Lady Edith Balfour has not eloped with her dearest friend, Lord Rotherham. But persuading him, her family, and her own heart to believe that is proving unexpectedly difficult… gentleman.
The only person who truly understand her dreams is Lord Rotherham, her closest friend and confidant. Nathaniel would be everything Edith needed, if only his own dreams were not so firmly rooted in England. As it is, Edith wouldn’t risk losing his friendship for anything – no matter what wonderful feelings he stirs inside her.
Nathaniel Townsend, the young Viscount Rotherham, has striven for years to escape from his guardian’s restrictive influence. Ambitious and determined, he means to become a powerful force in the House of Lords. Edith’s friendship is the only thing that has ever soothed his frustrated soul. He knows that one day she’ll break free of London society – and he dreads to think how much he’ll miss her.
When a family emergency forces Edith to travel north alone, Nathaniel defies his guardian to accompany her. It’s an adventure that could cost him dearly, but he is determined to declare his independence at last. Besides, he has never been able to say no to Edith’s sparkling eyes or dimpled smile.
It’s not an elopement. It’s simply two good friends enjoying an adventure together. And, perhaps, indulging in one or two dangerously delicious kisses…
This is the third book in the series The Impossible Balfours. You do not have to read the other books to enjoy this one, but there are some connections between the books which will reward readers of the whole series.

Definitely worth the time to read it. Great character development. Hard to stop reading once I started.

Who needs diamond when you have Nathaniel Townsend, Viscount Rotherham? Certainly not Lady Edith Balfour, his best friend and potentially so much more. Yes, he will accompany her on her latest bit of an adventure. No they’re not at all eloping. They’re of two minds on what direction they want their lives to go in. No chance of romance. Really. Honest. What, I doth protest too much? Ok, maybe there is (more than) a chance of a fantastic romance in Gemma Blackwood’s A Viscount is a Girl’s Best Friend (The Impossible Balfours, Book 3). You’ll need to read the book to find out. Trust me that it’s definitely worth doing.
A Viscount is a Girl’s Best Friend
A good read with characters that bring you into their world with ease and keep you there with them until the end

Lady Edith longed for a grand adventure traveling all over the world and she had wild one traveling to her aunt’s house to care for her ill sister in the company of her best friend Nathaniel, Viscount Rotherham, who just couldn’t let her ride on a public stage with brawling ruffians. Along the way, they discover that if they’d only compromise they could discover a happy life together somewhere in the middle between his duty towards his title and his tenants and her longing for adventure. I loved that Edith wanted to travel. I could sympathize with her clumsiness as I can be too. Nathaniel made some bad choices, but he shows that people can change and best friends can make the best loves.
A simply wonderful romance.
Edith and Nathaniel are in a bit of pickle will this adventure perhaps bring something more to them both? I love how the author has written Edith as a bit accident-prone and Nathaniel a bit immature. This made the characters so real. It was also grand how both of them started to change and to grow. I love it when friends find that they are more than just friends. It was a lovely romance that put a smile on my face and joy in my heart. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Sweet, clean romance. Kissing, but no sex, no language. Gemma Blackwood writes heartwarming stories with just a touch of intrigue. Her characters have depth and grow along with the story, willing to recognize the flaws in their own character and make necessary changes to improve. The story is well-written and a few twists keep the plot from being completely expected. I have enjoyed this series very much, and I look forward to the next installment.

What wonderful characters. They are so real you fall in love with them. The story too could take place in any time. It is so relatable. Gemma has done a great job putting the words to paper to create this entertaining, fun loving story of two friends. You won’t want to miss it!
Book three in The Impossible Balfours series a well written story with a very good storyline and the story flowed smoothly from page to page. This is Lady Edith Balfour and Nathaniel Townsend, the young Viscount Rotherham’s story. There is suspense, drama, villains, coercion, and romance. I want to read the next book. The third installment of the Balfour siblings stories centers around the youngest, Edith. For soon reason this book was very slow to keep my attention. Gemma Blackwood is one of my favourite authors and I love the Balfour siblings. However, this book did not hold my attention well as the first two. While all fiction is imaginary there must be some grounding in reality. I found the journey of Edith and Nathaniel beyond the bounds of credulity. While the last part of the book went a long way to redeem the story it was still too far from realistic for me. I still look forward to the remaining books to complete the series as I loved the first two.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story! To be able to read each word without needing to skip over a bunch of raunchy details was awesome! I am a firm believer that a couple’s private moments should remain private to them. It was a pleasure to read a romantic and clean love story that really shows love as it should be. I am looking forward to reading the whole series and whatever may come next from this author.

