story was steadily paced with lots of humorous situations that were simply priceless:
“We have a ballroom!” Poppy exclaimed.
“We have deer!” Beatrix said gleefully.
Leo settled deeper into his corner. “God, I hope we have a privy.” (cracked me up so much)
There were so many tender and passionate moments as well as those where one could weep for the family and all they have endured. Cam was the best of men for Amelia. I think they met when they both needed each other the most and didn’t even know it. Those words whispered in Romany language were so s*exy and romantic. The ending was the best – a promise for the family to have the future they want and deserve. I will definitely continue with the series.
Delightful and enjoyable story.
Romance Underdeveloped Due To Busy Plot – 2.5 Stars
This story drove home how much Amelia had on her plate, but it was almost to the exclusion of her relationship with Cam. There were romantic moments, but the romance itself lacked depth. Amelia and Cam were so involved with the predicaments surrounding her family, there was little focus on their connection, other than attraction. It was an ok book overall, but the Wallflower and Ravanels series books were much better.
I just discovered this author and her novels in 2020. I love all her books, however this wasn’t my favorite. The plot didn’t go as fast pace as most her novels do. That being said it was still a really good book. The characters engaging. The plot well written romantic and steamy. Overall a great read!
I love all her books and her writing style. The Hathaways are so wonderful. She did a great job with this series. This is the first of the Hathaways and you have to just love Cam and how he takes on his very interesting family.
I haven’t read a Lisa Kleypas book I didn’t love!
Though it took me a while to get to this series (it’s been in my TBR for a long time ), I’m happy to say Lisa Kleypas has once again reigned supreme as a historical romance author . As this series took place after the Wallflowers, I’m delighted to meet my beloved characters again, Lilian and Marcus, Evie and Sebastian, and their continued HEAs with their adorable daughters are some of my favorite scenes in this book .
Each Hathaway sibling has their own faults and eccentricities, yet they love and support each other, helping one another go through life challenges after losing their parents. Amelia Hathaway is the second sibling and eldest girl in the family. After her older brother Leo inherited the viscountcy, yet never seemed to be around physically and emotionally, Amelia devoted all her time and energies in creating a home for her siblings and took it upon herself to take care of every problem, every disaster. I could feel her heavy burden, her self-consciousness that she must be strong for her family, and the inner strength she possessed in order to pull them together. Those shaped her personality into somewhat a control freak , a proud and stubborn woman, and that frustrated me a bit at some point. But I’m glad she let go slowly to share her responsibilities with Cam and build a foundation for their relationship.
We’ve already met Cam Rohan in Devil in Winter. Here I love his relationship with his boss Sebastian (I laughed out loud when they discussed about his sexual habits .) Being half Gypsy, he always yearned for a nomadic lifestyle he had experienced during his childhood, while facing the daily prejudice the society cast upon his people. He was a genius with numbers with great working ethics and “good-luck curse” , and he was especially loyal! I love that he was willing to sacrifice his wanderer nature for Amelia, taking a chance to have a rooted life with her, going above and beyond to help share her family burden, and simply just being a strong shoulder for her to cry on! If that’s not swoon-worthy, I don’t know what is !
It’s a true Lisa Kleypas masterpiece. It made me laugh , cry , swoon , fan myself , and every emotion in between. The storyline was so captivating with surprising events slowly unfolded that kept me on reading. This is indeed a promising beginning of a fantastic series , and I’m looking forward to reading the story of the next Hathaway sibling!
4.5 read for me!
Swoony.
I loved this novel. I am a die hard Lisa Kleypas fan and she did not disappoint with this novel. This novel is the first in the series that is a spin off of the Wallflower series. She did a wonderful job of developing the characters in this story. It was funny and witty along with romantic and heartwarming. I enjoyed this novel and have read it more than once.
Mine Till Midnight was an awesome read! It was a great way to kick off a new series and an excellent spin-off from the Wallflowers series. I loved Cam so much. He and Amelia were so great together and I loved the ends and outs of them finding their happily ever after. It’s not to be missed!
MINE TILL MIDNIGHT is a standalone read with a HEA. Back in 2011 this was my first story by Ms. Kleypas. It started me on a journey that wound up with 32 of her books. All it took was one and then I went right on to the next one. I love this writer.
All the stories are great reads. Historical novels set in London it takes you back in time to what things were really like. The TON seemed to run everything and everyone wanted to be a part of that elite group. If you had money, you could be the talk of the town. Most marriages were for money and not for LOVE. However, all of the heroines find love in her stories. I really love this author and definitely recommend her books. All of them got a 5 from me in the review section.
I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 7/31/19
Lisa, you out did yourself again. This book swept me away into the world oh the Hathaways and Roma. Cam Rohan, oh how I wish I could find someone exactly like him. Excellent writing. Loved the book.
