In my whole career as a bookworm, there are so many places that I’ve always longed to go to. Top of my list is Green Valley, Tennessee. One of the top places in Green Valley that I just want to sit in & be part of is Daisy’s Nut House. So when I saw that we were finally going to get Daisy & Trevor’s story I was over the moon!!
This was just an amazing book! I loved getting to see how these two had to work to make each other a priority in their lives. They both had plans, and falling in love wasn’t one of them. I also loved their friends! It’s not often that you fall in love with the secondary characters like you do with the main characters, but Chelsie made it happen!!
Chelsie blew me away with this book. I’m honestly in shock that this is her first one because the way she wrote was just amazing. She gave me all the feels and I just felt like I was part of the story. I’m so excited to see what she creates next! LOVED IT SO MUCH!
Ooooo, a new Smartypants series! How exciting!
I love reading Smartypants books that give us a closer look at some of the peripheral characters in Penny Reid’s books. This book is a perfect example of that! Getting to know these characters was so interesting and fun for me.
Plus, I’m so excited that Smartypants Romance has started a “higher learning”/college series! College romance has always been a favourite type of romance read for me.
The writing, scene depictions, perspectives and emotions expressed throughout this book are all very well done. This story is so original and a truly great read.
There was a perfect balance between intense scenes, superbly depicted emotions and sweet moments between the two main characters. Trevor and Daisy are so adorable together! Seriously, they are
I couldn’t get enough of this book! Chelsie Edwards did a fantastic job! I sincerely hope that we get more smartypants books from her in the future!
I would highly recommend reading this book, especially if you have read Penny Reid’s Winston Brothers series and want to read a Smartypants book next. This is a great Smartypants book to start with! 10/10!
So, the cover >>>> #winning!! That’s the kind of cover you want on your book because not only did it pop out of me, but it fit the book like a glove!
Chelsie Edwards is going to be an author you are going to want to keep an eye out for. She is gifted. Her storytelling skill was unexpected. She’s a debut romance fiction writer from what I can gather so I was blindsided by the depth of character and plot in this story. The story is set in the 70s which I am sure most either know the cultural tone of the time or lived it. She pulled me into this story, and I felt like I was back in time walking thru it. I was immersed in the depth of the lives in this story and it was glorious. I didn’t just read a story, I experienced it, and there is no greater high for me as a reader than that! Well done!
If you have read any of Penny Reid’s Winston Brother’s Books or any of the Smartypants Romance books, you will know that Daisy’s Nut House is a common location for many of the events that occur in Green Valley. It is a common meeting place for many of the characters, and a favorite place to grab a bite to eat. Daisy and her children are often mentioned in many of the books. This was a sort of Daisy’s origin story, as we know Daisy the successful business owner from the other books she’s mentioned in, however this tells her story as a college freshman figuring out life and love.
This was such a refreshing read, it tells the story from Daisy and Trevor’s perspectives as they navigate various relationships with the people that are important to them as well as navigating their academics. While this is a romance, their relationship develops overtime, and they actually spend little time together as there are many obstacles keeping them apart. I appreciated that this was fairly clean and there was real substance to the story. I loved Daisy. She made decisions like an 18 year old trying to find her way in the world on her own, and she was held accountable when things didn’t go as planned. I really appreciated that her sister Dolly called her out when she messed up, but she also had the grace to forgive her once they talked it out. The same goes for Mr. Payton. Trevor and Julian had similar moments, they called each other out when they did something stupid, gave each other sound advice, and forgave each other when it was time. I’m a sucker for realistic life situations that have realistic conflict resolution. This in turn always leads to great character development and the plot moving along at a good pace. Edwards does a great job with all the characters, the side characters are as delightful as the main characters, the pace is good, and I loved how everything came together.
There were a few plot lines that were left unresolved, but I’m holding out hope that we’ll get more from Chelsie Edwards that tie up those loose ends. I really enjoyed her writing style and look forward to reading more about Daisy’s friends.
Highly entertaining, fun, emotional and action packed romantic journey filled with exciting and engaging charters, heart racing twists, emotional turns and thrilling passion. Was a great read from beginning to end and I really enjoyed the journey!
***4 Stars***
I have to admit that when I picked this book, I didn’t really read the description. I saw the title and thought it was cute, the author was a new to me one so I was curious and it was apart of the pennyverse and I’m all about the pennyverse. So when I finally did read, and comprehend, who the book was about, I was pleasantly surprised since Daisy, or at least Daisy’s Nut House, is a prominent and well loved piece of the Green Valley world and I was all in and found this book to a fun and quite emotional read filled with a cast of characters I really want to spend a lot more time with.
Daisy and Trevor. I loved these two, I did, but man did they try me. Both are sweet, compassionate and simply good people. They are driven, sometimes to the point of being blinded by what’s right in front of them, and though they have this vibe that welcomes you in, they also hold people at arm’s length. Their journey was all kinds of slow burn goodness. The bumps in their road were numerous, and quite frustrating, but I loved them together. They had this flow that made it easy to believe that they could have it all, if only they took their blinders off.
This was a fun read. The writing was engaging, I enjoyed the dual first person POV’s and I loved how the author brought the 70’s and Fisk university to life. She brought out that “simpler times” feel and yet showed that even in what many call the good ‘ol days, many of the same issues we are dealing with were alive and well at that time as well. My only issue was that there were times, especially in the beginning, where the pacing did drag for me, but things did pick up at about half way and I couldn’t put it down. As for the supporting cast of characters. All were very well written and I don’t have an absolute favorite of the bunch, but I’m totally looking forward to getting to know all of them a lot better as the series progresses.
