Sometimes God gives you a second chance because you’re not ready the first time.Spencer Conrad was the high school quarterback and Molly Price was his school assigned English tutor. What started out as a forced arrangement turned into a secret romantic connection which ends horribly wrong. Ten years later, Molly returns home with a college degree, established journalism career, and a hot, new … and a hot, new boyfriend. She wants to show everyone-especially Spencer-what a great life she has made for herself. Her 10-year high school reunion is the perfect place to do it. Molly also has a secret agenda. Set on revenge, she’s determined to prove Spencer is guilty of underhanded deals with the local district attorney rather than believe he has turned over a new leaf. But as Molly investigates, she’s shocked to find that Spencer isn’t what she remembered. He’s not the cocky (secretly scared) jock she once knew, he’s now a noble defense attorney, a volunteer at the local boys’ and girls’ club, and a deacon in the church.
When she runs into him at the local library, Spencer apologizes for what he did back in high school and tells Molly he would like to treat her to coffee to catch up. Worried his smoldering blue eyes and perfect dimples can still make her weak in the knees, she suggests a double date to keep him at arm’s length. Can she forgive what he did to her when they were young? Will he stand up to the people who used to bully her, and finally set the record straight? And will they both realize that the chemistry between them when they were kids still lingers just below the surface, ready to break free and be stronger than ever before?

Once again, Ms. Jenna Brandt has written a heart-warming story, one of second chances, with imperfect people, strong characters, and new beginnings. The story has the good, the bad, and even the ugly, but has a lesson of love and the coveted happily ever after ending. The story is a part of the Second Chance With You series but each story, written by various authors, are completely stand-alone and can be read in any order. The story is a clean, contemporary second chance romance, and while there is mention of God, His plan for us, and prayer, it isn’t preachy.
The story will bring Molly Price back to her hometown of Bayfield, Washington, a place she hasn’t been to in over ten years, along with her present boyfriend, Dr. Rick Colson. She is going to use the ten-year class reunion as a cover for returning, but she is actually there to research and investigative work of people for the online news she works for. It seems that Public Defender, Spencer Conrad, and the District Attorney may not be on the up and up and she is there to uncover their dirty dealings.
The story is full of flashbacks to their senior year in high school, where Spencer is the star quarterback and Molly is a nerd. His grades are failing, and the school wants her to help him with missing assignments to get his grades up—in other words, she is expected to take one for the team. Molly won’t do his work, and she stands up to him and his lackadaisical attitude. What neither one expected was to become friends and start seeing each other secretly. The flashbacks have their sweet side, but then the cruelty of some of the kids, especially the head cheerleader, Tiffany, will be a huge part of what causes Molly to leave in the middle of her senior year and move to Seattle.
Present day will find Molly shocked even to have her own parents singing the praises of Spencer and all the things he does that benefits others, like at church, or with Boys and Girls Club. There is no way he can be that good of a person, not the Spencer she remembers. Coming back to town will encounter many of those who were cruel to her, but just as many, if not more, that are friendly. Going to the class reunion will be an eye-opener too.
Will Molly find the dirt trail that will take down Spencer? Is this her chance to get revenge for the pain he caused her? What happens when old feelings are rekindled? When Molly attends church for the first time since she left during high school, will the message delivered be exactly what she needed to hear?
“God doesn’t expect us to get it right the first time. His grace allows us infinite do-overs. In that same way, we have to forgive one another and realize, sometimes, God gives us a second chance because we’re not ready the first time. Life doesn’t always go the way you planned. Getting hurt is part of life, but how you choose to deal with it is what matters.”
The story will allow for healing, forgiveness, and second chances. It is a reminder that God never leaves us but is always there when we turn back to him with open arms. It is part mystery/suspense, part redemption, and part new beginnings. It does have an intense scene. The story is a clean, contemporary second chance romance with only minor kissing scenes. It does end with a happily ever after ending.
Great second-chance novel. The plot was interesting, and the setting was nice.
The characters were great! I loved Molly from the beginning and couldn’t help but root for her. I was so upset when she was scorned and mocked! I literally wanted to jump into the story and rant at the cruel people.
Spencer was… interesting. To be honest, at the beginning of the novel I absolutely detested him. Even until just past halfway, I really disliked him. Not everybody would feel this way, but I just didn’t like how little he did to stand up for Molly. By the end of the book, I did finally like him.
Spencer and Molly are really cute together though. They compliment each other well. I loved the faith aspects as well.
The story flowed nicely and overall I enjoyed it!
I just couldn’t give it 5 stars because I disliked Spencer half the time.
RATING: 4 stars

3.5: On the line between good and ok
4: Solid story / worth reading
4.5: Close to perfection! / must read
5: I could not put it down and I’m still thinking about it!
I received a copy of this novel from the publisher. This has not affected my review which is my honest and unbiased opinion.
I love second chance romances and this one was a winner.
This author always puts great characters in a great plot.
I always look forward to reading her books.