There is so much to love about the Hathaway series. The characters are thoughtful and lovable. There’s wit and charm and amazing steamy scenes. Each Hathaway is unique and you can see them develop throughout the series. I recommend this series every chance I get.
addictive-series, historical-romance, historical-research, history-and-culture, happy-ending
I loved it in paperback, I loved it while multitasking, and now I still love it while knitting. I remember researching the lore and persecutions of the Rom (even the Nazis) the first time I read it and learned a lot. An excellent romance complete with fantasy, danger, suspense, and a family like no other!
Narrator extraordinaire Rosalyn Landor adds to the enjoyment.
When it comes to historical romance I am very picky. Over the years I have found that a lot of HR will have cheating and mistresses in their books. So much so that I quit reading HR books until I discovered Goodreads and was able to see spoilers and make sure there would be no cheating in that book. I was craving some HR and a friend said to try Lisa Kleypas that they loved her. So when I was out book shopping I found the whole Hathaway Series for 4.00, bought it and here we are. My first taste of Lisa Kleypas and I loved it. I really enjoyed her writing style. I connected and fell in love with all the characters including the secondary characters which just makes me want to read all their HEAs. Mine Till Midnight, the first book in the Hathaway series, was an awesome read that did a great job of hooking me. So much so that I didn’t want to stop and write a review I wanted to rush and start Winnifred and Merripen’s story.
The heroine in this book Amelia was 26 which made her a spinster. After being burnt by her ex love ( her brother’s ex bf Christopher Frost) She had no desire to get married and just wanted to take care of her sisters and brother. Her brother Leo the oldest of the Hathaways, and newly titled viscount was in self destruction mode and suicidal over the death of his fiancee Laura. Amelia being the second oldest was trying to hold the family together and save her brother. Amelia was stubborn, smart and acted like a mother hen. She tried to control things and took all the family’s problems (which were many) on her shoulders. Though she really wanted Cam she held him at arms length because she was worried that he would leave her like her ex or resent her for his lost of freedom. I really liked Amelia and could understand where she was coming from. I didn’t fault her for holding Cam off although at times I did get frustrated with her. I did however take a star off of my rating of this book because of something she did. After her and Cam have slept together and Cam had repeatedly asked her to marry him (at this point she was still saying no to him about marriage) Cam leaves for London to get some workers for her home. While gone a bunch of crap happens and she is super upset and stressed, her ex Christopher shows up. She talks to him in which he kisses her twice! No she doesn’t kiss him back, shocked she just stands there caught off guard but and here is the part that ticked me off she didn’t tell him to never touch her again or slap him. Nothing! Then she doesn’t’ tell Cam about the two kisses although he does find out about her talking alone with Christopher.
Cam was amazing. I loved him so much. Cam was half Roma Gypsy /half Irish. He was an outcast in both worlds. He wanted for so long to fit in and be Roma and longed for the freedom of the Gypsy lifestyle that he was scared of his deep feelings for Amelia. Cam was really the best of both worlds civilized, hard working, loyal but he knew how to have fun he had a wild side and could be dangerous when needed. Cam was very charming. He wanted Amelia as his wife and he wasn’t taking no for an answer. Cam was a rock for Amelia. Helping her with her family problems and just being there for her. He got her to live a little, to let go.
Cam and Amelia’s relationship was a passionate one. Total opposites they complemented each other nicely, but also butted heads too. Which usually ended with them in bed. I really liked all of Amelia’s sisters. Each had unique personalities that made them stand out as individuals. I loved Merripen was intrigued with him and Winnifred love story which is next. Leo was a sad case. My heart broke for him and in the same breathe I wanted to shake him. I understood that he was in so much pain over losing Laura, but the things he did, the way he was reckless made me want to shake him and yell snap the hell out of it. I loved just about everything in this book and I really can’t wait to start Win and Merripen’s book. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves historical romances.
When her brother unexpectedly inherits a viscountcy, Amelia Hathaway quickly learns that keeping after her brother and three younger sisters was nothing compared to managing aristocratic idiosyncrasies. An even bigger challenge still is figuring out what to do with her attraction to their new neighbor’s dear friend, the dangerously handsome Cam Rohan.
Born to a Romani mother and an Irish father, Cam has never felt as if he truly belonged anywhere. He has become wealthier than most men would ever dream of being, but he chafes at the confines of society’s strictures and longs for the freedom of his childhood with the Roma. When lovely Amelia asks for his help, Cam intends to merely be her friend, but they are both unprepared for the blazing attraction that flares between them. For as much as he spurns societal conventions, Cam finds himself wanting all the traditional commitments with Amelia, if he can just convince her she needs him too.
This audio revisit held up well to my memory of the first time I read this book. I still adore Cam as a hero and he still serves as a measuring standard for a good hero in my mind. I certainly still identified with Amelia’s practical nature and her need to be in control and managing things. She was so used to having to step up and care for her family, it was lovely to see Cam jump in with both feet and take up the reins for her, even if she was resistant to accepting his help at first. I’m still thoroughly charmed by how Cam stepped up and made himself invaluable to Amelia, giving her the opportunity to relax a bit and share her burdens with someone who would be a true partner and making their connection unassailable. I think that partnership is what we all strive for in our relationships and I loved reading it. This still remains one of my favorite books.
