How do you deal with a life you don’t want and a future you’re terrified of?Run.That’s what I’ve planned to do for years; run from this narrow world I was born into. Run from the friends I love, but who bind me to the roots I want to leave behind. Run, towards the anonymity I so desperately crave, to a place where no one knows who I am; where no one cares who my family are.But something happened … are.
But something happened that changed all of my plans. My best friend, my sister, fell off her pedestal and hit the ground with a crash.
Now I realise I’m not as ready as I thought I was to run from this life and these people.
Maybe I need the roots that I thought were holding me back, that were actually just stopping me from floating away.
I’m a Scion, one of the elite. I was born into this life, but I crave more.
Everything that’s happened in the last year has shown me that I need my roots, but I want to spread my wings too.
College, boys, adulthood, it’s all calling my name and it’s time to figure out who I am.
My name is Emmy Devereaux and I’m so much more than just the daughter of the president of The Doomsday Sinners MC.

Wings and roots is the third book in the scions series. They are all available on kindle unlimited. This is Emmy’s story and the boy who has always been there for her.
Sometimes the people closest to you are the people you don’t always see. Emmy and Griff are best friends. They are the teens of the Doomsday MC. Their lives have never been ordinary even though Emmy wants to know what a mundane life would be like.
Emmy grew up with the club as her family. Now she wants to spread her wings. When it’s time to bite the bullet and choose a college. Emmy realises her priorities have changed. She wants to stay close to her friends. The Doomsday teens decide to stay together and choose a college that accommodates them all.
Emmy has always had her head in a book but when she moves away from her family. She can be just her rather than the daughter of the club. Boys are on her radar but the one who could hold the key to her future is closer than she realises.
This is a sweet romance. Griff is all man but when it comes to Emmy he struggles to get it right. I like this author and this book is a good new addition to the world she’s created.
4 stars out of 5. *I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
In this installment of this series we follow the gang to college we find the gang as close as they ever have been. We finally find out who the shy and retiring Emmy is. She is struggling to find her place and herself but she makes friends outside of the group and also has a couple of love interests sniffing round and even dates before she realises what everyone else around her have know for awhile…. Enter Griff… oh and what an entrance.. Always there for her , for cuddles, best friend duties and warning boys away from her. We find out that his feelings don’t run as best friend feelings and like Emmy he struggles with his feelings toward her and he goes all out to finally win here over. Along with the rest of the gang we also carry on with their journey as they are so closely linked. I have waited for Emmy and Griff’s story since book 1 and it definitely didn’t disappoint.
The third book in the Scion’s series and Gemma Weir has outdone herself. I cannot get over how much this authors writing has progressed and developed since she started her writing journey and it really shows in this wonderful instalment to this series.
Wings and Roots was perfect. Emmy is on a journey of self discovery. she thinks she knows what she wants from life, and had everything planned in her head. But then the doubts start to creep in. Emmy, Griff and the other Scion’s are all off on their next stage in life. Off to college together.
Emmy is determined to spread her wings and learn more about herself… But sometimes you don’t always see what is right on your doorstep.
Griffin is wonderful. He’s patient, caring and determined to get Emmy to really see what it right in front of her. I loved the characters and loved how their close bond was explored and developed throughout the story.
The book was a complete emotional rollercoaster which had me hooked from the first to last page!
Loved it!
All the what-ifs in the world
” you shout, you cry, you fight, but you don’t run”
Emmy always felt like she was missing something. She always felt like a little star whose light was eclipsed by the brightness that was being a child of the Sinners – one of its scions. So sure the world never really saw her. The friend you kept at your side that made you shine all the more. She has a plan though one that will let her test her wings, let her shine. Seems little Emmy did not take into account the Scions when she planned her great escape.
When our little family finally takes flight together she gets a chance to explore and what she finds is … well, you are just going to have to take this journey for yourself.
“Roots and wings. I’ve got you shortcake. Always have always will.”
Awww, Griff, you big teddy bear what took you so darn long?
Griff has always had Emmy. She was there beside him since the day he arrived on the steps at Uncles – Shattered, but not broken – She has been his solid, his companion, his.
He almost lost her before and he isn’t going to risk it again. What would be the point of living in a world without his Shortcake?
I am gonna admit I shed a few of those silent blurry eyes tear with this one.
Growing up, Finding yourself.
One of the hardest things life will ever throw at you.
Weir has touched on so many of the emotions that plaque those years between wanting to stay rooted in what is familiar and wanting to spread your wings and find who you are.
One of those rare young adult/new adult series that I can honestly recommend
I need a few to gather my emotions
Maybe a pint of Ben n Jerry’s then I’ll be back to write my review

After reading Hidden and Found, my first books from this author I was really looking forward to this book as I was excited to see how this story played out.
I’m going to be honest whilst I did enjoy this one I was slightly confused for the first half of the book as I was beginning to think it wasn’t going to go the way I thought it was and Emmy was slightly winding me up with her attitude and judgements on her friends, town and life. I felt like the big feelings reveal and mini drama was rushed towards the end and I would have liked to have read more from Griffin’s POV.
