“Beautifully crafted and poignant . . . The City is many things: serious, lighthearted, nostalgic, courageous, scary, and mysterious. . . . [It] will have readers staying up late at night.”—New York Journal of Books
“[Koontz] can flat-out write. . . . The message of hope and depiction of how the choices you make can change your life ring true and will remain with you once the book has been closed.”—Bookreporter

“Perhaps more than any other author, Koontz writes fiction perfectly suited to the mood of America: novels that acknowledge the reality and tenacity of evil but also the power of good . . . that entertain vastly as they uplift.”—Publishers Weekly

Well, what can I say…I never even read the blurb because…it’s Dean Koontz…and I was so disappointed to be denied my dose of horror that I was expecting, though I did finish it and gave it a 2 star rating for that reason, I could never get past my expectations and I know I will be reading blurbs from here on out.
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of The City by Dean Koontz.

Dean Koontz has a long standing resume of writings that somehow transcend the genre they we’re written for and this is no exception. The City is a hauntingly vivid realism piece of art that examines the life and eventual death of Jonah Kirk. But it isn’t his life that is truly being read… More appropriately it feels as though your listening to an autobiography filled with what life so often is: romantic, tragic, yet undeniably beautiful all the same. He is as much a part of the City as it is him and he accepts this; further while he doesn’t know what to do? He finds threads throughout his remarkable tale that tell him that everything will be okay in the long run. And if you want to discover how? Listen to his story which Knootz paints as lovingly as any artist would. Truly? An excellent experience and example of life well lived.
Great writer keeps you on the edge
Koontz is one of my fave authors. I’m a new fan and have a ton of his books to get through.
The City wasn’t one of my favorites, but I enjoyed revisiting the 60’s with Jonah Kirk, a young black boy with an adventure waiting for him that he never could have imagined.
Koontz knows how to create characters, including when a setting is as much a character as people. He does this well in this story. I also enjoyed Pearl very much, but I wish she’d had a bigger part.
I enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next one I pull from a ha
It wasn’t my favorite book by this author. It was original, but strange. It was okay.
This book was all over the place. Jonah, the narrator/main character explains that he will jump around telling his life story. There is a force for good helping Jonah, but he is up against a group of ruthless killers.
Not my favorite Koontz book, but once I got into it, which took awhile, it was a pretty good story.
Loved this book. I wanted to keep just reading it till i finished it.
