But the desperation in his eyes when he begs her to help him softens her heart and convinces her to bend the rules.

This book is so so fun, and made me laugh out loud on so many occasions. It’s a paranormal romantic comedy, with a world and a cast of characters I can’t wait to further read about. Are you wondering if this book gets a little wild? Well, it does.
This book gives you an action packed punch of humor, hot romance and amazing storytelling. We meet Evie (witch) and Mateo (werewolf) who has a big problem. Evie is a crack hex breaker and Mateo needs her services desperately. As this is the first in the series you are introduced to alot of characters, but it all works really well. You do not get confused and every character is so unique and well fleshed out. Evie and Mateo’s relationship is very intense instantly sucks you. The mystery keeps you guessing with an intricate plot that won’t let you put the book down. The setting is rich with the New Orleans mystique, which makes me wish I could go visit and hang out with Evie and her sisters. I’m really excited for this series and can’t wait till the next one comes out.
I’m delirious! And in love! With Alpha…and Mateo’s not bad either. What a fabulous start of a new series about a group of witch sisters living in the Big Easy. Excellent backdrop for a fantasy series. First up is the hex breaker, Evie. She’s the lovely redhead with sparkling green eyes and a talent that the hunky Mateo needs to break a curse that prevents him from letting his wolf loose. And what a wolf Alpha is. Irreverent, snarky, dirty, sarcastic and always ready for blood and sex, and not necessarily in that order. I cracked up at the running commentary between Mateo and Alpha. The sparks fly right from the start between Evie and Mateo and it’s insta lust for Alpha. Unruly, wild wolf! The romance is a slow burn as the sisters look for a solution to Mateo’s problem mostly because witches don’t trust wolfs. But Mateo slowly wins over the gals with his sweet treatment of Evie. As the sisters learn to trust the Wolfman the romance heats up and it’s heart meltingly delicious and scorching hot! Hose me down! The villain wasn’t that much of a surprise but the twist of a reason was scary as the truth comes out and Evie’s put in danger. I love that Evie figured it out and basically saved herself. Great epilogue. This is a terrific fantasy story with all types of supernaturals and a fantastic family of witches. There’s intriguing bits for future stories with the sisters and possibly love interests. This author always delivers with outstanding writing, fabulous characters and a swoon-worthy romance. I can’t wait for the next story in this series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.
What a great new direction for Juliette Cross’s new series! I love the New Orleans setting and the newest cast of characters. Witches, werewolves, vampires and other paranormal creatures form the basis of the Stay a Spell series. The Savoie sisters are the head of the witches coven of New Orleans and Mateo Cruz, a werewolf with a problem that only Evie Savoie, known hex breaker, can help him with. Nerds and geeks be prepared to get your thrill on as this romantic comedy hits some fun high notes.
While I’ve moved on to contemporary most of the time, my first love will always be paranormal/fantasy. That’s why I was so excited to dive head first into this story!u2060

Mateo and Evie were a fantastic couple that I couldn’t get enough of. Mateo is a werewolf who finds himself desperate for help when magic leaves his inner wolf (“Alpha”) trapped, unable to surface the way he needs to. The confinement has left his wolf irate, and his thoughts are intruding upon Mateo’s own thoughts. Man and wolf are locked in a power struggle that neither enjoys.u2060

Evie is one of the most powerful witches in New Orleans … a renowned hex-breaker, Mateo knows she is the only one who can help him. Despite her family having a strict no-werewolf policy, Evie pledges to help him.u2060

Her favor to him quickly expands when Mateo discovers that her presence leaves his inner wolf calm and relatively quiet. She soothes them both so much that they begin to spend more time together while she figures out how to break his hex.u2060

Mateo and Alpha are almost instantly attached to her, and their loyalty and fidelity to her are formed quickly and they remain resolute. While there is a bit of a struggle with their relationship due to her sisters’ stance on werewolves, it isn’t enough to keep them apart. Soon her family comes around when they see the dedication that shines between them.u2060

Wolf Gone Wild is a riveting paranormal romance set against the backdrop of the mesmerizing city of New Orleans. *4.5 Stars*
If this is what happens when Ms. Cross tries new genres then I will be making lists of things she can try her hand at after this. Wolf Gone Wild was everything I was hoping for!
Evie was the epitome of nerdish quirkiness and I absolutely loved her. She was funny, sweet and sassy.
Mateo, and Alpha his very present wolf part, are in desperate need of Evie’s help. If Mateo is to remain sane, then he needs to break the spell that is keeping him from being able to shift. Alpha is now constantly talking to him and pushing his need for blood and violence on him, making him literally schizophrenic.
