One touch is all it takes …Riley is in hiding. He always knew his curse would get him in trouble, and now it has driven him to a gloomy island, hours away from Seattle. At least he gets to keep his job in social work and sure, Walker County is a little isolated, and the wealthy recluses who live on the other side of the bay are odd, but he’s lucky just to still be alive….to know the truth.… alive.
…to know the truth.
Branson Walker left his pack family ten years ago along with his three cousins. At eighteen, their families demanded the four young men fight to the death to decide who would become the pack’s next leader. The cousins refused and have made a good life for themselves, despite the schemes concocted by their manipulative families constantly trying to drag them back. The four Walker men want nothing to do with pack life, its rules or the blind loyalty it requires.
When Branson meets Riley on a call, he realizes immediately there is something different about the human. After a first date that turns into a first morning, Branson knows he must face his family—if only to ensure Riley’s protection. But when something happens, something none of them could have possibly expected, he knows talking won’t keep Riley safe, he must claim his human, and with his cousins’ help, become the pack they were always meant to be.
Truth is a full-length 80k gay romance and the first book in the Wolves of Walker County with steam, humor, magic, and intrigue as well as a surprise pregnancy that will change everything. For maximum enjoyment, this quartet should be read in order.

I might be mistaken, but I believe this is the first book of this author’s work I have read. I enjoyed the story overall, though a few things threw me off a bit. This is a good start to what seems to be an interesting series, and the author doesn’t seem shy of changing typical trope details to reach an end goal. This is a cliffhanger, so the characters are still in development, although they have a good start. The back story is fairly weak at this point, but I am hoping more details will be revealed in the next book.
The “human” main character is a social worker named Riley with a truth serum touch. The author also created a secondary plot for this book to heighten Riley’s unique abilities. I almost would have preferred the secondary suspense be left out and more development of the main characters and storyline take place, but I understand why it was done the way it was. Riley is unique, both with his power of touch, and his heretofore unbeknownst abilities as well.
Branson and his cousins are in a unique position, and the main pack is not happy. However, they have made the decision to stand together and avoid the pack rather than meet its demands. But, when yet another conniving scheme of Branson’s mother’s brings the police and a social worker to their door, everything is about to change.
This story combines a few different tropes; divided pack, forgotten AO pasts, mpreg as a blessing, not a norm, and the beginning of changing power. It’s a lot to juggle, and with the added trope of lack of communication, things get a bit loose and less cohesive at times. But, aside from a couple of eyeroll moments or shaking my head, once I was able to get into the story, it was entertaining. I’ll be reading the next book to see how things go.
Happy reading!
Another really great shifter romance by Kiki Burrelli! I love paranormal romances and Ms. Burrelli is one of my go-to authors for the genre. Truth is an amazing start to a new series and the world-building was spot on, detailed, with a mysterious mythology and a society who’s lost its way.
Riley and Branson are wonderful three-dimensional main characters and I loved how they grew throughout the story. Even though Riley and Branson are drawn to each other from the beginning, and even with their being mates, their relationship never felt rushed to me, but built up nicely which made it easier for me to really get into the story and I feel everything was more intense because of it. I also really liked the setup with the four cousins and their heartbreaking background stories. Very good foundation for the stories to follow. Nana is awesome, loved her!
This is an awesome start to a another series by Kiki Burrelli and this time the author created an island for the Walker wolves as setting for their stories.
And while is an alpha/omega, fated mates romance, what I liked most was that I didn’t find the usual alpha posturing and omega mind set,nor the instant mate recognition that’s customary for this trope. Admittedly, things between Branson and Riley evolved rapidly, but what they initially felt was an insane attraction and they kinda grew into their alpha/omega dynamic. Sweet, hot and intriguing to witness, with ups and downs, secrets ,outside interferences and danger to overcome before they built a solid, enduring bond.
Another interesting part of the book is the lack of the traditional pack surrounding the main characters. As a matter of fact, Branson and his cousins left their original pack and they created a new life for themselves. I hated how much they still suffer because of their families. They’re all charming, endearing and they deserve so much happiness.