Im not saying I wanted their relationship and feelings rushed, I did like the slow-burn of them but I would have liked to see more interactions and pushing the boundaries of their friendship and less of Van and Kent.
This being said Gemma did a great job of showing how you can believe one thing until your eyes are opened to another belief of truth. A great tale of self-discovery which is what college is about.
I am looking forward to what is brought next from this series
Emmy is the daughter of the Doomsday Sinners MC president. Their group is called the Scions, the children of the Doomsday Sinners, is what the other kids from school call them.
Opening the college letters with her friends she knows being accepted to Dartmouth was her dream, but she lets her friends know she’s not going there, explaining she’s changed. They decide to all go to the same college and take road trip to check out the colleges.
Griffin knows that all he wants to do is protect Emmy, he should let her go but wants to hold her tighter, so she doesn’t drift away again, wanting to keep her in their lives without clipping her wings.
Emmy’s happy her and Griffin are back to how they used to be, she could rely on him, he knows she’s worried about college and wants to find herself; the one constant is Griffin, he anchors her.
Griffin knows he’s in love with Emmy, but she’s the president’s daughter. When he sees Emmy dating other guys, he knows he’s not going to lose her, everyone knows how he feels about her except her. When Emmy decides to run again Griffin knows he has to take a chance and let her know how he feels about her but will she feel the same and work out that what she wants from life has been in front of her the whole time.
Emmy Devereaux’s dad is the President of the Doomsday Sinners MC and she has been referred to as a Scion as long as she has been in school along with her best friends. Now all she wants is to get a fresh start as far away from the club as she can but she’s still not ready to leave her best friends behind.
Griffin Bennett has been best friends with Emmy since they were children and has been living with his brother Deke since his parents died. Griffin loves the MC life and is excited to be part of a large family that has each other’s backs. He has noticed Emmy slipping away lately and is scared of losing her.
When the group heads to Hayhurst College, Emmy wants to be her own person and begins spending more time away from her friends. When Emmy begins dating will Griffin be able to show Emmy that it’s possible to have both wings and roots before he loses her?
This is such a great follow up to the two previous books and I am definitely sad that we will be waiting awhile for another book on Zeke.
I really liked Emmy but I was frustrated at how fast she was trying to leave the past behind. I loved her close friendships with Nova, Zeke, Griffin and Valentine but even in the previous book she was distancing herself from them. I was a little mad at Emmy when she wanted to keep her new friendships to herself as she thought she was “less” of a person than Nova.
I really liked Griffin but I understood why he was so hesitant to let Emmy know how he felt given who her father is and the fact that she didn’t want to be a Scion anymore. I could only imagine how hurt he was every time that Emmy brushed him off for one of her new friends, especially the boys Kent and Van.
There were so many good moments between Zeke and Griffin about Griffin’s feelings towards Emmy. I also loved when Zeke also talked to Emmy about why the Sinners treat their women the way they do and how it really made her look at things differently.
I was pretty worried for Griffin as he was so afraid to let Emmy know how he really felt and he thought he could show her a little with his actions but it never seemed to help. I hated that Emmy always seemed to invite Kent and it never allowed Griffin to open up.
The end with Emmy’s run was so great in what happened after and how Emmy really realized how much she had there for her in her life!! I loved it and I really want a book with Zeke!

OMG! Another great book, Emmy and Griffs story is absolutely amazing. The Scions all coming together to go off to college is priceless. Always having each other’s backs is simple what they know and how they handle life. But only Em and Griff are on the outside looking in, so lost on their feelings and missing all the signs that they are totally in love with each other. While one wants to run from her small town life to the other not feeling good enough. The way they have held their feelings in for so long, not knowing if the other is simple imagining the want from the other. To finally being pushed to the brink and having the love reciprocated and the know that as long as they have each other and the Scions nothing else matters. Can’t wait for the next book even if it will be awhile. Gemma you are amazing and thank you for bringing the series into my life. Love every last one of them
Loved this book! The entire series is absolutely amazing! Highly recommend!
Oh. My. Days! Five huge stars for this book!! I freaking love The Sinners MC and this second generation series has blown my mind, and my heart! Nova and Valentine’s story literally broke my heart but she is way stronger than she realises.
With the fall out from that, it brought The Scions so much closer together. Now they are heading to college but Emmy is still uncertain, unsure of herself and what she truly wants.
I don’t want to say any more because I don’t want to give spoilers, just trust me! You need to read this book!! I can tell you this though, my heart went through the wringer! Tears were shed!

My favorite book to date by this author
I am loving this spin-off series from Archers Creek, I love MC romance but following the next generation has also been brilliant.
Wings & Roots ticked all my boxes. I love a childhood to adult romance, I love a protective male character and I absolutely adore a coming of age best friends to lovers story.
