So so main characters not very interesting
very wordy not interesting, didn’t care for the book
I don’t know why, but it was slow reading. Perhaps because the storyline was very predictable
The Secret of the Chateau tells about some ordinary retired English couple — and one singleton. they decide to buy a chateau in the south of France, in the foothills of the Maritime Alps near Nice. It is the same old story of everyone starting over, finding things to occupy their time. Their lives are rather mundane.
A parallel story that involves the former exalted owners, the Comte and Comtesse de Verais, leads to a mystery and a possible ghost. The French Revolution has taken place and aftermath of guillotine slaughter of royals and their lackeys had begun. What happens to the the Comte’s family? Who is the ghost? That is a mildly interesting part of the book. Although the mystery is somewhat transparent.