Riley and Branson may have created something beautiful together, but theirs and the other cousins’ future is full of uncertainties. Can’t wait to see what happens next in the series.
Fight, Flee or Shift? Branson is the unofficial lead of the Walker rebelled4. The cousins left their pack when they were given a task of fighting each other to see who was the strongest to become Alpha. They declined the opportunity and left. One cousin owns a bar, one is a fireman and two form a construction company. They are relatively happy and supportive of each other. They avoid pack and their parents as often as possible. Nana, their great grandmother supports them and is a slim cord to pack. Delia, Branson’s mother crosses a line creating a ‘situation’. Branson files a report and Riley, the new town social worker responds. Branson is drawn to Riley and pursues him. Riley, tries to avoid him because he has an unwanted inconvenient gift that attracted complications. Will Riley let his walls down? Does Riley find out about Branson’s wolf? Will Branson pursue Riley, knowing what’s at stake? Good story, excellent characters and supporting characters. Interesting plot twists. Quite enjoyable, good hook for rest of series. Well done!

Wow, Kiki has done it again. This was a great start to a new series. Branson is a wolf shifter, he left the island that his pack is from with his 3 cousin’s when their parents tried to get them to fight to the death to see who would become the next Walker Alpha, even his twin cousins Wyatt and Nash were meant to fight to the death. Riley had to leave Seattle quickly as his ex-boyfriend found out and tried to use him for his gift/curse which he’s had forever and then when he realised what was happening he confronted Blaine as him and his friends were beating up the guy that he used Riley to get the guys secret out of, he then threatened to k*ll Riley so he ran and changed his last name. Riley’s skin well mainly his hands make someone tell them their deepest darkest secrets when they touch you. Branson and Riley hit it off straight away and their relationship grows quickly but the way Kiki writes it feels like they’ve known each other for ages. I loved the connection between them and the twist on mpreg with a bit of magic involved. Nana Walker was awesome, even though she speaks in riddles half the time. It was cool to see Wyatt, Nash and Aver accept Riley as part of the family even after they found out about his gift. I hope the guys parents get what’s coming to them as they’re absolutely horrible people. I’m looking forward to the continuation of this series since this book was a cliff hanger. I’d definitely recommend this book, series and author to everyone.
I love this story! What a great twist on a shifter romance! All the love to all 4 of the alphas they the series is based on. They are beautiful men with loving, kind and loyal souls. How they all interact with each other is wonderful. How they accept Riley into the fold is just spectacular!
This story is not simple by any means but it will keep you invested from beginning to end!
Wolves and humans and blessed omegas, oh my!
What a wonderful start to as new series! I am I love with the characters and the world they inhabit. Kiki has created characters you want to care about; a vibrant world that comes more alive with each page. This book has it all: romance, danger, lots of family/ pack angst, a quirky Nana, an evil ex, loyal friends, a “curse”, steamy scenes, and unexpected mpreg. What’s not to love!
When circumstances force Branson Walker and his cousins Wyatt, Aver, and Nash out of their pack, they form their own. When Branson’s mother sends a vulnerable boy to try & lure him back to the pack, Brandon calls the cops. He doesn’t expect the social services agent, Riley, to be his mate…his omega. Riley fled to isolated Walker County after witnessing something he shouldn’t. He isn’t looking for a relationship. The attraction to Branson is as intense as it is inevitable. But Riley has secrets; his touch causes people to blurt out the truth, and his ex is trying to kill him. When Branson finds out, will he run or stay?
Amid all the intrigue, there is humor. The cousins will become embroiled in pack politics. Nana will save the day more than once. Come. Follow Branson & Riley on their road to HEA. It won’t be smooth, but Wyatt, Nash, & Aver will be there to help them over the bumps. You will love this book! I cannot wait for book 2.
This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.
As a huge fan of Kiki Burrelli, I was so happy when I received this book as an ARC. First book in this new series had all the elements that made any Ms Burrelli’s book so amazing: love, romance and hot scenes all included in an interesting plot, with intrigue and danger, and even a little surprise, all of it happening to wonderful characters that also happened to be shifters…. Riley and Branson’s story is just the beginning… I can’t wait for book 2!
