Fall has faded.A time for heroes to break a curse.Selene Constance is like no other hero she’s met before. Drawn to death like a moth to a flame, she is a reaper of souls who need to move on. She uses her gifts to help answer the unsolved murders of Seahill as a reporter while doing as her blood calls her to do—find the souls and take them to their afterlife. At least, that was her reality.Until … that was her reality.
Until him.
Jude Mallory, the ringleader of the infamous, spectacular circus of ghosts.
But there is more to Jude than the simple performer. He is the gatekeeper to holding the dead where they belong. Protecting mankind from an uprising of those they cannot see, just like his forefathers.
Together, they must find a killer who has been leaving a string of bodies at every show Jude performs.
But being together comes at a price.
Will they damn the world for a chance at love, or will they find a way to break the deal that has to be paid in blood?
It’s the heroes against the dead in a battle of love versus a curse.
But their time is running out, for, on October 31, Jude Mallory must die.

Fall is the second of 3 stand alone books that take place after the end of the Night, main series for the Hero Society. Again, each book revolves around a new couple, but there is no continuous storyline like the main series.
This book has such a Halloween vibe and I absolutely love it! Selene came into her gift at 16, but she tried to suppress it rather then embrace it. Learning from the mistakes of her past, she has taken steps to live a healthier life mentality, including using her gift of being a reaper.
Jude’s family is cursed, and his turn to make payment is coming on the next Halloween. His gift of control over the dead souls brings him together with Selene. Now they need to figure out what is going on with the dead of the world.
I loved this first stand alone book in the Hero Society series & I cannot wait to start the next one.
Fall is book 6 in the Hero Society series. It can be read as a standalone. I have only read the first two in the series and kind of gave up on the series but when I read the blurb for this one I really wanted to read it. I liked this one. It has a unique story line and I was hooked right from the beginning.
Selene is a reaper. She’s drawn to death. She fought her powers but now has come to turns with them. Jude is a gatekeeper for the dead. He’s a the ringleader of the infamous cirrus of ghosts. I really liked Jude. He has a curse to refill and he’s days are numbered. Selene meets him at the circus. They are drawn to each other. These two have chemistry and I was so hoping for a happy ending. There are murders happening at the circus and Jude and Selene work together to solve them. I was guessing along while reading as to who was doing the murders.

When I signed up for an ARC, I didn’t really
know what to expect since this is such a different genre than what I’m used to reading and also it not being the first book in the series, I thought I would be a little bit lost.
Fear not, since it is my understanding that you don’t need to have any prior knowledge to be able to enjoy each book as its own story, though if you’re like me and after reading this one or any other then decide you want to get the entire series, I’d do it in order, just in case there’s overlapping of events or timelines.
I’m so glad I still took the plunge…
Jessica Florence’s writing is beautiful, and descriptive without being tiresome; she gives us just enough information for us to be able to imagine this world she so masterfully created.
This storyline captured me since the first paragraph and since I don’t consider it a spoiler whatsoever and I don’t think the author would mind, let me leave it here:
“I wanted to die. On the outside, I seemed like your normal angst-ridden eighteen-year-old, but on the inside, my soul screamed to end everything. Death called to me like a siren’s song. It rolled inside my veins, its very presence haunting my mind.”
Selene’s relationship with her reaper abilities is fascinating to witness due to the duality of emotions it evokes in her; the exhilaration of the proximity to death and the strength and struggle necessary to keep it at bay.
Jude’s circus of ghosts is both beautiful and terrible sad, if we consider all the reasons behind the creation of the Mystical show – a goodbye.
Heartbreaking yet heartwarming in the same measure.
Until everything goes south.
Since I don’t do spoilers, let me just tell you this: I obviously expected some twist but I didn’t necessarily see this particular one coming and I was so mad and sad at the same time. Way to warm the way into my heart and pull on its strings just to hurt me later.
Congratulations Jessica Florence: you royally, officially tricked me. But such is life. 😀
I definitely plan on reading the other books in the series at some point this year – I’ve been creating so many reading lists, let’s just hope I’m not being to much of an overachiever.
I’m so curious and excited about the next book, and absolutely freaking loved the little sneak peek at the end of this.
Also, some of the characters from the previous books really caught my eye, *cough* Asher *cough*… just to mentioned one of them.
So yes, I will be coming back to hangout with the ladies and gents of the Hero Society. Maybe I’ll discover some superpowers of my own, who knows?

Whew.
This is my first Jessica Florence book. I know. Strange place to come in.
But I’m not even mad.
This book gave me everything. The secret society, the paranormal, the romance, a mystery, just everything.
I was at Mystical, from the time we dived in, until the end.
Because honestly, how cool would this show be?
Selene and Jude are dealing with their abilities, the best possible way they can.
For Selene, it’s helping the Hero Society. For Jude, it’s counting down until he can break the curse on his family.
Neither one is looking for the other, and that’s what makes this beautiful. In a short time, they find their meaning in one another, but not without a good bit of ghostly interference.
Can they stop the curse? Find the murderer? Fall in love?
You’ll see…..
Definitely recommend. I’m off to check out the rest.
This series. WOW! I loved it and Fall might just be my absolute favorite out of all of them. This book had all the things I love all in one. It’s so different in the best of ways. Ghosts and a magical circus YES PLEASE!! Although this book can be read stand alone, I HIGHLY recommend reading the rest of this series! Definitely a must read! I will forever one click anything by Jessica Florence.

Amazing! This one is my favorite in this series! I couldn’t put it down! Loved it so much!
“Death called to me like a siren’s song. It rolled inside my veins, its very presence haunting my mind.”
“Death called to me like a siren’s song, a final kiss of darkness, and I was allured to its depths forever.”
“If he falls for you, then you’re gonna die.”
Grab this! You will not be disappointed!
Jessica Florence did it again!
This is book 6 in the Hero Society series and just became my favorite book in the series!
I love this storyline because each book has a different story and a new set of characters but still brings the characters we know and love back in to keep everything tied together.
This is such a unique story (and series) and I love that it has subtle references here and there to the Haunted Mansion in Disney. They are so subtle they are easy to miss and I would like to go back and read this again as I am sure I missed some of the clues.
The story in this kept me on edge and guessing the whole time. This was one of those – “one more chapter and then I’ll go to sleep” books. I did finally put it down but it was because I finished it! As soon as I started this book, I could not put it down.
I couldn’t help but finish this book with a smile on my face, i absolutely loved this book and the ending just made me so happy.
There is one thing that never fails with a Jessica Florence book is her imagination and her writing just makes it so easy for the story to be pictured in your mind, especially when we are dealing with ghosts and witches and characters that can turn into animals and boy does she do it well. Jude i loves straight away and felt for him he was stuck in the past and the present and if i could i would have jumped in the book to help him. I also loved Selene she just seemed lonely and she had a heart of gold.
I will admit i wasn’t sure about this story and dealing with ghosts but i have never doubted i absolutely loved Jude and Selene and they were such different characters from the other books. I do love that we got the previous characters in this story as well see what’s going on and basically helping solve the crimes like they do.
This book had it all it was magical, steamy an amazing story line and something so different to the normal love stories you need to get into this book and series love love love it.