Mateo was charming and sexy, with Alpha pushing the protective and possessiveness of a shifter to a whole new level. One of my favorite things in this whole story was Alpha’s interventions in conversations. They mostly had me rolling on the floor from laughing (except the haunted house scene… that one is h.o.t. HOT).
I must confess that I was waiting for a little more action as in other books by Ms. Cross, but the nerdy humor made up for it. There’s also a whole lot of new characters to get to know, as in all of Evie’s sisters, and I just can’t wait to get their stories!
I found Wolf Gone Wild incredibly entertaining and fun. With enough suspense to keep you guessing, hot chemistry and some sexiness, I absolutely adored Evie and Mateo’s (and Alpha’s) story.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book*
Wolf Gone Wild is the first in a new series by Juliette Cross featuring paranormal creatures with action, humor, and romance. I was charmed by the delightful duo of Evie and Mateo.
Mateo has a hex put on him that leaves him unable to shift, but he doesn’t know who did it to him or how to get it removed. Until he’s given the direction of the Sevoie sisters who may be able to help him. The problem? They don’t help werewolves.
I enjoyed Mateo and his interactions with his inner wolf, aptly titled Alpha. They bicker and play off each other so well, and it added another humorous element to the story. They’re both drawn to Evie, the hex-breaker, only Mateo is a little more…civilized about it all. Having him and Alpha determine the way to move forward was delightful to watch, and the few times Alpha took over? More, please!
But as much as I loved Alpha and Mateo, I loved Evie even more. LOVED HER. Her one-liners and the way she viewed things were just so Evie. She won over my nerdy little heart. She’s a huge Marvel fan, unafraid to tell it like it is, and has a vulnerable part to her that rounded her out. Evie wants to help Mateo, but Mateo’s under a hex she’s never seen before.
So begins an adventure through fandoms, haunted houses, magic sessions, and some nerdy dirty talk. Add in a slow burn that builds up a pleasant sizzle all the way through, and it made for a delightful reading experience that I would revisit again and again. And Cross tops it off with a loveable cast that is guaranteed to satisfy paranormal fans. It’s a lighthearted read that elevates all the feels, and I absolutely can’t wait to read more!
Well this author has only gone and given us a Werewolf story that was funny, unbelievably sexy and full of interesting characters. Step forward Evie a Witch with an incredible family who as I write I desperately want to know more about. Oh and did I mention that Evie is obsessed with comics , sci fi and everything else that could delight my nerdy heart ! Evie is sweet but not shy although she’s about to meet not one but two absolutely jaw dropping hot guys or is she ?
Mateo is desperate to find a Witch who can undo whatever weird hex is stopping him from transforming into his Wolfy self ! and slowly going insane as his inner Wolf starts talking to him. Oh dear who am I kidding because Alpha ( yes he definitely has a different personality) is constantly barking both orders and insults at Mateo but things get a lot worse when the violent Alpha gets an eyeful of the one person who just might be able to help and yes you’ve guessed it that’s little Evie !
Werewolves, Witches, Vampires, Grim reapers and a Zombie cat all conspire here to bring this entertaining story to life. For this reader it steadily got better and I’m definitely wanting to read more and if you enjoy quirky but fun paranormal romance then I think you might enjoy this new series too.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair (less)
Wolf Gone Wild is the first book in a brand new series by Juliette Cross. The book stars the Savoie sisters, witches in New Orleans. Of course, with Juliette being one of my favorite authors, there was no doubt that I would devour Wolf Gone Wild!
I absolutely loved Wolf Gone Wild! Mateo Cruz is a werewolf who’s unable to shift and Evie Savoie is a witch who isn’t supposed to help him. Yet, here they are, growing closer everyday as Evie and her sisters try and figure out exactly what happened to Mateo three months ago. The path to releasing Mateo’s wolf is wrought with conundrums, impossibilities, twists and turns, and vexing revelations.
The budding romance is a slow-burn but not so slow you wonder if we’ll ever get there. The author did a spectacular job with Evie and Mateo. His inner wolf was naughty but he knew he wanted Evie from the start; he just needed to convince Mateo. Evie was a bit harder to convince but only because she belonged to a coven that had strict rules against fraternizing with werewolves. Well, I’m a firm believer that you can’t help who you love. Denying Evie a chance at love just because of what Mateo is would have done more harm than good.
