Escaping the academy was just the beginning.I’ve made it out of Nocturnal Academy. No longer do I exist to please the vamps. Now, as a member of the Winter Court, my job is to execute them. But maybe my new standing is no better than being a courtesan. Now I am to become an assassin for the King of the Winter Court. The rules of the game might’ve changed, but I’m still a pawn.If the King of the … pawn.
If the King of the Winter Court thinks that I’m going to turn into a mindless soldier after everything I’ve been through, he’s in for a rude awakening. I’m going to do this on my terms while keeping a wall around my heart at all times.
I will not be vulnerable again.
Life, however, has other ideas. Like throwing in a friend from my past and worse, Thorsten, a handsome jerk of a vampire who has messed with my mind and feelings one too many times.
I might’ve left Nocturnal Academy, but I’m far from safe.
Enter a magical world where a half fae will fight for her voice to be heard!

Savage Monarchs, Nocturnal Academy Book 3 by Margo Ryerkerk is an amazing story that I have had the privilege to read. This is book number three in this amazing series. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about fantasy and paranormal romances.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A very well written conclusion to this portion of these characters lives! A battle of royals ensue and I finally get a clear picture (or less murky in some cases) of who stands with who. But the endgame is still uncertain making a perfect lead to the next phase of this ongoing tale, which I love! I really did get hooked into this storyline and most certainly will see if the next phase reads as good as these four did! All my reviews are always voluntarily written.
Out of the frying pan and into the fire! That’s what happens to Onyx. Although she’s free from Nocturnal Academy, she soon realizes that she’s traded one form of slavery for another. As the Princess of the Winter Court she has to pledge her allegiance to her father the King, essentially becoming a pawn in his political machinations, with the promise of exacting vengeance from Lord Vulthus. But Onyx has a mind of her own, and she’ll try to do as much good as she can.
This third book in the Nocturnal Academy is as action-packed and engrossing as the previous books. Dark, angsty, suspensful, the book ends in HFN note, with Onyx and Thorsten finally free to be together. I can’t wait to see what the dynamic duo of authors has in store for the future!!!

Loved the storyline and loved the characters. Both are interesting and draw you in. This has been a great series that I recommend reading.

