My followers love wild rides, so that’s why I’m recommending they add Mike Faricy’s The Office to their list of must-reads. It is one in a series of hilarious crime fiction books about the bumbling but lovable detective, Dev Haskell. When Dev heads undercover in The Office, he ends up in trouble again caught between gangsters, crime lords, strippers, and Morton; the golden retriever. And gorgeous Sophie, Dev’s latest flame, has her hands full with his shenanigans. Dev Haskell books are always a scream but The Office, in particular, has more than its share of action-packed hilarity.
St. Paul’s top man in the underworld, Tubby Gustafson ‘persuades’ Dev Haskell to take a case from a certain individual that will call on him the next day. What’s a man to do after being strong armed? He takes the case but handles it in the opposite of what you might expect.
Meanwhile, in a total reversal of the norm, the St. Paul PD brings Dev on as a consultant that results in a hilarious comedy of errors. Lieutenant Aaron LaZelle, Dev’s long-time friend, and Lieutenant Manning, his long-time nemesis, play the time-honored tune of the police department in need of more men and more money with the latter not in sight.
As I’ve read this series, I have noticed that the cover reflects a main point in the story. Be sure to note the cover art on this one!
To fully appreciate the lovable character that is Devlin Haskell, you really need to start at the beginning. I do recommend that you read RUSSIAN ROULETTE and binge your way through the series. You get to meet the new characters, some of whom become regulars, marvel at Dev’s automotive horrors, and generally see the depth, or lack thereof, of our hero, Dev.
Mike Faricy writes some of the funniest detective yarns around. The Office carries on with Haskell’s bumbling methods and has all the elements such as his police friend Aaron, his office mate, and of course his nemesis Tubby Gufstason and his Muscle Fat Freddy. It all adds up to one heck of a great read.
None of the Dev Haskell books have disappointed me…except that I never wanted them to end. This one is right in there with them…with an original plot, outlandish characters and not a hint of making me think it was unbelievable, cause I knew it was written more for comedy entertainment than as a thriller. Laughed out loud so many times that I almost had to reread it!
I love all the Dev Haskell books. They are funny. Each book can stand-alone which makes me happy. I hate it when you have to buy the next installment to find out what happened. This series can be read in any order as the author is great to explain how each character fits with Dev.
