Isolde, having grown up in the shadow of her beautiful cousin and best friend, feels that she has nothing to offer when it comes to the marriage mart. Jonathan, Duke of Ekhard, feels she is all that he never knew he wanted.
We follow the two through their early courtship. Amid betrayal and self deprecation, will these two prevail?
I highly recommend this story to my fellow regency romance lovers.
Patricia does not disappoint.
If you were ever the shy, timid sort who had a low opinion of yourself you will definitely empathize with Osolde. She was always the wallflower at balls and really though she was too plain to ever have a man marry her. It did not help that her two best friends were really pretty and vivacious. She was always picked on by a couple of girls at the balls and the current ball was no exception! They truly enjoyed making her miserable.
Well at this ball those miserable creatures really had her in tears =and then the unthinkable happened–a gentleman intervened. She had no idea she knew him until a few days later–he did not recognize her either. Neither had thought to ask the other their names!
Isolde was always having trouble believing that he could actually have feelings for her and it was a constant battle for him to prove himself.
Lots of things happen to separate these two-including an untrue rumor started–then bring them back together. It was almost a disaster until his Mother wrote a letter to her Father–
Yes, there is a happily ever after!! Oh how I love Historical Romances–I loved this one and am sure you will too!!
Loved the book! A sweet romance of a shy, timid young woman. Isolde Gordon has never been one to stand up for herself. She was taunted and ridiculed by others of the ton. One night she finds herself being teased by Miss York and Miss Portsmouth. As she ran from the house she fell and was caught by a handsome stranger. Neither knew who the other was until they met several weeks later and Jonathan Allen, the Duke of Ekhard realized Isolde was none other than the shy girl he had once taught to ride. She was his best friend Eric Gordon’s sister! As time goes by they fall in love only to find out her father has agreed for her to marry his older business partner Mr Downey. Jonathan tells Isolde they will find a way out of this for he loves her and wants to marry her. On Christmas Eve Isolde, while walking with her best friend Olivia and her cousin Henrietta she is confronted in the park by Mr York and Mr Portsmouth who tell Isolde Jonathan had made a wager he would win over the ugly duckling. Devastated Isolde agreed to wed Mr Downey. Jonathan, confused vows to get to the bottom of the story. Can Jonathan find out who began the awful rumor and stop Isolde from making the biggest mistake of their lives?
A very clean romance. A shy, timid, taunted wallflower meets her knight in shining armor. Miss Isolde Gordon has had a rough life being timid and shy has made her the target of mean ugly spiteful debutante bullies who have no compulsion is slinging insults and nasty comments to her face out in the public. She has a kind, compassionate heart and hates conflict of any sort. She does not consider herself attractive nor passable. Even though others tell her different. One evening after such a serious embarrassing taunting incident a young man comes to her rescue and makes her promise to stand up for herself. Jonathan Allen, Duke of Ekhard cannot forget the young lady he helped. They never exchanged names. But she is in his thoughts. He has been away from England for many years only now returning to take up his title and responsibilities. When going out with his childhood friend Eric Gordon, he realizes that Isolde is the young lady he helped. She responded in kind to the pleasant surprise and coincident. The story chronicles Jonathan’s growing affections for Isolde. Unfortunately, Isolde has so many insecurities that prevent her from having a full and meaningful relationship with Jonathan. Then the unthinkable happens. Isolde immediately believes the monsters that told her something so bad about Jonathan she falls apart. Refusing to speak to him, Isolde is guarded by her best friend Olivia and her dearest cousin Henrietta. Jonathan is determined to get to the bottom of it and finally does. It is shocking. At the same time Isolde’s father betroths her to his elderly partner. She does not want him; she wants Jonathan but that is now ruined. A complicated mess full of drama and emotion. A good read.