This was a cute story that had a feel-good vibe to it. Molly is coming back to her hometown and meets up with the man that broke her heart. Molly was bullied so bad in school that she was sent away in the middle of her senior year of high school. Spencer is dealing with the guilt of not standing up for Molly when he was supposed to back in high school. I enjoyed the story, but at times I felt like too much was being put in the story to make it more realistic. I like how Molly and Spencer were forced to work together and had to fight their attraction to each other. I didn’t feel like there was much character development in the book. The mystery of who was causing the couple problems added to the story and helped keep my attention to find out how it ended. I would recommend to those that like sweet romance without much depth with a little mystery thrown in.
I received a copy of this book. This is my honest and voluntary opinion.
A good story that shows the affects of bullying can cause lasting damage and facing those who have hurt you and giving forgiveness when asked. When Molly comes home after 10 years and faces the boy who said he loved her but didn’t do anything to stop the bullying, and he asks for forgiveness and sets out to prove he is a much better prospect as a boyfriend than in the past she will tread carefully. Spencer will prove through faith, prayer and action he still loves her. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Sometimes you can have a second chance on love, on going back home, and perhaps finding your faith. This beautiful story has all that and more. Molly was hurt by Spencer at an early age now events have her coming back home. Will she see Spencer as he is now? Will fate again keep them apart? In this faith based story those questions are answered plus there are a few other twists to deal with. This is an excellent book that I highly recommend. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
This book was awesome! The characters were wonderful including the ones I disliked. The characters were so real to life. This story kept me smiling with each page. God gives us all second chances and this story was about God’s forgiveness and about coming back to him. This story was so beautifully written. The mystery and the romance kept the pages turning but the sweet message of Gods never ending love for us will keep this book forever in my mind!
Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
This is a wonderfully written story about second chances. This book grabs you on the first page and doesn’t let go. It is a clean christian book and I look forward to reading more books by this author. I highly recommend this book.
Molly and Spencer are wonderful characters.
I love the 2nd chance books.
Wonderful book.
Rekindled is a wonderful, clean, second chance romance from Jenna Brandt. Ten years after high school, Molly returns to her hometown for her 10 year reunion and with an undercover assignment. She was sent by her boss to get proof that Spencer is guilty of underhanded deals with the local district attorney. Ms. Brandt’s characters and small town “in your business” are very realistically presented. Will Molly get revenge or find love? I spent a lovely afternoon wrapped up in this drama!
I enjoyed the book. While reading the book, I was getting caught up in her past and today, I had to continue to read to get the rest of the story of what happened 10 years ago. The story goes back and forth – today and 10 years ago.
In a small town, a very popular football player has to bring his grades up to stay on the team. When he meets his tutor, he is expecting her to write his essays. With her encouragement, he learns to write his own essays. She later realized that he is very intelligent. They secretly begin dating. Then the head cheerleader, former girlfriend and her friends continue harassing her. It continues to the point that her parents move her out of town to finish her senior year. Of course, the football player doesn’t stand up for her. After finishing college she goes to work as a news reporter. Her boss has heard about the same man, now a public defender in her home town, and that he has been making deals with the district attorney. The boss assigns her the case. She hasn’t been back home for 10 years but a high school reunion gives her the excuse to go back home to investigate the public defender. She finds out that they are once again talking about her – viciously, once again. There are a few friendly people that are kind to her. Soon she reconnects with the public defender. And, yes, romantic feelings are still there between them. As she tries to find out about those rumors, she’s not sure about him. Once again the cheerleader and others are down on her. She tries to find proof for the rumors her boss had told her about him, while still being uncertain of her feelings. Can she trust herself or him every again or will the same thing happen that happened between them before. But first her mission is to her boss to prove that the public defendant is a bad lawyer.
5 stars
I purchased a copy of the short Christian romantic suspense Second Chance With You book 8:Rekindled by Jenna Brandt and this review was given freely.
A victim of bullying, journalist Molly returns to her hometown bent on uncovering a modern day scandal involving Spencer, the boy who did not stand up for her 10 years ago. An awkward high school reunion, a loving family, encouraging faith filled friends, a mystery, and a love that withstands trials make this an interesting and heartwarming story.
Faith-Filled Second Chance Romance
This faith-filled second chance romance is a contemporary love story that takes place in a small town in Washington State. The plot is interesting and not totally predictable. The characters are somewhat stereotypical. The mean girls are really mean, the nice girls are wimpy and the parents don’t know what to do. It is a pretty good story, not all that realistic, but entertaining. I received this book for free and this is my honest review.
A love that has been rekindled – two people, thrown together with a chance at love, again. Not only this, but a mystery that needs to be solved so that the two of them, Molly and Spencer, can have this second chance.
The have both changed over the years becoming responsible adults with a zest for life and Jenna Brandt shows you what they were like before and how they are now with a simple ease as she weaves her story backwards and forwards.
I really enjoyed this sweet romantic mystery and keen to recommend it, so enjoy!
An Advance Readers Copy was freely supplied and this is my volntary and unbiased review of it.