I love Juliette Cross’s writing style and the way she tells stories. Her ability to create paranormal stories with romance, action and a solid plot is what keeps me coming back. I can’t wait for the next book in the series – or any book from Juliette Cross.
I was provided a copy of this book to read.
Mateo, Evie and of course, Alpha makes Wolf Gone Wild a simmering, sexy read with a splash of humor throughout.
A fantastic 5 stars!
Wolf Gone Wild is book one in a brand new series by Juliette Cross, Stay A Spell. In this series you are going to meet the Savoie sisters, a group of sisters that just happen to be witches who live in New Orleans.
Evie Savoie is a very talented and powerful witch. She spends her days helping out at the bar/restaurant her oldest sister, Jules owns, The Cauldron, and also at the shop her sister Clara owns, Mystic Maybelle’s. Evie was known as a hex breaker. She has a specific talent and has never met a hex she couldn’t conquer. As a rule, witches avoided werewolves. They were temperamental and unpredictable. Not to mention the whole blood lust thing that happened when they shifted. So you can say she wasn’t thrilled when a werewolf came walking into the bar late one evening when she was already exhausted. This is the last thing she wanted to deal with.
Mateo Cruz has always had complete control over his wolf except during his shift. But something is blocking Mateo from being able to shift. He thinks that somehow a hex has been put on him. It’s been three months. His inner wolf has taken to talking to him, a constant voice in his head. He won’t stop talking.
Mateo has never met any of the Savoie sisters but had heard of Evie’s ability to break hexes. So he sought her out at The Cauldron. What he hadn’t expected was that as soon as he was near her, his wolf quieted.
“Man and beast needed to be near her, and there was nothing in the wide world I could do to deny it. Her proximity was all I needed.”
Evie and her sisters need to figure out just what is keeping Mateo’s wolf locked inside him. Who put a hex on him and why? Mateo wants Evie to spend time with him to calm his wolf. As these two spend time together, they form a bond, a friendship of sorts but more.
“For the first time, I wasn’t content by myself. I yearned for her.”
These two were so adorable. Evie was so full of life but lacked confidence in herself. Something Mateo helped her with. And Evie brought out a side to Mateo he didn’t even know was there, a romantic side, a more fun loving side, even a sappy side because he had fallen hard for her. His adoration gave me butterflies.
I didn’t expect so much humor in this. Mateo’s wolf was hilarious at times. The running monologue drove Mateo crazy. Evie was so full of life, so exuberant. She was so good for Mateo. Werewolves were solitary by nature but she drew him out.
Feelings grew fast and deep but they had to figure out how to free Mateo’s wolf first. After that would he be finished with Evie? Or could they be more? I enjoyed this so much. I loved these sisters. I’m thinking the future books will be about each sister. I’m not sure but if that’s the case, I have my hopes on who will be next. Juliette Cross never fails to amaze me and that’s just what she did with this new series. It’s so different than any of her others and I can’t wait for you to meet Evie and Mateo. I hope you love them just as I did.
I loved Evie and her uniquely talented self! Her siblings also ranged from sweet, to snarky, and one was quite bossy, but the close relationships were obvious from the start. Mateo was a real sweetheart as well, but all those rough and naughty edges?! Some of it was totally Mateo, but I can easily point a finger to Alpha, Mateo’s wolf! Alpha was exactly as his name implied-a bad boy…well, wolf… and he had the naughtiness down pat!
So many details and twists…I don’t want to ruin anything so I think I’ll stop rambling now. I’ll just say this was a freaking awesome read! Wolf Gone Wild was packed with so many delicious moments! I thought I was prepared for Alpha, but Juliette’s novella in the Christmas After Dark anthology was only the tip of the iceberg!
I received an advance reader copy from Netgalley and this is my honest review.
Wolf Gone Wild by Juliette Cross is the First book in the Stay a Spell Series. This is the story of Eveleen ‘Evie’ Savoie and Mateo Cruz. Evie is one of the well known Savoie Sisters in New Orleans by the supernaturals. Mateo has a hex/curse put on him that is causing issues between him and his wolf and he can’t take it anymore. So Mateo is set on getting the Savoie sister to help him. This leads him to met Evie who is the Hex-breaker of the family. But the Savoie Sisters don’t deal with Wolves which is something Mateo is. Evie and Mateo end up starting a friendship of sorts but both are attracted to each other but try to hold that in check for reasons of their own. But of course the sparks take over.
This book had me drawn in from the start. Ms. Cross has a way with her writing that draws you so much into the book. I loved the characters..not just Mateo and Evie. I hope to read more from this author and of course this series. Loved it!