Third book in The Impossible Balfours series was a very good read. This book is about Lady Edith Balfour, one of the younger Balfour sisters. Lady Edith is charming, witty, accident prone and has dreams that only her best friend, Lord Nathaniel Townsend, Viscount Rotherham, understands. Edith wants to travel the world and have remarkable adventures, not settle down with a suitable gentleman. When her sister Isobel falls ill while traveling with their Aunt Ursula, Edith goes to help their dear Aunt take care of Isobel.
Nathaniel has always considered Edith as his best friend. He understands Edith’s desire for adventure and knows that once she achieves her goal he will miss her. When he learns of Edith’s trip to be at her sister’s side, he decides to defy his uncle and see to her safety on her journey. As the two travel to Isobel’s side, they share secrets, and a few tantalizing kisses. Nathaniel realizes he has crossed the friendship boundary and has fallen in love with Edith, but he can’t interfere with Edith’s dream. Can Nathaniel come up with the perfect plan to gain Edith’s hand that will also give her the adventure’s she desires? With the help of his Uncle, he just might.
Although this is part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone. There are no overly sexual scenes and there is a happily ever after.

I absolutely loved this book! Edith was such a fun heroine and Nathaniel was a great fit for her. Watching them grow throughout the story was a delight. I really enjoyed the storyline and the flow of the story. It was well written and an easy read. Like the other books in the series it was a totally clean read, something I appreciate in a romance.

A very good book. At times I had trouble putting it down. Lady Edith and Lord Rotherham know they are good friends, but because they want very different things in life, they do not see a path to marriage. Together they make a scandalous trip that has them each evaluating what is most important, and what they would give up in order to have a life together. It leads to arguments that are hard to get past, with hurtful words spoken that cannot be taken back. Will they ever find a Happily Ever After together, or will they have to part in order to find true happiness?

Edith Balfour knows she is clumsy and accident prone, so naturally she finds it difficult to see herself as a graceful, refined lady. Nathaniel has been Edith’s close friend for a number of years, but finds himself yearning for more from their relationship. Both recognize that their relationship is changing as they mature. The mishaps encountered on a shared journey forces each of them to do some soul-searching and see both themselves and others in a clearer light. It is a compelling story with engaging characters—well worth reading.

I have enjoyed the Impossible Balfours series very much as the Balfour siblings are impossible not to like. This third installment is Edith’s story and she is possibly the most impossible of the sisters. Her best friend is a man, which flies in the face of Regency convention. That man is Nathaniel, whose behavior was a bit eyebrow-raising in book two and but for a timely save by his future brother-in-law, he would have gotten himself into quite the pickle. Edith and Nathaniel take an ill-advised trip together and get into their own pickle through a series of bad luck and poor decisions. Feelings change, worry over losing best friend status grows and without some growing up and good advice from their families, Edith and Nathaniel would never gotten out of their own way to realize they are in love.
Book 3 is a bit different than the first two. I kept waiting to be intrigued by a secret because secrets drove the storylines in the previous books. I started out missing the secret premise but as the story drew to its conclusion I missed it less. Our hero and heroine are young and learning and maturing drive the story. Both stubbornly hang on to their dreams, thinking they couldn’t be the partner the other needed to reach those dreams.
I loved both Edith and Nathaniel. They are well written protagonists helped by getting to know them in the previous books. Edith is sweetly clumsy and Nathaniel sweetly picks her up both literally and figuratively every time. The HEA is made wonderful by Nathaniel’s proposal which is just about as perfect and creative as it gets, with Edith’s help of course. The secondary characters are equally strong. The reader also learns what’s going on with Edith’s newly married siblings. Elder sister Selina continues to be mysterious as none of her siblings seem to know why their seemingly perfect elder sister is insistently single.
I highly recommend this book. I also recommend starting at the beginning of the series. This book will be even more enjoyable because you will have already met Edith and Nathaniel.

Friends to lovers romance. Edith has always dreamed of traveling and having adventures. Her best friend, Nathaniel the Viscount Rotherham, has always been there for her, and when she has to travel several days to help her sick sister, he accompanies her. But a carriage accident forces them to stay together at an inn under an assumed name as husband and wife. While sharing a room they discover that they have feelings for each other more than just best friends. But Nathaniel doesn’t think Edith would be happy as a Viscountess as she wants to travel, and Edith doesn’t think she would make a good wife for Nathaniel, so they deny their attraction, even though all of their relatives have always suspected the two loved each other and didn’t know it. Now how to get them together? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A very enjoyable read where two longtime friends, Edith and Nathaniel, fall in love.
She is clumsy and a bit accident prone as a result and he watches and wishes he could have more of a relationship with her.
They land up in a rather amusing situation and that is when their troubles really begin.
Both are lovely, endearing and passionate characters and he seems to be the more serious of the two but I loved them both!
I am enjoying this series very much and look forward to the next story.
