Zane is arrogant, stubborn, grumpy and not the nicest person to have around. One thing is how serious he took his role as older brother, protector of his younger siblings. His life was the farm and he wanted them close to the point of pouncing on them with guilt any chance he got. When tragedy strikes his anger and guilt is compounded and he lashes out at anyone he can. He even uses the anger and grumpy attitude to help get Ava moving when nothing else does. Yeah I didn’t like him much at first until I recognized his transference and realization that it was what Ava needed. He does finally show his softer side but keeps it as something special. Healing may be happening but communication isn’t. Love this author and even these characters, although Zane had to grow on me. Love Austin, he’s a breath of fresh air and the only one who seems to get through to Zane when needed. It’s an emotional tragic story of sacrifice and loss with flashbacks and memories of days gone by. Wonderful read.
The first book in the A McCord Family Novel series a well written action packed story that kept me turning pages. Zane McCord’s brother Jimmy died saving Ava Rainer his partner, their story starts out on a bad footing. I enjoyed seeing them get a happy ending. I want to read the next book. This is a new Author to me. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a well written book with strong characters and an emotional story line. The author does a great job building the story and moves it fluidly with her perfectly painted scenes. She brings a bit of mystery as well as the beautiful and heartbreaking story line and delivers a terrific read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
I bought this one a while ago and I’ve been meaning to read it as I’m a big fan of Siegrist. So I’m glad I could carve some time to read some of her earlier work that I hadn’t yet read.
Ava is a supervisor for the crime lab in NYC, and she considers herself one of the best crime scene investigators. Even if her meticulousness causes anxiety in some of the detectives, but not her best friend Jimmy. Ava was the one who showed him the ropes when he first made his dream of becoming a cop in NYC come true.
But when tragedy happens, Ava finds herself among Jimmy’s brothers, Austin and Zane. Zane never wanted his brother working in NYC, and because of an argument, neither had talked to the other for 6 months. Zane blamed Ava for a lot of things that he shouldn’t have. He’s known as a bit of a grouch, settled in his life on the farm Jimmy left behind.
Here we have two strong-willed characters in Zane and Ava, and they were bound to butt heads…spectacularly. I loved the characters in Protecting You, and I loved how Amanda brought them together. I went through a lot of tissues in the first quarter of the book, so have them ready, you will need them.
This was a heartwarming read. From the characters to the storyline, you find yourself drawn in from the start. I’m so glad I read this and I cannot wait to continue with the McCord storyline and see who else has love in their future.
