The gargoyles have always been guardians, they were created to protect the citadel and the surrounding area from vampires. When one of their own finds his fated mate some of the other gargoyles dream of finding their other half too. Petro has dreamed of not being alone anymore. Of having someone to share his life with and give it more meaning. When he finds a vampire while on patrol he has no … idea how much his life is about to change.
Keir is a vampire, he’s been alive longer than many of the gargoyles. But his existence has become a life of hiding during the day to avoid the sun, and avoiding people until he is forced to feed. A chance meeting changes that, and he’s forced to do the bidding of another ancient. Someone with more power over his will than anything he’s experienced before.
Fated mates and sworn enemies. A gargoyle and a vampire who will test the strength of their bond, and all it means to them.
more
Natural enemies can become friends. Petro, gargoyle longs for his mate. Keir, vampire just exists. He avoids everything until he needs to feed. Petro works for a group that protects the world from the Order of the Viata Eterna. The backstory of how the gargoyles came to existence is unique. Marius created the gargoyles to kill vampires and his enemies and feed his ego. Once Marius was defeated, Petro and his team were on clean up duty. Petro meets Keir during one of his reconaissance missions. He had dreamed of Keir before they met. He saw him and knew they were mates immediately. Their journey to get acquainted was bumpy, curvy with slight twists. Can Keir and Petro put aside their differences? Can they co-exist? Is Marius finally gone? Nice story. Will gargoyles and vampires ever get along? Nice story! I received an ARC from Booksprout and am volntarily leaving a review.
The Vampire and the Gargoyle (Audio review) Fantastic story. 4.5
Petro, a Gargoyle guarding the Citadel, has always dreamed of not being alone. He was wanting to share his life with someone, especially after Ankit finding his one.
Keir, a vampire, has spent all his life doing what his maker has ordered. He has been alive forever and has always fought against the Gargoyles until he met Petro.
Petro meets Keir, and he realises that Keir is his fated mate, but Keir will not hear of such a thing. He belongs to his ancient master who turned him and not some Gargoyle.
This series of books are different to anything I’ve ever read, and I’m thoroughly enjoying these books.
Well written, great world-building, solid characters and story — and a HEA.
The narration from Allen Jeffries was clear and easy to listen to. Although, I did find one of the voices grated on me. As usual, I sped up the audio, and I listened at 1.45 speed on audible, but I prefer all my audios to be quicker.

This is the second book in THE STONE SERIES!!! This is a FANTASTIC world of adventure and action. Petro is a gargoyle guardian protector. He is tough, but not deterred from change. Keir is a vampire. He has not completely lost all his humanity. He has been hiding out in the hills avoiding contact with others. Petro has sensed him before but chose to not investigate. When Keir is brought forth Petro can’t believe it’s his fated mate. The battles ahead are dire and fatal to some. More things are revealed about this hidden world and Jonna is once again there as watcher. This book is absolutely AMAZING!!! These books can be read as stand alones but Book #1 is FANTASTIC!! BL MAXWELL has created a realm I could have never imagined. I do love your perspective on gargoyles. I look at them differently. I’m getting ready to read the newest release Book #3 STONE HEARTS. I can’t wait to get started. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THIS AMAZING SURPRISING SERIES!!!!!!!!
In her incredible sequel, BL Maxwell pairs a gargoyle with a vampire as fated mates. This alone is challenging enough, given that vampires and gargoyles are sworn enemies. But the vampire Keir is still able to be influenced by his sire, a brutal so and so I simply must have a long talk with the author about! Lucky for Keir, his gargoyle Petro is a seer who had dreamed that his mate was a vampire. So the citadel’s directive to kill all vampires who pose a threat to humanity is tempered by Petro’s knowledge that fate has something truly wonderful for him. If only Keir’s vulnerability to his sire can be disrupted. Let’s face it, folks! I paced the floor and punched a few pillows listening to the audiobook. Beautifully narrated by Allen Jeffries, the characters of ‘Blood Beneath Stone’ came to life magnificently. This was extremely well done!
4.5 stars.. A great start to the book, this is book two of the series which I’d read as a standalone which works great.
I loved the refusal of Keir as he faught his bond with Pedro. Unable to believe they where fated mates he puts his own life is danger by the Watcher. Andreas must be stopped at all cost but Pedro life is in danger. I loved the Watcher in this she’s a smart lady not to be messed with. The humour parts in this was adorable mixed with the dramas made a great book. A beautiful ending. Written with both characters POVs.
Pedro was a gargole searching for vampires to destroy who followed Marius. He’d been having dreams of a vampire with the bluest of eyes and knew he had a mate.
Keir was a vamp and at the mercy of a gargole hearing they where fated and didn’t believe any of it.
Freedom
Petro surprises me. He’s so much more than I expected. He’s patient, understanding and so very kind. I imagine with his gift and who he is, he’s had so much time to become the wonderful being he is. Keir is delightfully stubborn and fights against the pull he feels towards Petro, which makes for some lovely tension. There are moments though in which I can see his humanity. He has a beautiful soul waiting to be freed.
“I am yours and you are mine.” Such simple but powerful words that change the course of a life. I am once again amazed at the strength of their bond and the depth of love they feel for each other. It makes me giddy and content at the same time. Unfortunately, someone else wants Keir in their life and they are canny and dangerous. It was painful watching Keir struggle. Luckily, our gargoyle and vampire have some powerful and loyal friends to help. If you’re looking for intense fights, selfless sacrifices, astounding bravery and passion along with indefatigable love, this book is for you.
When I started this series, intrigued by the gargoyles, I’d expected them to be some harda$$ed, stone hearted beings. And they are, particularly when they fight their enemies or when they defend their own, but I never expected them to be endearing softies, melted by the smallest smile from their mates.
Petro doesn’t care one bit that his mate Keir is a vampire. Having found his mate is such a precious gift, and he would do anything to keep Keir safe, even if it means giving all his blood or life. And he might need to, because Keir is under the control of a ruthless ancient vampire, one immensely powerful and hard to kill.
BL Maxwell has kept poor Petro and Keir mostly apart throughout the book. My heart fell for the guys, because a future together seemed almost impossible. Despite angelic help or the support of Petro’s brethren, I feared that only their ultimate sacrifice would rid the world of the ancient evil. So I was glued to the pages of , dreading the worst outcome of their quest and hoping for the best. Because they have lived millenia of loneliness, it’s hight time they would have the chance at many more of happiness.
Thrilling book,recommended.
