You can leave this world behind through the pages of a book, but what do you do when reality has become so deadly there’s no escaping it? Emily Hart owns a boutique bookstore, and her life is far from exciting. As she struggles to keep the floundering business afloat, she soon finds herself immersed within a mystery that could only be found in story books. What starts with a dead body in her hotel … starts with a dead body in her hotel room spins out of control as Emily discovers she’s being watched. Multiple attempts on her life push her to her limit and she must learn to trust the one person who appears more dangerous than those after her—Max Locke.
Max is a highly skilled bodyguard who does what it takes to keep his clients safe- even if it means taking a few lives in the process. The task of surveilling Emily was a simple request, all he had to do was report her activity to his boss. His strategy of keeping his distance is thrown out the window when his assignment morphs into protective services. Additionally, no one will tell him the reason she needed supervision in the first place which only adds to his frustration.
When Max finds himself developing feelings for Emily, keeping her safe becomes more than just a job. Will he unearth the source of her threats before it’s too late?
Will he ever become more than just her deadly defender?

Hands down my favorite novel in the Securitech Series. The characters are witty and sharped tongued and have an instant attraction they both deny. But you need to read it for yourself to know why a book store owner needs protecting at all.
Her life is easy and fairly boring but it is about to change but time when a dead body is found. Several attempts are made in her life and he is the only one who can keep her safe. Is he more dangerous than he seems? See how they get on

I really loved reading Her Deadly Defender! It’s a book I was happy to get lost in. I was really able to relate to Emily and even though I got frustrated with her a few times I loved her character! I really enjoyed seeing the story through both Emily’s and Max’s point of view. The story had me hooked from the first page and continued to throughout the whole book!

Exhilarating. Strong characters and this book started off running. I loved the mystery and danger aspect to this book. The angle of protector bodyguard was definitely enjoyable. I liked the continued connection to Securitec but also that it wasn’t too close or too far away from the first book. It is a great standalone, but it isn’t too standalone for me to appreciate the first book and it’s connections. I cannot WAIT for the third installment!!

This is the second clean mystery-romance in a series about people at Securitech, Inc, a fictional security firm. I enjoyed this book even more than the first in the series.
Emily, a shy, relatable bookstore owner, is searching for answers about her dead mother while trying to fight off investors who want the prime piece of real estate where her bookstore sits. Securitech assigns Max to protect her but won’t explain why. The bodyguard is ex-military and emotionally distant–at least, he tries to be.
Tension suffuses the story, making it hard to put down. Emily’s life is in constant danger, and Max barely saves Emily from the unknown threat stalking her several times. The story doesn’t have any gratuitous violence or gore; instead, it reminds me of one of Alfred Hitchcock’s psychological thrillers. The pacing is balanced with sparks of humor, romantic interludes, and insights into the main characters.
For most of my life, I’ve avoided romance as a genre. I didn’t care for the over-the-top emotional displays or the unrealistic (to me) heroes who always knew exactly the right thing to say or do to connect with the heroine. This author has introduced me to a subset of the genre I didn’t know existed. I love how Max sometimes puts his foot in his mouth, how he struggles to express his feelings. The characters feel like real people to me.
Despite warming up to love stories, I still enjoy characters dodging bullets and outwitting bad guys. These books let me enjoy both!
I love this book! Bookish Emily thinks she will be able to relax and take in a little sun poolside in Florida. She is wrong. It takes her awhile to be convinced she is being followed but we have no idea by who. Most importantly her new bodyguard has no idea who he is protecting her from either. What started out as a surveillance job now has Max Locke in full protection mode 24/7. His employer, Securitech, won’t tell him who hired them because it shouldn’t matter, he has a job to do. But it tries him to no end that Emily has no idea how serious things really are and the best thing for her would to be put on a leash. Since the beyond dreamy (I was secretly hoping this would turn into a steamy bondage read just to further my imagination of Max along, but no it’s ‘clean’.) So since the very dreamy Max has to keep Emily safe without a leash he goes under the ruse of being her cousin that is fixing up things at her, almost out of business, Bookshop. Anyone that comes in and out of the shop’s stacks could be the troublemaker. Being this involved with a client is not Max’s cup of tea and he notices his loyalties are starting to blur. He needs to protect the girl , try not to fall in love with the girl, and keep his career.
There is romance, but it isn’t your face, tension from the get go. THERE is suspense, thrills, fires, kidnappings, and all the other things that make yours truly, gasp aloud.
