“We’ll celebrate today. The day we decided to make forever official. The day we decided that nothing matters more in this world than each other. The day we went in one hundred-one hundred.”
“Because fifty-fifty is for losers,”
I am all for second-chance stories, but I am particular to some of them, which is to say the ones featuring the one who got away. Those always get to me.
This wasn’t the case here. Jayson and Gia have already been married, and it didn’t work out, so I’d usually not touch this story. I mean, once you get a divorce, it’s more or less said and done that your relationship is irredeemable, so it’s not appealing to me.
However… Jessica Lemmon’s writing always draws me in. This was the last book of this series and it has been sitting on my Kindle for a while. I needed this, and the easy smiles that came with it.
“Marriage is about admitting you need someone else. It’s about being someone’s other half.”
I really like both main characters, and that they’re so different from each other – it’s one of those cases where they’re both right, and you just root for them together, because you can’t choose between them. Jay is middle class, having grown up in a violent household and having been brought up later only by his mom. Gia is part of the Knox family, having grown up with two brothers and with a lot of money.
“I told you that night I’d be better off without you.” She winced.
“No, you didn’t. You said we’d be better off apart. Where we couldn’t hurt each other any longer. That was my opportunity to promise you I wouldn’t hurt you again. Instead, I refused to back down.”
Let’s say Jay had to grow up by himself, without having been protected from life. Gia, on the other hand, had a lot of help growing up, and was too protected. Consequently, Jay expresses his love by protecting those he loves, and Gia runs away from being protected at all costs and wants to be her own, independent woman.
The consequence of this? Yep, you got it. Divorce.
“It seemed no matter where she looked she couldn’t escape memories of them together. How was she supposed to make a life on her own for herself when she couldn’t leave them behind?”
Bear in mind this is not a lack of love issue – they’re clearly in love with each other. It’s not a sexual thing, since these two can light up a couple of rooms with their sexual chemistry. It’s also not a communication problem – they communicate. They just don’t know how to do it in a way that shows how much they love each other, and how vulnerable they really are behind what they’re showcasing to the world.
“Sometimes finding what doesn’t work can be just as important as what does.”
They’ve remained friends and co-workers at the same company. Jayson is still part of the family, and goes to family functions. And it’s in one of those that they end up making out, and it’s in another one of those that things progress even further. Because, to be honest, these two are clearly meant for each other.
“He’d learned he didn’t have to prove his worth to her. She’d learned that him taking care of her was how he showed love.”
They get their happily ever after once they realize what really matters. That they’re clearly not over each other, what really went wrong, and how they can fix it together, without losing who they are in the process. Meeting each other halfway, without compromising on anything, especially on what they feel for each other.
I needed a sweet, easy read in my life this week. So glad I picked this.
This is a second chance romance storyline involving Gia Knox-Cooper and her ex-husband Jayson Cooper. They are divorced but still have a friendly relationship with each other while working together in the same IT department for Gia’s family Technology Company. There is a glitch in a program and they have to find a fix for the problem.
When Gia and Jayson attends a family wedding the sparks between them ignites which leads to a romantic interlude. Now old feelings, wants and needs arise for the divorced couple but because both are afraid to let each other know how they really feel Gia tries to keep Jayson at bay, while Jayson will do anything to love, protect and keep Gia close to him.
The take away for me is that when there is no communication in a relationship and/or marriage it is easy to feel that a person doesn’t care about your wants and needs, thinking it is one thing about that person but it is not,. A lot of unnecessary hurt and pain could have been avoided. Also the way we are raised by our parents can be a reason to cause you to behave in certain ways, such as no love from a parent, emotional and physical abuse.
This is my first time reading a book by this author and I look forward to reading more books by Jessica Lemmon. I definitely want to read the other 2 books in this Kiss and Tell series
I highly recommend this book to read which will hold your attention from the beginning of the storyline until the end, especially if you love second chance romances, steamy romance and HEA.
I received a ARC from NetGalley and this review is of my own honest opinion.

Ooh this was a fun and delicious read! I haven’t read the other books in the series, but I didn’t feel lost. Also, I look forward to going back and reading those missed books! I was very quickly lost in Gia and Jayson’s story. They were really good together, until they weren’t. Communication was lost between them, but even after the divorce, they weren’t out of each others lives. I enjoyed the pull and the banter between them. And while they said one thing, they still loved each other. Everyone could see it, but them! I loved watching this couple reconnect and try not to fall in love again but Jessica made them work for it! I couldn’t put this book down and I can’t recommend it enough
“One Last Kiss” is book 3 of Jessica Lemmon’s Kiss and Tell series and features exes Jayson Cooper and Gia Knox-Cooper.
These two may be divorced, but attraction and passion still runs hot between them. But if they want their second chance at forever, they will have to look deep within themselves to figure out why they didn’t make it the first time.
Ms. Lemmon gives us a hot read with flashback scenes to give us the complete story of Jay and Gia.
