Kind of sad. I was hoping for a slightly different ending, but keeps you guessing.
Nara is watching friends and family mourn her at her funeral. She’s dead but she doesn’t remember dying. They say she committed suicide but that doesn’t seem right. She sees Aaron and remembers he was her boyfriend, and she sees her best friend Renee, but they seem awful chummy and they keep sneaking into her house looking for something. Did one or the other, or both working together kill her? She has to find out. Then another boy named Dylan confronts Aaron and she remembers that Dylan is her soul mate. So what was going on? But she can only learn so much because she is trapped in the house and can’t hear what people say when they leave, and no one can hear her. Only the family cat can see her. Then she gets angry, creates a strong wind that throws things around, and her sister, aunt and Rene realize she is in the house as a ghost or spirit. Now each, for a different reason, want to help her, but at what cost? Then Dylan dies the night of her funeral after arguing with Aaron and now he is trapped on the outside of her house and she on the inside. She just wants to be with him and find out if she was murdered. Something or someone is controlling events and it is up to her female family members to find out, or she and Dylan will forever be trapped, and apart for eternity. Although I was unhappy about the story in the beginning, after continuing the story, I’m glad I did.
Although different from the 1st two books, it was an amazing journey.
Nara’s character is sweet yet immature but it gave her all the better story she earned. And I love how the previous stories characters are in the story and and apart of the daring storyline.
Just amazing!

I never thought a book about a dead girl would draw me in, but this one does. This book has a well plotted and unique story line, carefully crafted characters, and tons of emotion.

Dead girls have less fun!
Nara wakes up dead with no memory of how she got there. It’s like she has amnesia. Today is her funeral – complete with a traditional New Orleans style Jazz Funeral Parade – which she has to watch from her house. She might as well be grounded since she can’t leave her house and she doesn’t understand that any more than she understands why she is dead in the first place.
After the funeral, everyone trails back to her house but no one can see her, not even her parents and little sister Chloe; the only people she remembers. Nara decides that maybe finding out how she died and recovering her memory is the key to leaving her house so she sets out on a mission of discovery. It will be easier once she learns some ghostly skills. Along the way she encounters danger, rediscovers romance and many truths – some nice and some nasty – and discovers magic she never knew existed.
This is the first book I have read in this series and I am looking forward to reading the first two books. I received a free copy but my review is honest and voluntary.
Excellent book by a first class author. This is the third book in the series and it just goes from strength to strength. I think the mark of a truly great author is when you can comfortably put yourself in their hands, so to speak, trust them in the journey that they want to take you , knowing that your are most certainly going to have the ride of or your life.
One such author is Debra.
Wow this read had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. This Author has penned a fantastic read with epic scenes, I was on the edge of my seat as well as I couldn’t put it down until I was finished. The story flows great and the world building is fantastic as well as the Character building, I definitely recommend.

This book is about Miri’s daughter, Nara. Nara happens to find herself dead without her full memories, so she sets out to find out how she died. Like the ghost angle and Nara not having her full memories of her life and what led to her death; cool angle. She’s trapped in her house, so she’s becoming frustrated that she can’t really communicate with her family or figure out what exactly is happening. As the story progresses, Nara’s memories begin to come to her, but she’s definitely in for some surprises. There’s also a bit of a sweet romance going on. Liked the connection between Dylan and Nara. I’m so very disappointed in Miri in this book; especially after what Miri’s mother did to her, Miri is doing now to her family. Also, after all the years together, Miri is still keeping Phillip in the dark about witches and such; he has every right to know when his kids are involved. Very disappointed in her; her actions have caused so many issues that could’ve been avoided. This book does move too slowly for me at times; too much time spent on the same types of things, but there are some fun elements. Nara is a tough cookie too and I like her sass. She handles some difficult things pretty well. The series is enjoyable and unique.
For someone who has studied and research grief this is a fascinating approach to viewing the journey of death. This book takes a Creole approach with witches and creatures. it allows one to understand the dynamics of family through the lens of death. Nice summer read.
One of my favorite quotes:
“But most importantly, I’m happy. Everything came down to choices and new horizons, and I chose wisely.”