WOLF GONE WILD is the first instalment in Juliette Cross’ contemporary, adult STAY A SPELL erotic, paranormal romance series focusing on the Savoie sisters. This is witch, waitress and aspiring artist Eveleen ‘Evie’ Savoie, and werewolf/ metal sculptor Mateo Cruz’ storyline.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Mateo and Evie) WOLF GONE WILD follows the building relationship between witch, waitress and aspiring artist Evie Savoie, and werewolf/ metal sculptor Mateo Cruz’. Mateo needs help. Someone has cast a spell, and our hero is unable to shift thusly allowing his blood lust to build to extraordinary levels. Hoping the Savoie sisters of New Orleans are able to help, Mateo approaches the witches in an effort to get the ‘hex’ removed. Enter Evie Savoie, witch and Hex-breaker, and the woman with whom Mateo will fall in love. What ensues is the slow building romance and relationship between Mateo and Evie, as Evie and her sisters struggle to unravel the hex that has spelled Mateo into something he’s not.
Evie Savoie is a powerful Hex-breaker but struggles with the spell surrounding the man that she loves. Unable to break through the layers of magic, Evie, along with her sisters Jules, Clara and Violet go in search of something else, a book that quite possible holds the cure to what ails Mateo Cruz. Mateo Cruz is a renowned metal sculptor who owns his own gallery in New Orleans but someone or something has bound Mateo’s powers, powers that are slowly tearing him apart, from the inside out.
The relationship between Mateo and Evie begins as a business arrangement as Evie is forced to work with a man she considers dangerous and dark. Witches and werewolves do not get along but something about Evie calls to Mateo when his Alpha demands Mateo make Evie their mate. The $ex scenes are limited but intimate, erotic and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to three of Evie’s sisters Jules, Clara and Violet; their mother Serena Savoie; Mateo’s assistant Missy; his cousin Nico; fellow artist Sandra; ancient vampire and overlord Ruben Dubois; witch and seer Beryl; numerous employees at the family run bar the Cauldron; Bam, the comic store owner, as well as Mateo’s alter ego-the Alpha; Z and Fred the bow-time wearing rooster.
The world building introduces the Savoie sisters-their personalities, their powers, and the individual specialities, as well as the different supernatural beings that inhabit New Orleans, Louisiana.
WOLF GONE WILD is a story of power and control; of betrayal and vengeance; of family, friendship, romance and love. The premise is imaginative and engaging; the characters are sassy, fun and flirty-there is plenty of non-stop back and forth between Evie and her sisters, as well as between Evie and Mateo, and Mateo and the Alpha; the romance is heart warming and energetic. WOLF GONE WILD is an animated and sensual introduction to Juliette Cross’ STAY A SPELL paranormal, romance series.
***4 Stars***
This was a great start to a new series! It has everything I love about this authors writing from the great world building to bringing to life unique characters I really want to get to know a whole lot better. It was a quick, smexy, a little quirky and fun read that kept me turning the pages until the very end.
Evie was a blast. This girl is sweet, sassy and quirky, but owns every bit of it. I loved her confidence and just how much she loved everything she did. Mateo is a sweetheart. I know, not the first word you’d associate with a werewolf, but he is. He’s charming, has a good heart and is simply a good man…and then there is his Wolf. He is definitely a unique character that brings that alpha AF protectiveness to the forefront, along with no edit button whatsoever.
Mateo and Evie’s journey to their HEA is all kinds of slow burn opposites attract goodness. I really enjoyed watching as they got to know each other and work really hard to deny their oh, so obvious attraction to each other. Their bantering was fun, the chemistry was hot and I loved how they accepted each other’s quirks and simply enjoyed who the other was. The angsty/drama between them is low, which I liked, and though there were a few bumps in their road, I loved how everything worked itself out in the end.
I’m a fan girl of the authors, have been for a while now, and I thoroughly enjoyed this lighter, more humorous side of her writing. The world is vibrant and really has me wanting to visit NOLA ~ and Louisiana in general ~ sooner rather than later ~ especially the Abita Brewery (I got real thirsty for one and had none on hand) and she has brought to life a whole slew of characters I NEED to get to know better. I don’t have an absolute favorite at the moment, but, crazy as it seems, the ones I’m most intrigued by are Clara and Violet ~ trust me when you meet them you’ll totally understand. So, bring on the rest of the series or as they say in the Big Easy laissez les bon temps rouler!

