A vampire prince. A dark cult. A wizard staring into the abyss… and disappearance of Amelia Tasar’s parents. An investigation that will take me into the heart of a twisted cult and the terrible secrets that lie within. Secrets that tie in with the Order Of The Serpent, the clandestine organization that claims I have a pivotal role to play in a secret war that’s been raging for years.
And did I mention the angry werewolf on my trail out for revenge, and the serial killer playing games with my life for his own amusement?
Things were easier when I was just a guitar player…

Dark Son is Book 2 in the Gods and Monsters Trilogy by N.P. Martin. As with Serpent Son, this is extremely well written, the character development is exceptional, and Mr. Martin’s way with words puts you in the story experiencing the adventure. This is a fast paced, action packed thrill ride with vampires, werewolves, witches, a sea nymph, magic and more. Lots going on in this book: Corvin is able to avenge his mother, rescue five young women, a trip to hell, and resolve other situations. Will Corvin be able to avenge is father’s murder? Looking forward to the last book in this trilogy to find out what the author has in store for Corvin, Dalia, and Monty. Hopefully we will be seeing this world, Corvin and others again in the future. I thoroughly enjoyed this read and highly recommend this book and trilogy. I received an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.
Calling all urban fantasy fans!
Dark Son, the second book in the Gods and Monsters Trilogy, is an absolutely awesome addition to the series. Dark Son takes place very shortly after the events of Serpent Son and the action just keeps on coming. The lead character, Corvin, has avenged his mother’s murder but what about those responsible for the death of his father? We get to enjoy the same cast of characters we met in the first book plus a few new additions which promise to add their own unique spice to the mix. In this story, Corvin really gets put through the wringer, both physically and emotionally. We begin the book with Corvin setting out to rescue five young ladies from the evil clutches of a monstrous buggane (think big bad hairy bogeyman) with an assist from a water nymph named Nyxie. All this happens in the first few pages and the pace is relentless from that point on to the very end of the book. Corvin wants to devote his time to tracking down the murderous vampire responsible for his father’s death but those plans are repeatedly sidelined as numerous other dire situations crop up requiring his unique blend of magic, guile, and tenacity to resolve. Throughout this cavalcade of crises, I couldn’t help but notice that Corvin drinks a bit too much but given the insanity that is his life, I can’t say that I blame him. If you enjoy magic, fairies, witches, elves, vampires, evil spirits, haunted houses, werewolves, orcs and even an occasional buggane, this story will be a delightful find. Fabulous world building set in the myth-laden land of Ireland, wonderful characters to love, to fear, and to despise, non-stop action, twists, turns, surprises, friendships, and a touch of romance all blend together seamlessly in this highly enjoyable and totally spell-binding urban fantasy. Due to some adult language and the amount of violence depicted, this is probably not suitable for the very young or the very sensitive, but I think the more mature enthusiast of the urban fantasy genre will thoroughly enjoy the wild ride. I am certainly looking forward to the next book in this series.
While I did receive an advance copy of this book from the author, I also chose to purchase a copy and I am voluntarily offering this honest and unbiased review.