Awesome story, hooks you with authors ability to develop her characters so well. Everything builds up to Nara finding out how/why she died and reader is Not left disappointed, everything explained and ties together, nice.
This series just gets better with each book. Nara finds herself dead, but not moved on to the afterlife. She is trapped in her family home. No-one can see or hear her and she can’t remember what happened. It seems that until she does remember, nothing will change. Her family is grieving, as is her supposed boyfriend and her best friend. But there is another guy to whom she is drawn. Until she can sort out what is happening, no-one (including herself) is going to move on.
I started this book then life happened and got in the way but I made time to get back to it and Kristi didn’t disappoint. I did struggle with Miri in this book because she’s what drew me to the series to begin with something about her just sucked me in but my girl did a turn around and went back to the character I loved. I felt like things I had left unanswered from book 1 made a little more sense in this book and it ends on such a great cliffhanger that your thirsting for that next book.
Another amazing story in the Gifted Girl Series to touch your life. All the same characters told from yet another persons point of view. Only this one has more personal struggles than the other two combined. These books show the true spirit of a family bond and how no matter what happens you can always count on family. This is the story of Nara, Miri and Philips daughter who has suffered a tragedy and needs the help of her family to get through. There are secrets and shady characters and lots of drama to get your attention. This book as all the others are definitely worth the read and in one way or another extremely relatable.

Nara is dead but she doesn’t know how she ended up like this. She has only memories of her immediate family, but beyond that she doesn’t recognize people. How did she ended up stuck in limbo? She attends her own funeral after party because the house keeps her from leaving. Is she still here because of unfinished business? She must figure out how she ended up dead, because they all believe that she killed herself. The only one who might help is her little sister Chloe, who seems to feel her presence. The more Nara finds out about her past, the more unpleasant things start to happen to her family. Until recently her best friend Dylan joins her in limbo. Together they must fight the dark forces and even an ancestor is rearing her ugly head again, or is she? Family secrets come to light , Nara fights a battle against the darkness, will she win the fight?
I enjoyed the book from beginning to ending, even though the beginning confused me a little bit, but it was made clear further up the story. I like this view on life from the other side, it’s rather unique and have different expectations. Will Nara get the answers she seek? Love the snippets of Nara’s life unfolding when she was still alive, throughout the story. And what is the connection she feels between Dylan and Aaron? The romance here, gets a really kick in the butt.
If you like the magical and voodoo feeling of New Orleans, this is the place to be. This is a story where witches battle witches.
Nara at first doesn’t remember too much about the life she lived, and has to muddle through her afterlife a bit confused, while she figures out things. Glimpses and memories that she gets are sometimes leaving more questions than answers. I enjoyed this thought provoking, step into a young woman, who’s life was ended before she was ready. It had enough angst, secrets and a bit of romance to keep me interested, and I needed the answers as to what happened and had to find out. Nara is an easy to like person, with some strong women in her family.
This is the 3rd in the Gifted Girl series but can be read and enjoyed as a stand alone. This book takes place several years after the first two and from a perspective I didn’t expect but found myself drawn in just the same.
It was interesting enough that I read it in one sitting. It also makes me impatient for the next.
In the third installment, Nara is a teen who has now become a ghost in her own home. She is the oldest daughter of Miri and Phillip. She cannot remember how she died or who killed her. She floats around the house observing everyone and what they say and do. Her best friend Renee, ex-boyfriend Aaron, another spirit of the boy she loves, Dylan, her mom, Aunt Belle, grams, great-grams, dad and sister Chloe each have a piece to play to fit together a current puzzle that someone else is manipulating. Nara will have a huge choice to make, along with an ancestor’s help. It will be the choice of finding eternal rest or saving her loved ones…which will it be? I received this as an ARC and am leaving a voluntary review.
