It was a mind blower. Read with an open heart
I guess a good book for a beginning disciple but I found it to be a bit simplistic for a growing Christian .
A terrific book to find your spiritual why
I read this book, But instead of using a couple or so bibles, he uses so many that you can’t keep up with which bible he uses to make his points. Most people don’t have fourteen or so bibles. So it’s hard to know whether the topic is accurate or not. And much of what I find is not really that accurate. It’s like he parafrases much of his wording. He does have some good points he makes, but I would not want to read any more of his books.
Rick is so good I live most anything he does
Helps you figure out your purpose.
Wonderful little book.
Logical and Spiritual. One good read that every Christian or Spiritualist needs to read.
This book helped me understand who I am, why, and that God is the answer.
As always, Pastor Rick Warren simplifies difficult Christian teachings. How many of us are in search of a life purpose? This book leads the reader to a clear, Biblical answer.
Well written and emotionally charging.
It helps you see your purpose for being here. Great for a small group study.
I was given this book once before and I never read it however; this time around, I read it with my husband and I gained great insight. It can assist in the process of changing your life when you are a new believer. I recommend every person who has questions about their purpose to read this to get a perspective on life.
A great book that might just change your life.
NEEDED!
Great book on our God given purpose in life! I have read it many times.
An excellent personal journey book.
Food for thought
Book is well written and easy to read. Offers a very fundamental and narrow understanding of the purpose of the Christian life. As I read him, Warren believes our purpose is to come to faith in Jesus Christ as our personal Savior and to grown in that faith daily. God tests our Christian faith throughout life to refine and hone it to make us fit for heaven. Of course, we will never be perfect but if our faith is strong enough in Jesus the He will provide the grace necessary for entrance to heaven. Life is about preparing oneself for heaven.
I cannot fault the theory he put forward as it is a traditional long-accepted one.
Yet, my theological studies bring me to look at it differently.
We are created by God from love, we are here to respond to that love by loving others. Jesus is the primary example, the embodiment of the Divine Love of God and shows us how to love God, self, and one another perfectly. He showed us the full expression of loving God perfectly in his agonizing decision to remain faithful to that Love by accepting the horror others had planned for him without hatred in his heart or allowing his followers to ferment hate in there’s. We are here to grow the love of Christ within our hearts and to live from that love every day, in every decision and in every relationship. It is hard beyond measure. We will fail. Yet, Jesus’ Spirit gives us the hope, strength and courage to try again. In the end, it’s all about God’s Grace to love and accept us as we are while concurrently calling us forward to be more than we are thus far, not leaving us as we were when we found God but continually drawing us deeper into that reshaping Divine Love that is God. We don’t need to wait to live in heaven, we’re already there!
Warren and I come to this question with very different theological perspectives so I cannot, in good conscience, recommend and rate it higher.
