Don’t start reading this one at bedtime, or you’ll be up all night! If you’ve read the first book in this series, know that this is a worthy sequel. Copper is having a bit of trouble adjusting to her new “normal” life. When her dead mother is accused of murdering a policeman, Copper returns to Paradise to search for the truth. Marcy McKay’s skillful writing propels you right through the book. I feel like I know these well-drawn characters and will miss them while waiting for the next book. I received this book free and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.
Copper Daniels life grabbed ahold of my heart in a way I have never experienced before in Marcy McKay’s debut, Pennies From Burger Heaven. That book touched me in the most profound way. I believe that Copper Daniels will live with me forever and I will never look at the homeless without thinking of Copper and her story.
It’s been a long wait, but well worth it!!
Marcy McKay has now brought Copper Daniels back in an extraordinary sequel, Bones And Lies Between Us.
Copper is off the streets and living a “normal life” with her Uncle P, but when she sees the morning’s headline.
“Prostitute accused of killing cop”, Copper decides to Re-enter her former life on the run, trying to clear her mama’s name.
This book was every bit as spectacular as the first, fast paced, hair raising drama at its finest.
Can Copper clear her mama’s name while staying ahead of the killer and out of sight of her Uncle P?
I’m an avid reader, however, I cannot think of another individual who has embedded themselves into my very heart and soul as Copper Daniels, she will forever be my little homeless girl who knows no fear.
As Copper says. “I may have grown up out here with the dead, but life is for living.”
I love Marcy McKay’s writing style. I’ve never read an Author That captivates me like she can with such intrigue and enthusiasm.
Wow! This sequel was well worth the wait. Copper Daniels might just be eleven, but she’s a big character with bigger problems. It’s impossible not to root for her as she faces the horrible past she inherited from living on the streets with her mother. Once again, Copper is pulled back to the seedy part of Paradise and must use all her cleverness and wits to prove her mother’s innocence (who is accused of murder).
I just love Marcy McKay’s writing style and Copper is one of the most original characters I’ve ever read. “Bones and Lies Between Us” is just as tense and breathtaking as “Pennies From Burger Heaven” was. I can’t wait for book 3 of the series. Do yourself a favour and put these 2 books (and don’t forget to include the novellas “Stars Among the Dead” and “The Moon Rises at Dawn”) on your TBR list, right at the top.
My Christmas tree is still up because I could not put this book down. A fan of the Copper Daniels character from Marcy McKay’s first book, “Pennies from Burger Heaven”, I should have known this second novel would keep me up reading until the gripping end. This book provides rich glimpses into each character as the story unfolds. Copper and her band of friends, family and enemies traverse a winding path throughout the story that keeps the reader guessing until the end. The storyline moves quickly as new clues and discoveries are uncovered. McKay’s writing is sharp, honest and compelling. This book will linger in your thoughts long after the final page and leave you patiently waiting for the next glimpse into Copper Daniels’ life.
A fitting sequel to the previous book. It was a fast paced, intense story. Copper annoys me a bit with her running off and always getting hurt. I did enjoy the story
I’ve been completely hooked on everything in Copper Daniels’ life since Marcy’s first installment of her story in Pennies from Burger Heaven. So, to say this second full length volume has been long awaited is an understatement! Through Marcy’s incredibly empathetic writing, we’re taken headlong into the mind of the redheaded teen, and as with many, if not all teens, it’s an emotional ride… but one I would NOT miss!
My goodness, this book keeps you on the edge of your seat! I was so excited to meet Copper Daniels again: She now had a home, a family, she was okay. Then things began to happen quickly. As you run with Copper through Paradise again you will laugh, sob, love, and above all: hope.
I’m so thankful to Mrs. McKay for bringing this amazing young girl to life. She is truly remarkable and reminds me of what a gift each day is. I love her unique viewpoint!
I hadn’t read the other one that the other readers have mentioned here but you don’t need to. It will grab your attention from page one and you won’t be able to put it down until you get to the last page. You won’t be disappointed and will never lose interest. Awesome book from a truly amazing talented writer.
Bones and the Lies Between Us caught my attention on the first page and kept me reading to the very end. Although I had not read the first book in the series, I could keep up with the action. This is novel is so well-written that it works very well as a stand-alone book.
Copper Daniels is a feisty, young protagonist who has had a harsh existence and has the scars and vocabulary to prove it. Determined to clear her mom’s name, she runs away from home and straight into trouble with gangs, frenemies, and adults who think they are helping.
Given the age of the protagonist, the setting and circumstances of this book are darker and grittier than I expected. Nonetheless, this book is very compelling.
I received an advanced review copy of this book. This is one of the best books I’ve read this year.
Cooper Daniels lost her mother and her father is in prison. Her mother was accused of murdering a police officer. Copper does not feel her mother was capable of murder. Cooper is living with her uncle, her mother’s brother. Cooper runs away to prove her mother’s innocence. She runs into gangs bent on killing her. This has a heart pounding conclusion.
After four months Cooper is still trying to adjust to her new life as a regular girl. But when the news that her mother is the number one suspect in the murder of a police officer all her world turn upside down and she must start a journey to uncover the truth, even if it’s a dangerous one. A tough story with love, friendship, family and everything in between. You can put the book down until the end.
