For fans of Lemony Snicket and Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library, this first book in the bestselling, award-winning Mysterious Benedict Society Series is not to be missed! “Are you a gifted child looking for special opportunities?” Dozens of children respond to this peculiar ad in the newspaper and are then put through a series of mind-bending tests, which readers take along with them. Only … along with them. Only four children–two boys and two girls–succeed. Their challenge: to go on a secret mission that only the most intelligent and inventive children could complete. To accomplish it they will have to go undercover at the Learning Institute for the Very Enlightened, where the only rule is that there are no rules. But what they’ll find in the hidden underground tunnels of the school is more than your average school supplies. So, if you’re gifted, creative, or happen to know Morse Code, they could probably use your help.

I absolutely loved this book! It was so interesting that I couldn’t keep my hands off it! Great for readers that like a starting slow story line that picks up after a chapter or so.
An absolute masterpiece. My all-time favorite book.
It all started at a Barnes and Noble when I was a young lass… My grandmother saw this, and I decided that, though the cover somehow put off my tiny mind, I would give it a chance. It was the best decision of my life. Everything about The Mysterious Benedict Society is empowering. The characters feel like actual people. The plot is awesome, the writing is clever, and KATE IS THE SPUNKIEST. I cannot rave about this entire series enough. And honestly? This is the only book I have reread more than twice back to back. This always keeps me coming back. I am addicted to this book.
If you read anything in your lifetime, LET IT BE THIS.
It’s a perfect book for kids, but fun for adults, also! Kids will learn while having fun, not knowing they are learning life lessons.
Read this series when I was in middle school and I still reread this series!
It is great also because of the suspense and it is hard to stop reading it.
I first started this book when I was 9 years old(I got it from my cousin Noah) and finished it soon after. I was really exited that all the kids weren’t NORMAL kids, even if they weren’t secret agents. (I have something that is different from normal too!) I also loved the action, surprise, suspense, evil vs good, and friendship. I HIGHLY recommend this book. Basically the BEST BOOK EVER!!!!!!!!!! I am totally not exaggerating. So if you like action, surprise, and long-lost families/adoptions, read this book!!!!!!! I MEAN IT. So, bye 4 now! Later
I personally love this book. It is one of my dear favorites and I have read this more times than I can count. I recommend this for many people, but I only know a few that have read it. “The Mysterious Benedict Society” is truly amazing. Trenton Lee Stewart is an amazing author and I recommend many of his books. There are more books in this series, titles including “The Mysterious Benedict Society,” “The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Perilous Journey,” and “The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Prisoner’s Dilemma,” as well as additional books such as “The Mysterious Benedict Society: Mr. Benedict’s Book of Perplexing Puzzles, Elusive Enigmas, and Curious Conundrums,” and “The Extraordinary Education of Nicholas Benedict.”
Although it took me a while to finish this book, that doesn’t mean I wasn’t on the edge of my seat. The mysterious Benedict Society was really funny, really sweet, and great for all ages. I’m excited to read book two!
Excellent story filled with quirky characters. Though the story is written for children and young adults, I believe all ages will find it enchanting.
