Book 1 of 3
The smallest towns have the darkest secrets…
When Carrie’s son, Cal, vanished from the Cornish town of Devil’s Cove, she thought she’d lost him for good. Seven years later, a teenager has been found washed up on the beach.
It’s Carrie’s son. And he’s alive.
No longer the sweet boy she remembers, Cal is deeply troubled, wildly unpredictable, and a growing danger to everyone … unpredictable, and a growing danger to everyone around him.
Now, Carrie must unravel the mystery of what happened to her son before it’s too late. Because a serial killer is stalking the streets of Devil’s Cove.
And another young child is missing…
Set against the wild backdrop of Cornwall, The Cove is the first part of a nail-biting trilogy about a mother’s fight to save her son from the grip of evil.

Can children be safe in The Cove which is scenic and an ideal place for families? Not with a dangerous predator lurking around whose main aim is to turn innocent children into soulless monsters. Unnerving and gutwrenching, this book gave me an adrenaline rush.
Boring, very slow start. I lost interest and finally quit trying to read it.
Intense, fast paced looking forward to reading the rest of the series
Loved this book
Very suspenseful once you get into the action part of it. Well written with almost no errors that I could see. Interesting characters who are a bit too well spoken but the book would not be as great if they spoke differently.
A nice light read.
Creepy, disturbing abuse of kids, part one of trilogy – won’t be reading part 2!
It was a good book that kept my interest. Didn’t care so much for the ending.
This is the first in a continuing series about a small seaside village Porth an Jowl. A nice little British resort community that has fallen on hard times. It doesn’t help when a second lad goes missing in the place reporters refer to as Devils Cove, it helps sell papers but scares tourists off
Noah is the new missing lad. Gone for months and leaving his mom sedated, medicated and drunk. Her older son, Jago, comes back from university to care for her and find Noah.
Meanwhile a body appears on the beach and everyone assumes it’s Noah but it’s the new teenage version of Cal, missing for seven years. His mom, Cassie, has a newer husband and daughter but has never given up on finding Cal. How she deals with Cal just shows how deep a mom’s love really is.
The atmosphere of the cliffs, ocean, the small cottages, the pets, and the fear all come together as reporters descend for any bit of news or gossip. Scott is one spiteful reporter ready to bribe and lie for information and will be dealt with forcefully. Because if Cal was back, why, and was he taken by someone in the area?
Nat and Jago impressed me as the older teens had been dealt harsh blows in life but were still fighting the good fight and watch out for each other.
There is a scene with a cage, it really shocked me when I realized what it meantt. There are some really creepy parts, not for the faint hearted as pets go missing and the reality of what Cal and Noah went through comes out.
This book doesn’t end up all happy and you have to continue the series to see about Cassie and her son Cal.
If you live thrillers or creepy suspense, you’ll
want to add this book. Be aware you need to read the next book and maybe a third to find out more on Cal. I admit it was addictive, couldn’t put it down but not my type of read and I dislike endings that never end. 3.9 stars
Don’t start this late at night or plan to stay up.
Great 1rst book of the trilogy. Can’t wait to see what happens next!
This story kept me in the edge of my seat from start to finish! Scary as hell but so well written that you just had to keep reading. The first in what is going to be an excellent series.
Scary
You CAN judge a book by its cover! Almost passed on this book. The synopsis doesn’t do it justice, but the beautiful haunting cover lured me and I was drawn into the story immediately. It was suspenseful, unique and perfectly paced. The description of the characters was excellent, and the coastal setting was perfect. The ending was strange with an important part left unresolved, leaving me questioning if I will still be interested enough to read book 2 by the time it is published.
Loved this book! Can’t wait for book two to come out. This author is wonderful.
This story is down right chilling. A child disappears and seven years later shows up shortly after another one goes missing. OK anything with kids and I am done immediately but this author takes it another step. The twist and turns and all that he feeds into the story reaches out and wraps it’s slimy hands around you and hooks you like a fish. Then he has the nerve the absolute gall to do another twist at the end and leave us to ponder.
Excellent read that just floored me. I am so glad I had the chance to read it and be warned there is a cliff hanger but dang it I don’t care I want more of this writer and his characters.