Poor Onyx, things always seem to want to make it harder for her in Margo Ryerkerk and Holly Hook’s Nocturnal Academy series. Even breaking out of the Academy only leads to a different sort of shackled in Savage Monarchs (Book 3). Since this is “all about me”, however, I will take poor Onyx’s troubles as a good thing since reading about what she goes through and how she tries to deal with it all sure is a pleasure. While truly a dark fantasy, this really was a fantastic book with wonderfully imaginative world-building, superb cast and perfectly executed plot. Highly recommended.
Onyx’s fight for her freedom is not over. She may have escaped one master but has a new master with his own desire to control.
I have really enjoyed the series. It has a darkness that really resonates and you feel the oppression she has faced. I love her strength and her plotting to get her freedom always takes some dangerous risks.
I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.
A wonderful story to read.
This is a great story as we see Onyx as she’s grown into a strong woman. She has learned to trust and see who will use her for their own reasons. She’s grown and it was a great journey to see. It was a great storyline and intriguing characters. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This is an interesting read that will have you turning pages to find out what happens next! Onyx feels safe and living with her dad, King Olwen of the winter court. But…..is she really safe? She’s honing her magic and training to be a warrior with the end goal of killing Vulthus. Only, does Onyx have a choice in who she goes after to kill? All she wanted was to be free to do as she liked, is that even possible? To complicate things, an old enemy, Petra, is now free from the Academy dungeons and looking for revenge. Will Onyx survive? This book has action, danger, suspense, vampires, Fae, warrior training, magic, romance, revenge and twists and turns.
After that humdinger of a cliffhanger in the last book, this one definitely lived up to the hype. Onyx awakens temporarily confused in a luxurious bedroom that she’s not acquainted with. Moments later it all comes back to her; her FATHER is the King of the Winter Court!! Ever hear if something is too good to be true? Yup the same applies here. She might be safe temporarily, but Onyx quickly figured out that daddy dearest is using her for his own gain. Fine…. Two can play at this. While gaining much needed warrior skills and Intel on the enemy who purchased her, plus learning more about her sperm donor, Onyx bides her time to become stronger in every way. Who are friends, and who are foe? If she thought there were secrets, political intrigue and deceit around every corner at the Academy… That was child’s play. As usual she’s fighting for her life and that if those she holds dear. My bet is on Onyx running circles around daddy dearest and that evil jerk who purchased her at the academy. And it wouldn’t be a true book in the series without a few shockers thrown in! Never a dull moment that’s for certain!
Revenge so sweet!! Onyx is free of the academy and her father, the Winter Fae King is keeping her hidden but he has an agenda. He is turning her into a warrior, a machine to do his dirty work. But can she really trust him. She has no fatherly feelings towards him as he doesn’t seem to have any feelings towards her or her mother. He is distant and only out for revenge on the Summer Fae and the vampires. Will she ever get her revenge on Vulthus and save her fae friends who have become slaves to vampires? And what about Thorsten? Is he friend or foe? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Onyx has finally escaped Nocturnal Academy and the Vampire Lord Gregory Vulthus. After meeting her father, King Olwen Vinter of the winter court, she begins training to become a winter fae warrior and seek revenge against Lord Vulthus. This awesome tale full of action, danger, suspense and little romance will have you on the edge of your seat. I was hooked from the very beginning. I love the characters and the forbidden romance of fae and vampire. It’s a highly addictive read. I received a free advanced copy of this amazing book and enjoyed every moment. This book is definitely worth reading and I look forward to reading more from these authors.
Savage Monarchs is the third book in the Nocturnal academy by Holly Hook and Margo Ryerkerk. I really enjoyed this book and could barely put it down.
Onyx as finally escaped Nocturnal Academy just to be kidnapped (or save in a way) by the King of the Winter court who is her father. She now not exist to serve the vampires but the execute them and she’s being train to learn to control her power and to fight.
But her father might think she will serve him as a loyal and mindless princess warrior, he’s cannot be more wrong. With what she been through at the academy, she want freedom and be able to make the choice for herself.
Really like the relation between Onyx and Thorsten, her handsome vampire, and hope for them for think to change in their society where vamps and fae cannot be together.
I have received an arc of this book by Holly Hook.
Onyx has finally managed to escape the vamps and becoming a vampire slave to Vulthus. Onyx doesn’t get to taste freedom but for mere second before she is whisked away to the Fae Winter Court. The king of the Winter Court is claiming to be Onyx’s father but she is not sure if she trusts him or who she can trust at this point.
The king has offered her a chance to get back at Vulthus and the vamps for what they did to her but before she can obtain her revenge there is something she must do for the king n return and that is become his assassin with a few kills under her belt first of course.
The king gives Onyx the chance to train in combat and become stronger with the use of her magic for when the time comes for her to become his assassin and to kill Vulthus and extract her revenge.
Onyx has other plans for her life other than becoming an assassin for the king but she will play by his rules and do as he ask while biding her time and getting what she wants while making plans for her escape.
Savage Monarchs is a fast paced read that will keep you on the edge of your seat not being able to turn the pages fast enough hoping and rooting as Onyx turns the next corner to see what is waiting for her and to see how she is going to deal with it all. Onyx grows so much in the use of her magic becoming stronger and better.
I love this world in the Nocturnal Academy that the authors have created for Onyx and Thorsten her gorgeous vampire friend. I can’t wait to read more in this world in future books full of vampires, fae and magic.
I highly recommend Savage Monarchs to all fans of vampires, Faes, kings and magic. One click yourself a copy today!
Powerful, Frustrating & Heartless!!
Savage Monarchs (Nocturnal Academy Book 3)
Onyx has been ‘Rescued/Kidnapped’ by her true Father – King Olwen Vinter of the Winter Court!! She feels quite bitter about him but he has an easy excuse for each of her angered queries. He promises to allow her vengeance on Vulthus, as long as she swears allegiance to him!
Thorsten can’t stop worrying about her. He doubts whether he ‘played’ it right with her by breaking her heart. He felt helpless to protect her & his Sire & thought he was doing the right thing thing at the time. He feels the need to find & help protect her now especially as Vulthus is on an absolute warpath to find her!!
Although this book isn’t set in Nocturnal Academy many of its students make appearances. I felt bad for most of them including Onyx because even though, on surface, she was safe & taken care of, she was just as hampered & imprisoned now as she was before. Plus she had to turn her heart off even more than before, which she truly suffered for!!
I really liked the world building this Author duo produced. I can’t help wishing, that between Thorsten & Onyx with their Vampire & Fae allies, that they could really start a revolution within both societies! I think between them they could find somewhere where free Fae & non prejudiced Vampires could live happily – and Crossbreed even. That would scare both the Fae & Vamps!! Unfortunately that didn’t happen – yet!?!
This was a really different, gripping & compelling series. Its one that I highly recommend!
