I LOVE PEARL, she is honest and tough, and competes in a man’s world. Declan is your run of the mill romance story good looking guy who needs to look like he is a relationship so his manager pairs him with fellow surfer, Pearl, to make them look like accouple during a touring competition. The steam level takes on new meaning when they are in the tropical setting of Hawaii and its rain and humidity help fog up the windows. Now this isn’t your standard pretending to be in love trope that turns into real love, well it is but Declan and Pearl are coming off the heels of the Vietnam era and the big loss the ocean’s waves have taken from Declan recently. Pearl helps him heal inside and out. Jill Brashear is an author to keep your eye on.
I loved this book. This was my first read by this author and most definitely won’t be my last. Declan is a sexy surfer, that’s given up on finding his own happiness. Then he meets Pearl. Pearl loves surfing and is trying to become a female surfer. The chemistry between Declan and Pearl is palpable, and I loved watching their relationship evolve from a fake relationship to a real one. This is an amazing read and one you don’t want to miss out on.
This is the 2nd book in this series but is a standalone. Famous surfer Declan lives with the persona of being a party animal, where his life is completely different. Pearl is following her dream off making it in a male dominated career and ends up as Declan’s fake girlfriend. This is a well written steamy and entertaining read, and I highly recommend for all sport romance lovers.
This book is the first that I’ve read by this author and I didn’t know what to expect. This book is part of a series Aloha Series but can also be read as a stand-alone.
Book #1 = Try Easy.
Book #2 = Try Me.
This book is set in the 1960’s and is set in Hawaii. This is a love story with sports romance mixed in the romance side.
Declan is a very hot and sexy man and is known for being a complete party animal but its all pretend, its all for show. Declan is in quite a slump and has given up on life and his own happy ending, he’s given up on happiness. That is until he meets Pearl. Her smile alone has woke him up.
Pearl loves to surf and has big dreams, dreams of her own that she wants to fulfill on her own merit, but as she is learning being a woman in as male dominated world puts you down a peg to begin with and makes it even more difficult. Pearl cant pass up on any opportunities so when one falls to her she thinks that it will be fine, no problem what could go wrong. The problem is she is pretending, she’s fake dating only its starting to feel very real.
However fate has other ideas. Will fate change there lives for ever?
( NO SPOILERS).
The chemistry between these two is very hot and sexy, they both get more than they bargained for completely. I really enjoyed reading this book and I will definitely go back and read book one because I really liked this author writing style. I really enjoyed the story line and how the author dealt with the issues and also watching if fate would step in for these two characters. I would not normally read a book set so far back but I enjoyed this book and how this author has written it.
Thank you to the author and the publishers for allowing me to read an early copy of this book.
ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.
This book is expected to be released on 12th March 2020
4,5*’s
This was my first book by Jill Brashear and it was really enjoyable. I liked the throwback feel of the story and loved the characters. Declan so flawed. Pearl so poised. Together the were like gasoline on a fire, explosive. Individually they had their demons, together they slayed them. This was a perfectly written love story, the sex sizzled, there was appropriate angst and you could feel the joy radiating out of the pages.
Fantastic!! If you loved the first book then you will love this one even more or just as much. If you didn’t read the first book…no worries you don’t need to read in order. Dive right in!!!! I love the way Jill writes…keeps me wanting more and then getting nothing done!! I did receive a ARC for my honest opinion and I can’t wait for her next book to the series!
Brashear provides a fresh perspective on a crazy little thing called love. Try Me dishes up some spice while taking full aim at the heart. Declan and Pearl are the right people who found their perfect fit at the wrong time. He’s a dreamer. She’s a realist. Both have big plans for their future, but never would either have guessed that those plans would include each other. Flirty makes a splash with an unforgettable, heartbreaker of a read.
Note: While part of a series, the way Brashear has written these this absolutely stands on its own and could be listened to out of order. While Declan makes a small appearance in book 1 and Keoni appears briefly in this one – there are no spoilers in either direction and events occur somewhat concurrently.
Oh my gosh – I loved this. From their meeting Declan & Pearl were perfect for each other. They’re both really interesting characters. Declan is the “bad boy” of surfing who isn’t as bad as the media and his manager make him out to be. A recovering alcoholic struggling with his success in a sport that took the life of a good friend. Pearl is trying to succeed in a male-dominated sport as well as live up to the legend of her mother.
While their love of surfing brings them together and they have amazing chemistry – the fact that they each get to really know the other is what made this so enjoyable to me. There’s a little forced proximity (one of my favorite tropes) when they’re stranded together for a few days. It’s more than the weather that steams up! When they return, they struggle to find how they fit together in “the real world”. This had all the emotions.
I again enjoyed Brashear’s descriptions of Hawaii and surfing. I felt fully immersed in the sport that I’m not that familiar with.
Narration:
I thought Kai Rubio and Emily Woo Zeller were the perfect fit for Declan and Pearl. Both did a wonderful job bringing all the characters to life. Flawless narration that made this so easy to listen to.
Many thanks to Home Cooked Books for the review copy of this audiobook.
Loved this story
The well written storyline and the well defined characters had me hooked from the very beginning! The interaction and the chemistry between Declan and Pearl made this book a very enjoyable and entertaining read!
Try Me is book 2 in the Aloha series and is a stand alone, however, I do want to get my hands on book 1 because I really enjoyed this story! This was a sweet story and one that really had me hooked. I loved the characters and the story line. Pearl was such a strong character and not afraid to go after her dreams. Declan has demons from his past stopping him from really living life, but when he meets Pearl he finally starts to live again.
A great book for sure!

It took me a long time to get into this book and I didn’t realize it was not set in present day. I ended up putting it down at about 20% and didn’t touch it for some time, thinking it was going to be a DNF because it didn’t really suck me in right away. After a few days I picked it back up and finished it. It did get better and caught my interest more as the story went on. I’m glad I did pick it back up again. I loved that he wanted the world for her and supported her blossoming career much to the dismay of their agent/manager.
Try Me is book 2 in the Aloha series and is a stand alone. That being said why not read the series as a whole to get the full Hawaiian experience. I loved this one. You get sexy surfer Declan and Pearl. Declan is head home for a surf competition and is hunted by his past. Pearl is looking to break out as a female surfer. You can’t deny the chemistry between Pearl and Declan as they grow from fake to a real relationship. They have this bond that you will love and feel how Pearl helps Declan heal from his past. This is a fantastic read that will draw you in from the beginning. Go pick this one up today.
