In Southern Maryland’s serene Amish country, one young woman’s life is changed by an unexpected request . . . “She’s yours.” Until now, Rosanna Mast’s hopes for the future have all revolved around handsome Henry Zook. But when a young Englisch girl places her newborn daughter in Rosanna’s arms and utters those words, shock quickly turns to fierce, protective devotion. Between helping her midwife … Between helping her midwife mamm and caring for her own siblings, Rosanna has plenty of experience with babies. And who wouldn’t love a sweet-natured boppli like little Mollie? Yet to her dismay, Henry has no intention of ever taking on another man’s child. Instead, it is steady, thoughtful Paul Hertzler who becomes Rosanna’s staunch supporter.
Paul knows he should have acted sooner on his feelings for Rosanna. Now, as her dream of adopting Mollie meets unexpected hurdles, he sees a way to help. Rosanna would do anything to keep baby Mollie—perhaps even agree to marriage. But will Rosanna continue to hold him at arm’s length, or see that he longs to offer her the love and family she deserves?

An endearing story and a bit different from many Amish tales: Rosanna Mast helps her midwife mother with births, but she never expected one of the babies to become her own. How will this affect her chances to court and marry? Will she actually be able to adopt and raise this sweet little girl? The book seemed a bit long since there wasn’t a powerful plot, but the realistic characters hold the readers’ interest. The internal story is more compelling than the outward action. I enjoyed the book, and it made me think about different situations and how God would want them handled. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.
I have read several books penned by Ms. Simpson and have to say I enjoy her writing so much. I live near and shop in the community she writes about in her books so that’s another reason I have been drawn to her novels.
Rosanna’s Gift is my favorite novel penned by Ms. Simpson because the storyline was intriguing from the very beginning. I know that young women who cant’ keep their babies put them up for adoption but I was totally unprepared for a mother to give her baby to a young Amish woman. especially since the young Amish woman was just as shocked as I was. Rosanna was chosen by the unwed mother to care for and raise her child which was heartwarming after it was revealed why the mother chose her.
Rosanna’s family was supportive by offering to help her in any way they could and she is going to need a lot of emotional support when the baby’s aunt decides she wants to be involved in her nieces life. .Paul is one of my favorite characters, he’s a person outside of the family who proves he’ll be there for Rosanna and Mollie no matter what. I loved his devotion to them and how he stood by Rosanna no matter what she was facing.
I was fully engaged from the first page to the last page in this well written and interesting novel. I look forward to reading more from Susan Lantz Simpson. For fans of sweet, clean and Amish fiction this book would be a perfect read and is suitable for readers of all ages.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this novel. All opinions are my own.
Rosanna’s Gift was a good read on a rainy winter Saturday. I enjoyed my time with Rosanna and Paul. There is a little bit of redundancy, but it didn’t get in the way of a wonderful story.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy. This is my honest opinion.
Fantastic book. I found that what happened in this book could actually happen in today’s world and culture.
I highly recommend this book.
Please note: There is some Amish language used but not much. 99.9% of the book is written in English.
Enjoy The Book.
Another sweet Amish romance with a twist — what happens when a young single Amish woman is left with a baby to raise? How does she manage in a culture with strict rules and customs? Even though Rosanna has a good support system, not everyone is willing to accept her boppli — especially that certain someone. Is he the one for her, or is there another waiting in the wings who will love her and Mollie, too? Susan Simpson has invited us once again into the Amish culture with a warm-hearted romance, reflecting the truth that God, in mysterious ways, wonderfully weaves His plan in our lives for His glory! I received a complimentary ARC from the author, but the opinions are my own.
Rosanna’s Gift by Susan Lantz Simpson takes us to an Amish community in Southern Maryland. Rosanna Mast is training to be a midwife by working alongside her mother. She fancies Henry Zook and hopes that he will take her home from a singing. An Englischer who gives her name as Jane comes to them in labor and they deliver her little girl. Jane surprises Rosanna when she states that the baby now belongs to her and has papers giving up her parental rights. Jane scoots out the window and into a passing car while Rosanna is fetching her mother. Rosanna names the little girl Mollie and is happy to discover that the legal paperwork she received is all in order. Then Rosanna learns that Henry will not raise another man’s child especially a child that was born to an Englischer. Rosanna wonders if any man will want to marry her. Paul Hostetler has admired Rosanna from afar and regrets not having acted on his feelings sooner. He can see that Rosanna and Mollie are meant to be together and supports her decision to adopt the baby. But then something unexpected happens that could derail the adoption. Paul has a suggestion, but he is not sure that Rosanna will be receptive. Rosanna’s Gift is a sweet, heartwarming Amish romance. I liked this unique story with charming characters and the adorable little Mollie. I thought the story was well-written and it moved along steadily. Rosanna is a kind, thoughtful woman with a big heart. Her love of Mollie and her family was evident. Paul is such a sweetheart. He is a thoughtful, caring man who will make a wonderful husband and father. I like how Paul was there for Rosanna. I enjoyed seeing their relationship develop over the course of the story. We get a glimpse at the life of Amish in Southern Maryland. Faith, love and family are the prevalent themes in Rosanna’s Gift. My favorite line was Rosanna’s Gift is, “Life is full of surprises, for sure and for certain.” There was one character that I found entertaining (I cannot say more because I do not want to spoil the story for you). She was quite unique and humorous. Rosanna’s Gift is heartfelt story with an unexpected blessing, a stalwart friend, a supportive family, an unforeseen hurdle, and a contented conclusion.