The Scions as they were known in their High school, children of the Doomsday sinners are ready to fly the nest and move to college, they make a decision to all move to the same college together. These are five characters that have a close bond with each other but none of them are as close to each other as Griff and Emmy who have had a special bond since the age of 8.
I loved the slow-burn in this story although the romantic in me got frustrated and I wanted Griff and Emmy to get together sooner but these were two best friends who were afraid to act on their feelings, Emmy brushed her feelings aside and was excited at the prospect of a new life away from home where no one knew wh she was or who her family was, while Griff was reaching the point of boiling especially when Emmy was starting to get interest from the Male students from college, back in their hometown no one dared to approach the daughter of the MC president but college away from home was a whole new ball game and Griff had to make a decision to either confess his love or lose her to someone else.
I didn’t want it to end, I was totally engrossed in this story which was brilliantly balanced by the author with just the right amount of angst and interest in the plot to keep me turning the pages.
I cannot wait for more from Gemma Weir, I will be eagerly awaiting her next book.
Wings and Roots is about self-discovery, accepting your roots and in the process, learning to fly. Beautiful!
Told in first person dual pov. Can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend experiencing the dynamics of the close friendships these characters have with one another and their background so I would suggest starting with book one in this series
Wings & Roots by Gemma Weir is book 3 in The Scions Series. This is the story of Griffin and Emmy. I have read the previous books which added to my enjoyment of this one but you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so. Griffin and Emmy have grown up together as friends with their family in the Doomsday MC. Griffin is a little older but he knows that he loves Emmy. Emmy is on the verge of a turning point about going to college and what or where to go with her life. Thinking most of the time to leave what she knows behind even though everything is good there but to try a new start But her feelings for Griffin are mixed and unsure what he seems to fell.
This was a sweet young love read with some drama. I am a fan of Ms. Weir’s writing so I really wanted to read this book and wasn’t disappointed at all.
This is the third book in the Scions Series and is Emmy’s story.
I love Emmy! She has to be one of my fave heroines for sure. She’s sassy and strong but also unsure and questions herself which I could completely relate too.
Emmy and Griffin’s story was pure perfection and one I couldn’t get enough of. Gemma Weir hands down outdoes herself with every book she writes and this has to be my favourite so far! It’s safe to say I’m super excited to see what’s next!!
Omg. This has to be the best book ever written in this series. I totally love Emmy and Griff.
Two best friends and lines that should never be crossed. However, you can feel the tension between them throughout the story. I love how Griff becomes all caveman when other men come near. His macho stance made me laugh at times. Emmy though is also a force to be reckoned with when pushed. I love her fisty side when it comes out. It shows a side of her that wasn’t seen in Nova and Valentines story.
I loved how the group friends stay together in solidarity. Even when one wants to run. They will never let one of them fall.
I can’t wait for Zekes story and I will be badgering Gemma until it is given to me.
*4,5 stars*
I’m really enjoying this series and it’s also a spin-off from the Archer’s Creek series. This book is the story of Emmy & Griffin and focuses on their relationship. A friendship that has been going strong since childhood that started to blossom into something more but with so many troubles along the way. One thing I definitely loved was the bond between the characters and how Griffin and Emmy’s relationship was portrayed. A great read!
Emmy and Griffin have known each other since they were kids and have been best friends ever since. But with Emmy being the Prez’s daughter, Griffin will never cross the line ‘cuz their friendship means the world to him although he has developed deeper feelings for her over time. With them now going to college, Emmy wants to experience more in life and a life outside of the Sinner’s family. When trying to find her true identity, it seems she’s getting even more lost and the only anchor seems to be Griffin and their friends. But when she starts to date, there’s a change in Emmy and Griffin’s friendship that will change their future. But will Emmy see Griffin’s true feelings and will she finally be able to find her true identity along the way?…
The next instalment gives you Emmy and her story. For someone who wants to spread her wings and find who see believes she is.
But why run when your roots are so strong.
Griffin is her best friend but everyone can see the obvious but them
Loved this. Very frustrating as some points but not in a bad way just in a Emmy way.
The latest instalment in The Scions series.
This time we follow Emmy and her path as she tries to fight against what she’s always known and wants her own identity.
But the Archers kids have other ideas and Griffin makes it perfectly clear.
Complete story that’s an easy, quick read. Little drama or some usual pinnacle moment.
Teen characters are never going to be my favourite but you do forget they are so young. Although Emmy is so wrapped up in her own world at times that shows her age and lack of acknowledgement of her wider world.
Wow an incredible addition the Scions series. Nova and Valentine had me hooked from the 1st book and now we have Emmy and Griffins story also get to know Zeke more and what a treat this book is, absolutely loved it.
Emmy and Griffin have captured my heart. Their friendship, love and loyalty is felt through every chapter, the emotion seeps through this authors writing so beautifully, so vividly that im in awe.
Wonderful character’s that have captured my heart and will forever stay with me. Hope to read more of the Scions in the future.
