Once bitten, twice shy. Vanessa knows what aliens want—babies— and she’s not having it. She’ll change her name, change her ID chip, and hunker down on a miserable moon on the far side of the galaxy before she gets matched to an alien brute. Again. Jaxar knows that Vanessa is the one for him but he needs time to convince her. With the clock ticking, he’ll do anything to claim her reluctant heart. … clock ticking, he’ll do anything to claim her reluctant heart.
Even steal her.

If you’re expecting a run-of-the-mill alien bride story then you’ll be disappointed! Jaxar is a page turner with excellent world building, tense romance and humour that made me spit out my tea at times. As a result of reading Jaxar, I made a big batch of cinnamon buns (you’ll know why after you’ve read the book). Highly recommended!
Jaxar wants what all his fellow Mahdfel warriors have – a mate. When he meets Vanessa, he knows she is his fated mate but the situation is complex. Vanessa was divorced from her previous Mahdfel mate and doesn’t want anything to do with them or to become a baby factory and, in fact, she can’t have children. She fights her attraction to Jaxar and his working so much when she was first ordered to go to his ship for a project makes it challenging for her to know how to feel. The characters are well developed and you get the feel of them as they come together.
Loved this series!!!
Good storyline.
I just love hot, colorful aliens. This book did not disappoint at all.
This story was very good. The heroine was the grumpy one, yet likable. To see her get a happy ending was wonderful, because she deserved it. She had been knocked down in her past so much by circumstances she couldn’t control. She should have been more bitter, but was just resigned and complicated. The primary reason for her reluctance to be in a relationship was handled extremely well, as it’s a complicated issue. The surprise of the ex not being entirely the bad guy she had thought was well done, and a nice change from the normal all evil Lillian as well. Made for a more emotionally rewarding story, and more relatable one.
Great read
Another hot SFR recommendation.
The book gets off to sort of a slow start but once Vanessa and Jaxar meet, it moves along at a good pace. This sweetly charming alien romance has interesting characters and a heartwarming, smile inducing story. Let down by people who were supposed to care for her, feisty Vanessa is attracted to Jaxar but has no intention of mating with him. Jaxar had almost resigned himself to never finding his mate but he knows she is the one the moment he sees her and will do anything to convince her they belong together. I loved Vanessa and there is something so endearing about Jaxar I couldn’t help but love him too. It’s a great story and very enjoyable. 4.5 stars.
I am voluntarily reviewing an advance reader copy of this book.
Van and Jaxar break through the barriers
I loved this story. Jaxar isn’t a young warrior, and he’s a bit melancholy as his adopted Sangrin family members grow older while he, a Sangrin Mahdfel, continues in his prime. He’s withdrawn and self-protective. Van, short for Vanessa, is still young, but her short stint as a Rolusdreus Mahdfel mate has made her world-weary, and wary. She wants nothing to do with Mahdfel or men, knowing that mating is about bearing children, and that a pregnancy will kill her. A depressed alien and an angry woman – how’s that ever gonna work? Read Nancey Cummings surprisingly touching, tender, and steamy story and learn how love can flourish even in the most guarded hearts.
I really liked this story. I loved the fact that Van was not interested in getting married again and thought the reason why was handled very well and did not distract form the story. They were great characters and this made for some funny scenes. Others from the series popped in and put where they did the most to entertain me. Just a fun story that I had to read in one sitting to see how it would end and how they would end up together (as you know there is a happy ending somehow). A good addiction to the series with some sexy scenes too.
Great world building and a feisty heroine
4.5stars
Author Nancey Cummings has outdone herself in building her fantasy outer space backdrop for this romantic action adventure about suffers-no-fools Van(essa) and Mahdfel engineer Jaxar. Although the technical aspects sometimes went over my head, I really appreciate the detail of her vision of the moon base and spaceships particularly. She used alot of humor, particularly around Jaxar and his attempts to win over Van, and made their adventure both dramatic and playful at times.
Yes, there is steam but it’s judiciously used and not the be all and end all of the story; that’s a plus in my book. Who says fond touches and cuddling are not romantic enough in the building of a relationship?!
Van is a fully fleshed out, complex and driven Earth women who’s had mostly knocks in her life, including a badly failed pregnancy, and wants some control over her future. Despite his recognition of her as his forever mate, Jaxar is a brawny, sensitive softie when it comes to going along with whatever Van needs. I loved his eagerness to please mixed with his protective instincts and his constant efforts to woo her with food!
The afterward of this book is revealing and touching. If you get the chance to read the book, don’t skip it.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
What a enjoyable and entertaining read plus I’m a total sucker for second chance at love story. Plenty of intrigue, action, and of course steamy romance to keep you hook from beginning to end. I especially liked the chemistry between Van and Jaxar. Overall a great read looking forward to seeing what else is in store for this series.
This book, is entertaining, action packed and thoroughly enjoyable. The chemistry between the characters of Vanessa (Van) and Jaxar is wonderful. I can’t wait for more from this author. I received this book as a FREE ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
Second chance at love and happiness. Vanessa had already been forced to be a bride to an alien and it didn’t go well. Her pregnancy damaged her heart, her child died and her health was compromised for the rest of her life. If she becomes pregnant again she will die. Her alien husband Havek divorced her and sent her back to Earth. Two years later she is finally getting her dream, an education in botony and never having to be a forced bride again because she is “damaged”. But a recruiter comes to her door threatening to send her as a bride to another alien, so she escapes to an alien Moon and changes her name to Van.For a year she lives on the moon and has a crappy job but it is better than being forced to become pregnant again and die. But when the moon is attacked and the Mahdfel save them, she meets Jaxar who recognizes she is his mate and wants her whether she can give him a child or not. But Vanessa is wary and doesn’t believe him so she rejects him. But true love will not be dismissed and he will find a way to make her his mate. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
