I was looking forward to this book because I have read many books by Penny but I was a little disappointed. It was just ok. The sex scenes were everything I would expect from Penny. It was the plot of the story that was lacking for me. It was somewhat ridiculous to me. Monica might have apologized to Daniel for her extreme cruelty and constantly bullying but she never said that she didn’t mean it as a matter of fact she acknowledged to herself that she liked it. This is the woman you marry after reconnecting after a couple of days. I know books are fantasy but come on be a little realistic. Until next time happy reading.
I love Penny Wylder’s books! All of her books have alpha males and beutiful heroines.
This is a slow burn, revenge romance. Gorgeous Daniel Argent is a self made billionaire. Monica Blast was a mean, rich girl from high school, when Daniel and his family lived in poverty due to her father.
I enjoyed Daniel story, even though he and his family had it rough growing up. Then years later humbled and broke Monica comes back into his life unexpectedly.
Their love scenes are explosive and the romance to happily ever after was a very nice touch!
A Poignant & Beautiful Story Stripped Bare by Endless Typos & Editing Errors… “The Marriage Dare” by Penny Wylder is an enemies to lovers tale. A refreshingly poignant story about Daniel, a man from poor, working class origin’s, mercilessly bullied by his highschool crush Monica. And the bully herself, Monica, the daughter of a corrupt, rich real estate/construction mogul, whose life isn’t as beautiful as it appears. Both are brought back together by chance years later. Daniel now a successful businessman in his own right, opts to embark on a seemingly insane scheme to get back at a now downtrodden Monica for all her transgressions against him in their childhood.
What follows is a soul wrenching story of anger, discovery, regret, and forgiveness unlike anything Wylder has written before. It is a stunningly beautiful story that should have been glorious if not for the endless number of grammar, sentence structure, and other editing mistakes throughout.
In total I marked twenty-two typos, grammar and punctuation, and other errors. Twenty-two! And I know I didn’t even catch them all because by the time I got half way through, my frustration was so high I began glossing over pages instead of reading intently. Something that has me angry because of the fact it should have been easily avoidable.
This honestly would have been a 5-star review as the story itself is wonderful. It was actually one of the more emotionally intense, focused, and heartfelt books Wylder has written this year. And unlike her more typical, filthy, sex driven stories, this one was far more personal, touching, refreshingly cerebral, and far more emotionally intelligent. It contained complex, multifaceted characters, driven by realistically portrayed problems, regrets, and fears. In short, this story had teeth, but the mechanics of the writing here was so uncharacteristically sloppy, so disjointed, it became a major distraction and stripped away the impact of the story being told.
“The Marriage Dare” is, in my opinion, one of the best storylines I’ve read by Wylder thus far. Which is why it truly pains me to have to rate it so low, but the mechanics warrant it. Please, please, please fix the typos and structure mistakes and reissue it so I can give it the stars it truly deserves.
