Laila and Matt certainly make sparks fly during their first meeting, and those sparks start a fire neither can put out. Mary Manners always manages to pull me into her stories with flawed characters and difficult backstories. Her people must learn a truth about themselves, and often about God.
The book starts off with a bang and the ripples of past actions and hurts carry through the remainder of the novel in such a way that each one builds on the next. You can anticipate what’s coming and it’s such a beautiful conclusion you can’t help but to smile.
I loved the relationship between Matt and Gray. Throwing the teenager into the mix with his uncle created quite a few laugh out loud moments as they learn to respect each other and navigate a new kind of normal.
A short, quick read that drew me right in as Laila and Matt learn the value of honor’s reward.
I received a copy of this book from the author. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The characters in this book are very intriguing, and they become more so, as you read!
Matthew is a hockey player, who received a concussion in his last game, playing for a Stanley Cup playoff. Then, his sister brings her son to him, saying she “can’t do this, anymore,” and that he needed to take care of her son for a while, and she takes off. Grayson is suspended from school, so Matt has to be the one to get him to the alternative summer session. When they meet the head of that school, they are realizing this is going to be a demanding thing, for both of them. The head of the school is strict—but, Matthew realizes it has to be, to get Grayson turned around. Matt has to help around the school, which is a surprise; but he is interested enough to stick around. He is also attracted to Laila, but she fights her attraction to him. It is a very interesting story, and a lot happens. Well written characters make you want to keep reading, as well. I highly recommend this book!
This book is a nice read on a story about a hockey player who is finding the meaninglessness of pursuit pleasure and fame. When His nephew is dumped into his life, Matthew decides to make lifestyle changes and choices. Laila is a lady who has a big heart to help struggling teens. She also is dealing with regrets from the past choices in life. Together they are able to help each other move forward and learn to rely on Christ for meaning in life and forgiveness for past mistakes. I was really captivated by the development of the characters in this story and the way that they learned to rely on God to provide exactly what was needed. I received a complimentary copy of this book, but have chosen to freely express my own thoughts and opinions.
We all make mistakes, but as this story tells, we can be forgiven through the saving grace of Jesus. Both Laila and Matt have made mistakes in their past but coming together to help Matt’s nephew draws them closer to God and each. Wonderful story of hope and grace!
Honors reward 2-4-20
We can’t change the past, but we can ask forgiveness and move forward. Laila and Matt both learn this lesson in Honors Reward. They also learn the hardest person to forgive is yourself. The author eloquently takes these two and you the reader on a journey you won’t soon forget. I know I sure won’t. The characters were heartwarming and I found myself praying and pulling for them to find answers to life’s hard questions. Be sure and read Honors Reward. Miss Manners will not disappoint you with this one.
I give this story 5 Heartwarming stars.
A great clean, second chance, inspirational book.
The characters in this story go through many trials but solve them all eventually.
The plot is so eloquent and you will want to read until the end.
I love this series.
Thank you to the author and publisher for an advanced reader copy of this book! All opinions are of my own wording.
Honor’s Reward by Mary Manners
The Potter’s House books are always a joy to read. And Manner’s contribution did not disappoint! A story about second chances. I loved the interaction between the characters of Matthew Bennett and his nephew Gray. Also Laila Peterson’s sassy attitude and love for God! I loved her heart for troubled teens, as well. This was a great reminder that no matter what you have done in your life, you are never too far gone that you can’t be redeemed. Honor’s Reward proved that good can always come from any past mistake.
This was a great read and addition to the series!!
I always love Mary Manner’s books. They’re such sweet, clean, encouraging stories, and Honor’s Reward was no different.
Matt is dealing with the effects of past reckless relationships, and Laila harbors a deep secret. Can the overcome both and find happiness with each other? I loved the characters – we all have a past or a secret of some sort. I enjoying watching the walls Mary’s characters have built come down and seeing the redemption and hope they find. I also really enjoyed the story line of Gray in Honor’s Reward. Seeing him find hope for the future and a better life was encouraging.
“’For whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and He knows everything.’ John 3:20 washed over her, bringing with it a bite of conviction. Her Heavenly Father knew every ugly detail about her past and her life, and yet He still loved her. How long, then, would it take her to love herself once again?”
A touchy subject adoption seems to be in today’s world – at least when going at it looking at the birth family. I’ve always seen the beauty and utter strength and selflessness of such an act, but many don’t see it that way. I am very appreciative at how Manners handles this subject.
On top of dealing with serious and realistic issues facing people, this book obviously had the strong Christian subtext that really makes a book feel complete. The characters were strong and realistic, along with the storyline. This book was extremely easy to read. Everything flowed really well and I was just captured as I sailed through it.
No matter what kind of mess you have made, God can use it for good. The lesson in this wonderful story in the Potter’s House Books series. Well written, emotional, and highly recommended. I received an advance reader copy from the author. Opinions are my own.
Matthew, Leila, and Grayson’s story sings of love, grace, second chances, and giving back. Like all of Ms Manners’ stories, the characters find their way quickly into your heart and keep you reading until you reach “The End”. This author is sure to become one of your favorites if you like heartwarming stories that stay with you long after you finish.
Meeting Laila, Matthew and Grayson has been so rewarding. Reminding me when I need it once again that God loves me NO MATTER WHAT! Flaws, mistakes, good deeds and all. And He’s always there to catch me when I fall. To lift me up and bring His good grace and unconditional love upon me. The journey these characters put us on is very rewarding. A story of hope and second chances and one of finding Gods plan for you! I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is a fantastic read. Two individuals that could be getting a second chance. Will they be able to have that chance. I love how the Author has brought this story to fruition. There was never a dull moment in this read. The World building is fantastic. I couldn’t put the book down until I finished. Its definitely a must read.

“God – your God and mine – is a God of grace and mercy.”
Matt and Lelia had made mistakes in the part. Somehow the guilt of their past actions still lingers and rears it’s head in both their lives.
But when Matt was saddled with his nephew which led to meeting Lelia, their lives change
This books winds around both of them doing what they both love and allowing the love of God and forgiveness wash over them.
Taking to heart that God loves them despite their part.
They weren’t perfect but they both learnt to lean and truth in the Perfect God who is also the Potter moulding thier lives for His glory
I received a copy of the book and this is my honest opinion.
Very interesting book to read. I enjoyed it very much. Recommend it to others to read.
I did receive an advanced copy of this book but voluntarily left this review.
This is a sweet clean book about second chances. It is well written and will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. This is book 3 in The Potter’s House Books Series 2, but all of the books in this series are stand alone’s and can be read in any order. I highly recommend this book and the entire series.
What a good book. I loved that the theme throughout the book was second chanced. We all need those. I liked seeing the relationship between Laila and Matt grow. I also loved the character of Gray, who was a teenager who only wanted to know that someone cared about him. I liked seeing him grow as well. This was a really good book and I would recommend it.
I received a digital copy of this book from the author and was not required to write a positive review.
Enjoyed Matt and Laila’s story. Getting to see Matt find his way back to God while helping his nephew Gray have a safe haven with him. And Laila finally giving herself a chance for happiness. It warmed my heart. I highly recommend Honor’s Reward if you like clean, inspirational stories.
Matt is fighting to protect his reputation when Kara and Gray shows up at his condo. When Matt takes Gray to sign him up for school all of their lives will change. Laila is a amazing woman who puts everything into the school and the students. Watching Laila and Matt butting heads will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. You will feel God working throughout this wonderful story. I had the honor to review this book for this amazing author for a honest review. I would give this book a higher rating than a five star review if I could.