Rosanna Mast’s is in love with Henry Zook. Henry dislikes Englisher’s. Rosanna helps her Mother who is is a midwife deliver a young English girls baby.. After the baby is delivered the girl tells her that she is ill and the baby is Rosanna’s. The young girl slips out of a window and vanishes. Rosanna is shocked and when her mother checks it out she is told that the girl signed the baby over for Rosanna to raise. It is a beautiful story and the characters are interesting. It draws you in to see how Rosanna deals with raising the child.
As a lover of Amish fiction, I am always excited to find books that are not like every other Amish book. When I read the synopsis of a young Amish girl that receives the gift of an Englisher’s baby, I knew I wanted to read it! The story line and its characters caught me from the start and I just couldn’t put it down!
I received a copy of this book from the author, but was not required to give a positive review. This is my honest opinion of this book.
Rosanna’s Gift is a tender refreshing story that drew me in from the beginning. It’s truly a heartwarming love of a young mother who gave her child up for adoption knowing her past and what the future held for her. Rosanna assisted her midwife mother and had the sweetest spirit, compassion for others and willing to do whatever it took to serve others. The unexpected surprise she received was a blessing that brought moments of joy but yet pain with the unexpected twists and turns of events and hearing unkind words. Paul was supportive of Rosanna and doted on little Mollie whenever he was around whether at church or their home. When a possible confrontation about the adoption of Mollie arose Paul became more expressive with his feelings and thoughts.
This story is filled with an underlying love that only God could have orchestrated as individuals waited on him for their future. There’s plenty of action, vivid description of the Maryland Amish, characters to charm and others that needed to be put in their place, a strong family connection for the hero and heroine, romance, faith and God’s love for each one. I highly recommend this book and advise readers to have a box of tissues handy. I look forward to reading more of Susan Lantz Simpson books in the future. I’ve never been disappointed with any of her stories set in Maryland Amish community.
I received a complimentary ARC of this book from the author and was under no obligation to write a positive review. I have expressed my own sincere thoughts.
I really wasn’t looking for a Amish book to read.
Because so many have disappointed me and there is just so few that I liked. But I have to say when I saw this book cover, I slowed down to take a closer look. I think it was the tenderness on the woman’s face , freshness of the picture and the title of the book. And the book information pulled me in even more. So, I did end up liking this book.
Emma is Rosanna’s best friend and she was someone that added some honest, fun spice to the book. Their friendship was also sweet and wholesome with laughter too.
I also enjoyed the Amish family that Rosanna was part of. You could feel the love shine in their interactions. They were shown in a positive light but with the usual quirks you might find in any family. Like brothers teasing their sisters and brothers practically eating everything in sight. Family.
Frannie (another Amish girl) shows that girls will be girls no matter where they live. As English or Amish, they can be catty. Can anyone say Meow?
Paul wasn’t sure about how to really get Rosanna’s attention on him but he did show up and they start a slow friendship. He was such a good person in so many ways and I liked that we got both of their P.O.V.’s. Rosanna was a bit gun shy with Paul. She didn’t trust her feelings about guys after her non-starter romance with Henry. The story did slow down for a bit at one point. Mainly because of several issues being re-hashed a few extra times. I had to remind myself that Rosanna was a young girl who was disappointed in her “first love” experience and was trying to find her way. Then, add a baby. However, about the time I was going to mentally complain, things began to happen again in the story.
Overall, I enjoyed the story. So glad that I picked it up to read.
“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
I enjoyed this read, especially after reading a really heavy heart in your throat, this one is sweet, and almost unimaginable, but then!
Made me think how desperate this young mother had to be, but as the story unfolds, you begin to understand her reasoning,
Will Ms. Kane succeed? Will Roseanna see what is before her eyes, or pine for what she thinks she wants? Her Amish training takes in as she has been taking care of little ones almost her whole life [being the eldest daughter] and now a midwife.
Come along and see how this all works out, maybe not how you thing!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Kensington, and was not required to give a positive review.
Rosanna Mast’s life is changed forever by an unexpected request. A young Englisch mother is sick and wants Rosanna to raise her newborn baby daughter. She is surprised by the girl’s request. But when she holds the baby for the first time, she immediately falls in love and wants to keep the baby. But when her dream of adopting baby Mollie meets unexpected obstacles, she finds a friend and supporter in Paul Hertzler. Paul has always been in love with Rosanna and wants nothing more than to marry her and be a daed to her boppli. Now all he has to do is find the courage to tell her how he feels.
Rosanna’s Gift is a sweet and heartwarming Amish romance that captured my interest from start to finish. The story is beautifully written and moves at a steady pace. Rosanna was such a wonderful and kind-hearted person. It was very easy to love her and want to see her dream of adopting Mollie come true. I admired her dedication to her family and her desire to help people. Paul was one of kind. He was so caring and kind-hearted. I love that he was always there to support Rosanna. They were perfect for each other and I enjoyed watching their relationship grow throughout the book. I highly recommend this heartfelt Amish romance.
