The world Victoria Sue built for this series, taking the Arthurian legends as inspiration with a M/M twist is simply brilliant. And now in this second book the plot got more complex and interesting. Lucan and Tom’s story is emotional and intense, full of angst and tear-jerking decisions and situations that got me at the edge of my seat the whole book. Wonderful way to continue with this story. I cannot wait for the next book, to know what is next after the end of this one. Loved it!!
I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
Since book 1 I was waiting for Lucan and Tom ‘s story and I wasn’t disappointed.
Lucan is the dark and broody knight. Like his brothers, he has one mission, one goal, to find his tresor and defeat Morgan the Fay. But nothing is simple for Lucan when he meets his tresor… A sixteen-year-old teenager who’s in trouble.
Tom is sixteen years old when he meets Lucan. He knew at first sight that he belongs to Lucan, but nothing is as simple as it should be and two years later, Tom and Lucan seem to be apart. Tom has special abilities that put his life in danger and eventually Lucan’s life too.
I adored Dead of Knight. Lucan and Tom are my favorite…for now (ok I know I say that for Mel and Lance…)
Lucan and Tom want to be together; they just don’t know how to express it and how to do it. Both want to protect the other and both have personal issues, traumatic events in their past that hold them.
I loved them, I loved how broody and dark Lucan is completely at the mercy of sweet and sunny Tom, I adored the plot in this book. Besides Lucan and Tom’s story, there’s also all the plot about Morgan’s plan to raise again and to destroy the knights. Tom’s origin was interesting and pretty much complex to guess exactly who Tom was in Arthur’s universe, I didn’t see it coming I won’t lie, Victoria Sue was diabolic like that, she added more complexity in this book and it was annunciating that it won’t be as easy and simple that what I thought and honestly I adored it. I adore when an author challenges my mind and doesn’t make things easy.
It was a super sequel to book 1 (The Twelfth Knight) and Dead of Knight can’t be read as a standalone. I highly recommend reading the series in order, to have a fully experience with them.
I can’t wait to read the next book in the series, especially after reading the last sentence in the book, it’s the kind of thing that make you said (read scream) “What? When? Who? … But WHAT?????”
I read and absolutely loved the first book in this series, and I’ve been anxiously waiting for this installment. Now that I’ve read Tom and Lucan’s story, I can say it is so worth the wait. Tom is finally eighteen, which is old enough to fulfill his destiny of bonding with his knight. Lucan, however, is still full of doubts. Tom is still so young, and Lucan is worried that Tom might eventually resent being tied to Lucan forever.
When Tom is taken, and characters from the past show up, the entire team has to figure out how to work things out together. Of course, we’ve known from the start that there is something special about Tom, and I cried over his backstory. This book has moments that inspire anger, fear, and sadness; but it is wrapped in love. The knights have been a family for centuries, and seeing them begin to come alive in a different way as they find their tresors is lovely. There is no way to avoid being swept into this world of magic and danger, no way to avoid falling in love with these characters. Lance and Mel had a wonderful story, and Tom and Lucan do here, as well. I am addicted to this series, and I can’t wait for the next heartbreaking, magical romance!
September 16, 2020, edited to add my comments on the audiobook.
Overall – 5
Performance – 5
Story – 2
This audiobook needs way more than 5 stars!
I loved Dead of Knight when I read it back in January 2020 and I really didn’t see how it could get much better; but Greg Boudreaux’s performance of this story totally blew me away. Just like I said for book one, The Twelfth Knight, the voices he does for this book are nothing short of amazing. I know that Victoria Sue had to wait a few months in order for Greg to do this book. Let me tell you, I think it was absolutely worth the wait. I just can’t imagine anyone else performing the book the way that he has. I hope with all my heart that he will be able to do the next book when it comes out.
Below is a copy of the review I wrote when I first read the book:
This book and series just blows me away!
I really can’t believe how much I love this series. As I said in my review of The Twelfth Knight, I almost never read fantasy-based romance but that is no longer true; I am well and truly hooked on this series. I guess I didn’t know what I was missing and may now give other fantasy authors a try.
Here’s the thing about the Guardians of Camelot series: it’s complex, it’s engaging, it’s effing amazing! Dead of Knight picks up where The Twelfth Knight left off. (This is a series you really need to read in order.) While all of the characters we met in book one play an important role in Dead of Knight, the romantic focus is on Lucan and Tom.
Dead of Knight also introduces us to some new characters (both bad guys and good guys) and had more than a few surprise elements for me. I won’t do any spoilers, just let me say that we learn things about Tom that I didn’t see coming.
I really want to say so much more here but everything I come up with would be a spoiler. The world that Victoria Sue has created it just amazing. Tom and Lucan get a good conclusion to their romance in this book but this is a continuing series and everything will not be resolved in this book. Victoria Sue gives us a great teaser at the end for the next book and I cannot wait!
A copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

Holy cow this is a great addition to this series. If you thought book one was good book 2 with Tom and Lucan is even better. Every time I thought I knew what was happening I had to stop because nothing was what I expected and the whole story just kept expanding and improvong and going different than what I expected which was so much better than I hoped for. I love the premise of this series and having met Tom and Lucan in book one Dead of Knight allowed for greater development of their story. Dead of Knight also introduced more of the history of the Knights and Tressors which just makes me want more of this series.
Choices
“Sometimes you just have to let things die.” Those are some ominous words for a very intense, mysterious and thrilling tale. With so many twists and turns you won’t know up from down, this story blew me away from the first page. Yes, we have some questions answered but with each answer more questions arise. I absolutely loved this book and wouldn’t have it any other way. Parts of it had me yelling and others had me sighing with happiness, but throughout it all I felt so much.
“You might trust me to keep you safe, but I trust you to keep me whole.” Oh Lucan and Tom, you made me cry and laugh and fall in love. Tom is so brave and strong. He really is a treasure unlike any other. Lucan, though he frustrated me at times, I wouldn’t want any other protecting me. The strength and depth of their love for one another knows no bounds and it amazes me as do they. Such a tease at the end, I already want the next book and wish I could speed up time. A fantastic series that breathes a whole new life to a magical legend.
Lucan has serious fears about claiming Tom. To me, Tom feels like he’s had about all he can take of Lucan’s rejections but he wants to try again. As these two try to figure out their relationship, outside forces are changing in ways that leaves the Knights confused and something is coming for Tom. We also get to find out a few more things about the past that might just explain…or leave you with more questions.
This series takes a familiar myth and turns it completely on its head in the best possible way. I love how this series keeps getting better (and the first was great). Can’t wait for the next one.