Wolf Gone Wild (Stay A Spell #1) by Juliette Cross is a fun werewolf/witch opposites attract love story and the first in a new series. This is a fun romp in a well-developed world. Mateo is a hot werewolf with a problem that only witch Evie Savoie has a chance to fix. They didn’t count on falling in love. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to following installments.
Even better than I imagined it would be!
Our main characters are Mateo and his inner wolf Alpha, talented sculptor, werewolf and suffering from a curse that won’t let him shift. Then we have Evie… total nerdy babe who is a witch, a hex breaker, from the most powerful witch coven in Louisiana, and she is going to break the curse that has been put on Mateo.
I had so much fun reading this book! not only is Mateo a dream boat but as mentioned above Evie is a talented nerdy babe and I am so here for it. (She is a SW fan & a Reylo so that automatically made me adore her even more!) The romance was steamy, all of the characters had distinct personalities and the storyline was fun. I honestly can’t remember the last time I enjoyed a paranormal romance/ Urban fantasy so much and I can’t wait to pick up the next books to come in the series. I need them in paperback for sure!
Absolutley 5 Stars. If you like Witches, werewolves, and vampires then I highly suggest this book for you.
Mateo is a lone wolf living in New Orleans. Literally. Like he is a werewolf. He’s a well-known metal sculptor and up until now life has been treating him well. But something is very wrong: for the past three months, Mateo hasn’t been able to shift. His wolf has been caged. And a caged wolf is not happy. The only explanation for that is that he has been cursed. He has no idea how that happened but he needs to get this fixed because he feels that the wolf is about to lose his shit and do something really dangerous. So, he looks for a hex-breaker. The only problem is that hex-breakers are witches and witches and werewolves are not exactly in friendly terms. But he is desperate… and afraid that if the wolf takes control he will do something unforgivable.
Enter Evie – the hex-breaker witch. She’s a Star Wars fanatic, happy-go-lucky witch who takes pity when she sees that Mateo not only can be very dangerous, but that he is in pain. And he is hot AF, let me just put it there.
So, she convinces her family that they should help the poor wolfman. The thing is, Alpha, his inner wolf, is really attracted to Evie… and so is Mateo. Will he able to resist the little witch?
I absolutely loooooooooooved this book! It’s my favorite type of paranormal romance! It’s funny and rom-com-y and I love it! The banter between Evie and Mateo is witty, funny and sexy, but the best thing ever is the banter between Mateo and his inner wolf, Alpha. Alpha is hilarious, crass, dangerous, but so so much fun.
If you are fan of Molly Harper (whose books I read back when they came out, but apparently they are popping out again), you will love this series. Highly recommend!
When searching for his cure from the curse the last thing that Mateo expected was to find love in a witch. Evie is from a powerful witch family who doesn’t approve of warwolves, but they all make an exception for Mateo. We meet the whole interesting wild quirky family. In searching for a solution and perpetrator Evie and Mateo fall in love. Great funny story that starts a new paranormal series.
Mateo has been unable to shift for three months. He needs someone’s help to break the curse that’s put on so out of desperation he seeks out a powerful witch who specializes in hex breaking. The only problem is the one witch that can help him always obeyed the house rules of her coven. That rule is no werewolves! Evie can see the desperation in his eyes when he begs for her to help. She finds herself caving in and saying yes. Now it’s a race against time for Evie and her coven to break the curse before Mateo goes insane.
Little bit of a confession here: I’ve had this book for a while but hadn’t read it. I was hoping to wait until more of the series had released so I could just binge read it (I blame Netflix for my binge craze) but when the third book came out and I opted to review it, I knew my time of waiting to read Wolf Gone Wild was over. So, I grabbed my Kindle and settled in for what I expect to be a pleasant read.
Annnnd now it is 2:30am! Good thing it’s the weekend because once I started reading, it was hard to stop. Wolf Gone Wild was freaking great! The characters were just so loveable, colorful, and unique. I loved the world building and how it all came together. The plot hooked me from the very beginning and had me guessing until the very end. Oh, not about Mateo and Evie. That I knew was going to be a done deal. The connections they had had me flopping back and forth from laughing to sighing. Nope, what had me guessing and just making this book so hard to put down was who cursed Mateo! FYI…I guessed wrong.
I can already tell this Stay A spell series is going to be a new addiction for me. Why, you might ask. Because of all the characters! Evie’s sister witches, vampires, werewolves, Grims, and even a zombie cat add so much flavor and brilliance to the story, I just want to get to know them all. I can’t wait to see what comes next for this crazy bunch. This is one series not to be missed.
