YOU KNEW HER, BEFORE THE SHIPWRECK—YOU’RE A FOOL MAX
The story is a continuation from The Keeper’s Sacrifice, which is a prequel and sets up this tale of Max Tucker and Charlotte ‘Lottie’ Pullard. Two young people who have feelings for one another, but are of two different social classes. When family interferes, Max will respect the words of her father and leave but that only leaves Charlotte hurt. The story picks up, December 1869, Max is the Keeper of the Puffin Point lighthouse and there has been a shipwreck during a storm, going to the shore, he will pull up two bodies, but one is alive and it is Charlotte.
What a shock to find her, and she is alive. He must get her up to the lighthouse and tend to her injuries and keep her safe. Imagine waking up, surviving a shipwreck, learn that there are no other survivors, and to see the man you cared about who had vanished without a word.
The story is a clean historical based tale that brings out the power and danger of nature—with the heavy rains and winds, capsizing ships, and claiming lives. It is the damage to the shoreline, to the lighthouse, exterior buildings, and land. It is two people reunited, but with trepidation and uncertainty. Charlotte is engaged, an arrangement with a business partner of her father, a man she has never met—and then in front of her is Max, the man she loves. Max was told of her engagement, and he is honorable enough not to cross a line, but his heart knows what it wants—and that is his Lottie.
“He realized now that a life with Lottie was all he would ever need to feel fulfilled; all he truly wanted. There could be no substitute.”
What a shock to people who come to check on Max and the condition of the lighthouse and met up with Charlotte and learn that she is the woman he has talked about from his past. Has fate given them a second chance? The story has several life and death situations, the reality and harshness of the sea, and its victims. It will show the loneliness of the lightkeeper who must be available to sound the fog bell and light the lens to warn ships away from the dangerous rocks.
Sometimes, doing what you think is the right thing can be extremely painful. Max can’t bring himself to let Charlotte know the truth—that he asked for her hand, and her father rejected him, telling him he should leave. Charlotte admitted she was on the ship heading to her fiancé, and she is still hurt that Max just left without talking to her. Will the stubbornness of these two get in the way of true love?
Returning to her home comes with mixed emotions, her father’s business associate is coming to see her, and he still wants the marriage. Will she acquiesce to her father’s wishes, or will she listen to her friend, Dinah?
“You were just—meant to be. I saw firsthand how happy you both were, how natural your relationship felt. The way I see it, that shipwreck was your second chance—and you blew it. How many opportunities to be together can the good Lord give you?” –Dinah
“Second chances? Those only come true in fairy tales, not in real life. I know she means well—and I wish she were right.”
The story will have the happily ever after ending and for Max and Lottie, with the help of some very good friends. It is a great example of following your heart—and making your dreams a reality.
“My life is now complete; I’m surrounded by birds!”
Sweet Historical Romance
I enjoyed the continuation of this story, and especially the devotion of all the friends, but how hard is it to truly have a real conversation with another?!
Maybe others aren’t like me, or maybe the authors can’t find another way to write their books. (It’s an extremely common thread!) But, I will just get into someone’s face or space, or whatever, and get it all out in the open, personally! I may not do it on day one, necessarily, but I would have never let this story go as far as it had! It was extremely difficult for me to read through all their pride and unnecessary pain.
I was given The Keeper’s sacrifice & now have continued the story to learn what happened with Max & Charlotte after she is shipwrecked & Max finds her. I enjoyed this story. There is a little mystery along with the love story.
Well worth the time to read.
Loved the book, the story was well written and the characters were intriguing. Once I started I could not get enough, from the start till the end I was engrossed I was even on the edge of my seat with twists and turns, lust and passion, strength and happiness with a happily ever after. Do yourself a favor and buy the book you want be disappointed.

I’ve wanted to take a trip to the Oregon coast forever! The charm of the small sea towns with their stoic lighthouses sounds so dreamy and this story threw me right there to the ocean and in the midst of a second chance historical romance.
I can’t imagine being in a shipwreck, let alone being rescued by the man whom I loved and lost, but that’s just what happened to Charlotte. In a tale of forgiveness, self-discovery, and small-town appeal, I was drawn into this sweet historical story and loved to vividly picture this story as it unfolded. The characters are delightful and the work of a keeper is exhausting.
This book does follow a prequel, The Keeper’s Sacrifice, and can stand on its own, but a richer understanding is given to the reader who dives into the prequel first.
Content: mild violence/moments of peril; mild romance

I absolutely loved this story. Wow, so much happens. Shipwreck fate bring two back together to hopefully see what each missed out once before. She is the only survivor of a horrible storm that goes apart the ship she was on. He finds the only survivor, his lost love.
How can such devastating circumstances bring them back together again?
This is definitely a book to read. So much happens that you’ll cry, laugh, rejoice, spend Christmas in a cottage attached to the lighthouse, only to lose her again. Read this wonderfully written historical romance on the Oregon coast. I guarantee you will love it.
